Halo movie canned due to Microsoft's aggressive profit demands

Movies based on videogames are always bad. May i remind you of Super Mario bros the movie, Hitman, Lara croft Tomb Raider, Doom and Final Fantasy? Those movies have plot that are nowhere related to the videogames. It is best that halo doesn't have a movie.

That logic sucks. Peter Jackson and Neil Blomkamp would've made a fantastic film. Why does it matter what the genre (I'm calling video game movies a genre for this) is? Genre doesn't define how good a movie can be. The people making it do.

Pretty sure none of them had Peter Jackson producing them, or a company as big as Microsoft helping out

"There were bad movies based off of video games in the past, all of them suck."
Hmm, I don't recall Peter Jackson and Neil Blomkamp making any of those, and the fact that Microsoft was funding the project.
Even Microsoft should have realised that they were wanting too much. They went ballistic with this one. Idiots.
This is so typical of Microsoft, it's like they still think they are the #1 richest country in the world (they have been that for a while now)

Video game movies aren't bad because they're based on video games. They're bad because they're abused as a quick way to make a buck by tapping in to an established idea with an established audience and as a result lazily and poorly made.

And every single one of those used some fucked up mix n' match method where they picked out bits they liked essentially throwing the entire story in the garbage.
Oh fucking hell :C

I don't even know how the fuck you could possibly make a Super Mario Bros movie. The Doom movie COULD have been amazing but nope. If Halo had a movie Microsoft would have made hella money from all of the fanboys of Halo, including me.
I would have liked a movie as long as it didnt revolve entirely around Master Chief, some other characters deserve the lime light.

They could have made a movie about the ODSTs, maybe have Nathan Fillion reprise his role as Buck in a live-action setting?
Don't know why everyone is talking about it "finally being cancelled" when this all happened in 2006

I just thought, why haven't they made a COD movie yet? You'd kind of expect them to

2006 was just one of the cancellations (I'm using that term loosely since it was really just getting picked up and dropped constantly by major studios)

It wasn't cancelled until recently. The movie bounced around 6 different studios, but was never cancelled until 2012.
Greed and power went to their heads, this is happening way too much these days.
Bit of a shame. Halo has a pretty fascinating universe and I think that a film could have explored this in great detail.
Oh well, maybe sometime in the future.
