Grand Theft Auto 5 lets you play both good guy and bad guy

Well Niko Bellic and Johnny Klebitz didn't have the "good-guy look" either they looked plenty bad-guy to me, (and were somewhat bad-guy, depends on perspective) yet they were both protagonists while Luis Lopez was just like the guy in the middle here looking pretty neutral so don't stamp anyone antagonist because of looks.
I bet the villain is gonna be Cole Phelps
no one would see it coming
also this is weird but I kind of want to see if there will be any LA Noire or Max Payne shoutouts in GTA5
There wouldn't be anything direct as both games exist in a completely different universe but i guess there could be nods to them, subtle of course. Like Elburro appearing on a wall in GTA IV as grafitti.
I don't wanna say, but the guy on the right was already seen robbing a bank in the first trailer, and we know that he's supposed to be a bank robber that now works for the cops.
So if anything he's gonna be the "good" guy.

Would have been fun if some guy told max payne that there's even worse cities than new york to be a cop in.

As said, they are all bank robbers. Micheal, the guy on the right, is under FIB protection after retiring and ratting out his friends. He's incredibly bored though with his new life and starts robbing banks/ doing heists with his past partner, Trevor (guy on left), i can only guess they recruit Franklin (middle) to help.
Have a list of all the new things from this morning's articles:
The World:
- Whole map will be open from the start, -except for some protected areas.-
- The map is considered to be THREE times as large as RDR's (on land), and FIVE times as large including the sea
- The dynamic world of Red Dead Redemption was the starting point to create a living world in GTA V
- "Our goal is to surpass RDR", said Dan Houser.-
- "there is even a functioning ecosystem teeming with wildlife."
- Improvements to the RAGE and Euphoria engine, such as draw distance and no notice of any popping in the scenery - Rockstar feels more confident in bringing out it's full, refined potential, and belives for it be the best iteration of the engine
- Underwater world (and underwater caves) and diving equipment
- Alamo Sea is the name of the Salton Sea-based area
- Prisons and canyons
The Characters:
- About the three protagonists' skills: Trevor will be the skilled helicopter pilot, Franklin the skilled driver and sniper, Michael the "smooth operator", skilled and versatile.
- The idea about creating Michael came from the question: "What would a typical GTA protagonist (that would typically aged around 25-35 years) ask after he's retired, and in his mid 40's?".... "Where's the action?"
- Michael is depressed that he is no longer in the crime world.
- Franklin is young, and motivated to join the big league instead of dealing with petty crime.
- Franklin is looking for a mentor, and finds one in Mike after they meet during one of Franklin's repoman jobs.
- Franklin's repoman jobs are a part of his exclusive off-missions, in which he works for an Armenian loan shark. "Semi-legal".
- Trevor is an ex-military pilot.
- Trevor is made from the inspiration of the typical GTA player that only roams around the game creating havoc, death and destruction.
- Lip-sync to animations, but however NOT using the same technology (MotionScan) that was used in L.A. Noire.
- Characters from the IV-saga will return, but will not include huge characters like Niko Bellic -- the preview (Meristation.com's) interpretation for this is that the cameo wouldn't be a murderous character, but the Game Informer article states, "Houser confirmed that -some- familar face-s- from Grand Theft Auto IV and Episodes From Liberty City -may- resurface in Los Santos -- for anyone who's completed The Ballad of Gay Tony will probably have a good idea on who will be returning based on endgame and post-game
The Story:
- The storyline is said to take 25 hours to complete
- The satire of the American society will include things like Hollywood, the porn industry, weed smuggling, homeless people, a bankrupt government, etc.
- According to Houser, missions types will vary among -"big and small events, explosive, infiltration, super spectacular, family issues, invasion, hostage recovery, heists and robberies. Plus classic GTA missions but updated and improved."-
- Missions will be more varied in objectives unlike previous GTAs.
- There will be a string of robberies, and not just banks.
- All three characters are motivated to rob for money, not 'for the fun of it'.
- The story's only goal is not a great finale reached by a linear storyline. Most of the missions are to prepare you to pass through some crucial twists in the storyline.
- There are 6 of these crucial moments that are played in 6 high quality missions.
- There will be multiple finales that will depend on what you've did previously in the game.
Gameplay:
- NO co-op for singleplayer missions, but multiplayer will have its own set of co-op missions, is a huge part of the game, and will be developed by a different team.
- About the economy, Houser says: "you will be able to spend money to buy interesting and fun things… expensive toys. We are still working on the economy, but it will be a strong element in the game and players will be eager to make money to spend money. Something along the lines of — 'I went through all of this to make all this money and now I'm going to spend it on this crazy item.'"
- Biggest selection of vehicles in any GTA game.
- Radio will be dynamic, in the sense that it will tell the weather and news as it comes.
- Dynamic music in missions, and when you're not in a vehicle.
- Houser said that missions similar to Taxi, Ambulance and Vigilante will be back, BUT "probably not identical to the ones in previous GTAs as they wouldn't fit in the 3 protagonists personalities, but the 3 protagonists will have odd jobs to do".
- Cover mechanics have been greatly improved and will be very important.
- Protagonists that are living their normal lives when not on a mission can be found USING the Toilet, amongst various other recreative things.
- The zoom-out/zoom-in effect when changing protagonist only happens during free-roaming.
- You can switch protags off-mission and eavesdrop the other protag without necessarily taking control. You can use the information you hear when eavesdropping to your advantage for when you do have control.
- A circular menu with the faces of the three characters is displayed.
- Example mission is rescuing an informant from the IAA to be taken to the FIB.
- This mission does not give forced-switch. Trevor will autopilot while Michael enjoys the view from the chopper if you switch. You have the option to climb the boring ladder for Franklin to get a good vantage point for the Sniper.
- There will be some times where the player will be forced to switch protags, but suggests that this is only for some missions where a specific skill set is required to complete the mission.
- New Heli controls.
- Controls for rappeling may be an ongoing ability, not just a cut-scene for this mission
- A female officer is heard threatening to sodomize a prisoner during an interrogation
- Franklin is ready to go with sniper, possibly pre-aimed and just have to fire the trigger. Michael (under AI) dies if Franklin does not take out two guards with the sniper.
- Transition is quick - takes us back to the same moment in which we press the Switch button, but under the eyes and the situation in which the character is we have chosen to control.
- You can go Rambo and complete entire missions are one protag even though there are others in on the same mission.
So it sounds like you don't really pick your character (like news implies) but more or less you swap between the characters as you play (at will on free roaming), and your missions will generally involve the main characters you can swap between. Certain missions will force you to play a main character though.
Pretty sure Shacknews misinterpreted. I dont think anyones the main bad guy just that as you play you see that michael has more of a moral compass than trevor, whos a bit crazy.

that basically confirms Packie will be coming back, since at the end of Gay Tony you see him getting on a plane, and I think he talks about going to Los Santos at some point

Which is great because not only was Packie probably my favourite character, but his missions were great too.
So nobody from San Andreas confirmed to be in V?
So nobody from San Andreas confirmed to be in V?
Nobody from before IV.

Can someone enlighten me with a video? I don't remember that.

Wow... I didnt expect there to be satire of the American society at all. Especially about Porn, weed and hollywood.
I think it'll all depend on the perspective.
