Anyone remember when there was like a hundred screenshots leaked by some magazine or something and it looked awful?
I recall screenshots that were still pretty damn decent for an off-build with low graphical settings.
I sure hope this isn't 999X's Duke Nukem...
I wouldn't mind if they sold it for a cheap price on steam, but only if the game is Valve quality (no game breaking bugs or problems for a singleplayer game)
I semi-agree, I wan't it featured on steam as a downloadable mod to increase popularity, and also featured on the front page.
After reading that interview they did with RPS some time ago, I really want to believe they learned their lesson about hyping before they were ready and aren't going to make the same mistake twice. But, at the same time, I'm not going to get my hopes up.
Remember when they said they release in 2009? Yeah me too... you are right tho we can expect a few more pictures next year

Gonna need a link to that claim.
Let's see. The projectleader talked in an interview about the biggest mistake they have ever did, building hype and then disappoint all.
He said, that they will never repeat that ever again (building hype), until they are completely sure, that they can deliver something (the mod).
The screens were released as the first part to build hype, for the possible release.
Wow! The first news in YEARS!
Wrong. Did you miss the large interview with the project leader, last month? What's with the previews of Atomic Punch and the PCPowerplay last year?
Moreover, the devs were pretty active in the forums and answered many questions.
My theory is they are waiting for HL3 to be annouced and they will release it around that time frame so people download Black Mesa to play through the story again then Hl3.
No. They just want to get this game done but also having it how they want it to be.
Or they are just waiting for valve to hire them all and make the game paid
The majority of them doesn#t want a job in the gaming industry,
the others already have a job in the gaming industry and the rest have left the project and do something different.
Gman looks cheaply placed in that first screenshot
Uh, he was there in the original, and I think they want to keep the old Gman sigthings
Gman looks cheaply placed in that first screenshot
You're just jealous, you aren't even in the screenshot
I just realized!
So many people are worried about Half Life 3/Episode 3 becoming the next Duke Nukem: Forever, but it won't be, because THIS will be the next DNF.
But in all honesty I don't want this OR hl3 to suck. And I can totally see this being bundled with HL3. It's just something Valve would do.
Gman looks cheaply placed in that first screenshot
Tell that to Valve, for placing him in there in the HL.
I forgot what it's called but the beeman looks really great.
Looks fun. I don't really care how long it took, as long as it's an enjoyable game.

Why would they bundle a free mod with a paid game?
Why would they bundle a free mod with a paid game?
Well, Portal 1 was originally a mod (right?), as was Counter Strike before 1.6 and source.
I can totally see some sort of Orange Box 2 or something that has Black Mesa: Source with it.
Plus I think this is the only rational (and I mean truly rational. Black Mesa shouldn't be taking this long to make) explanation for the amount of time Black Mesa is taking to be made.

I never expected HL3 to be the next DNF. I expect this much more, but then again, this is HL1 in the Source engine with a few tweaks. I don't quite see it as being DNF either.

I guess, you didn't read this interview, why it's taking so long...

Portal wasn't a mod. Narbacular Drop was the game before Portal came.

am I the only one that doesn't get the hype over this
Lots if baked lightmaps!
Those shadows are clearly coming from the orange light emitted by the chamber, and they're fuzzy around the edges like Source 2007 shadows/projected textures are.

A couple years I bet my friend that "Duke Nukem Forever" would come out before this mod.

twice?
So it lives!
Hey look, it's combine soldier animations and the bugbait dance.
Black Mesa will be badly overengineered.
By that I mean there will be too much effort put into smaller details that won't make a difference, essentially focusing on it being HD rather than bringing the old HL gameplay to life. Hopefully I'll be wrong, but...
A slightly unrelated thing: Ever noticed how the looks of used and scratched objects are much more obviously artificial in game mods when compared to actual games? It's almost always noticeable in every mod. I don't mean the objects themselves, but the fake wear that they try to imitate. Even if mod textures are better, more accurate and more detailed on their own, the fake scratches always make them look less impressive (and usually more plastic).
You can't really get excited for any ground breaking gameplay or exciting plot lines, because at the end of the day, this is just HL1 with different graphics.
Which will release first, HL3 or Black Mesa?
It's really a toss up at this point.

Its closer to HL2 then HL1 with gameplay.
They've also added new areas, layouts of some places have been changed, different AI etc.
So I wouldn't call it HL1 with just different graphics.
Check out these two posts to see what I mean regards to maps being different

I'd say Black Mesa first based on these recent events.
