The whole performance issue thing seems to be a lie unless it's one of those hidden game breaking bugs that blows up your computer once your save hits the 10 hours mark or some shit.

backpedalling at its finest
Ubisoft need to stop trying to address problems that come up with their games. First the whole thing about no female assassins. If they didn't make up some bullshit reason, people would of dropped it. Now they defending themselves again? Silly billys
You know what? I'm just happy they're not suing the guy, like some game devs do when people mod their games. Also, they haven't stripped these settings out with a patch yet, so they're not really playing the bad guy here. They're more or less just saying "Use this at your own risk, we don't cover it if something goes wrong." They're trying to distance themselves from it, which is reasonable.
Mmhm, nice damage control Ubi.
In fact, a lot of people got better performance WITH it.
I'm fairly certain I heard the enhanced performance is because the patch that enabled the E3 settings came with a bunch of optimizations and tweaks alongside it. (why, pray tell, those couldn't come with the game from the start is its own mystery)
While there's probably a decent reason behind not enabling certain features for the final release, they should just flat out say the shit as opposed to saying stuff like this. It's better to say a truth people wont like then to lie and have it found out, its just not worth the rep damage to lie
to difficulty in reading the environment in order to appreciate the gameplay
This came to mind when I saw the mod. It seems realistically darker in many places, which looks good for a teaser and it explains why they took it out.

I'm honestly a bit surprised they haven't pushed an update to delete those files and keep the modders out.
