I can't believe they managed to clutter it up even more. Just think, without the ad agenda they could literally fit the entire necessary UI on one hub screen instead of making me scroll through a bunch of shit just to get to the submenus upon submenus of shit within each section. I'm continually perplexed as to how people can justify paying for XBL.
wow drop $60 a year to get adverts in your menus
I think the thing I find most baffling about the dashboard now is how the game you're trying to play has effectively been pushed off to the side, as though it's unimportant.
The minute they return it to

I'll buy a 360 again.
lol why? stop doing this, the ui is a fucking mess

I don't know about this UI, but the NXE was great, they should let people switch back to that.

The blades UI was the best UI, every UI after that was subpar in comparison.
lol i just push the home button and navigate using the blades menu there, its just like the old days only it uses just 1/4 of your screen

except the fact that it had gigantic menus where you barely find stuff you want on the marketplace, it was slow as shit to find anything you wanted to do, had a terrible graphical design, etc.
i like Post NXE stuff with it's minimalism. You can easily get rid of the ads by editing a hosts file on your router.
Eh, I liked it as it is. I don't really care what UI I'm using either, I just want to play the games.
I love the new UI
I pretty much never play my xbox anymore because I've been around all the interesting games that are exclusive to that support. I used to have the console because of my PC's lack of power but now I can just run any recent game fine so I don't care at all.
Also my xbox live gold subscription has been off for about two months and it took me about 20 days to even notice it.
the new ui is the best. I've been in the beta for awhile. Navigation is easy and it looks great.

I could not agree more. Absolutely boggles my mind as to how it just keeps getting worse. There's honestly always been something wrong with every iteration of the menu, in my opinion, but NXE was probably the best one.

If 'minimalism' to you means 'minimizing the space that actual content takes up', then sure. But as far as I'm concerned, the dashboard (not counting this new update since I haven't tried it yet) currently uses 75% of its menu space for pure ads.

The blockable ads that you're talking about are the ones in the lower right corner. Even if you block them, it just leaves a big ugly space there. The other stuff I marked in red, I consider to be ads. This is the main menu of the console - you'd think it would be used for actual content that I own. Instead, it's a bunch of scrolling panels telling me about other games and videos that I should buy. These are ads.
Look at what the main NXE menu looked like:

First panel is a nice, big panel to show the game you have in the disc tray, and every other panel in this category links to either account settings or other content that you actually own. I don't see any ads here. You can go view ads in the other categories, but in this main category, it only shows the content that you own and most likely turned on the console to go use. Accessing the shop should be a secondary function of a game console with lower menu priority, not a primary one.
And what really pisses me off is that, after raising the price for XBL, paying subscribers are still served ads. In almost every other digital subscription service I've been a part of, ad removal was a basic perk. Ads are there to generate revenue from users who don't pay. So they get my money and then try to generate even more money from me in every way possible, from ad revenue or enticing me to buy more things. It's absurd, especially for a game console.
Lmao That's why it's got the adbox 360 nickname; They're fucking ridiculous with their ads. Why can't the community demand a cleaner UI.
Well, I bet this is intentional, so that you have to scroll through every panel and look at those stupid advertisement.
Most of the time I see the ad spots showing off new Xbox features instead of ads, which is pretty neat.
The ads I typically get are for games anyway. It's neat.
Wasn't one of the features of Gold having no ads on your dashboard?
