You know what I've seen though? "You're using adblock, please turn it off waah" far too many times.
1-3 dollars per month for the entire web? Sure that is one heck of a deal. Maybe even 10-15 dollars per month. However with ad block this is all moot anyway, I am not going to pay for that.
1-3 dollars per month, per website? No fucking way, are you kidding me? Even if you just pick something you use very often like YouTube that is still too expensive for a single site.
this idea is neat but needs work

Most of us already pay extortion rates to our ISP for internet access, we don't need another pay wall to jump over just to see the internet, fuck that.
Adblock is basically piracy for websites. This is would be the equivalent of Spotify or Netflix if it supported more websites. You can't expect people to make content for you, host websites for you, pay for bandwidth and servers and get nothing in return.

But I care about my experience and security too. Many sites have either tasteless ads or ads that are placed in a way that ruins my experience. Some even compromise security. Same way if a game has horrible annoying drm I'd rather crack it.
The thing is, we don't OWE anyone money. This seems to assume that if we're not going to want adverts, we are in debt to the website for not viewing them. I don't like that.
That's not true at all, this allows users to contribute to the site's creator while still not having to deal with annoying or malicious ads. Can't do that with adblock.
After all they called it "Contributor", not "Google Adblock".
If ads become reasonable, maybe I'll disable adblock here and there (but they're usually not).
Adblock (newer versions I suppose) already allow non intrusive ads that follow a certain criteria, it's enabled by default but it can be turned off if you want

AdSense is huge but not big enough to replace my adblock. I love the concept of this but it's useless unless they get EVERYBODY on board.
As a web user, I like the concept.
As a web dev, I dont like the fact I have to split it with google. Why wouldn't i just cut out the middle man and allow users to pay me directly to remove ads?
Edit: oh its all sites with adsense for one low price.
Literally the only problem I have with ads is the lack of security. Every single virus I have ever had on my computers was due to shitty drive-by advertisements. Unless I visit the site often enough and I get the impression that the webmaster actually cares about what kind of ads are on it, Adblock is staying on.
I try to avoid blocking ads as much as I can as well, but the moment there is a single fullscreen ad that has a timer to skip or anything that runs on its own and has sounds I block all ads on that website. I know the content creators need the support and most of the time ads are the only way to help them make money, but I'm sorry I hate jumping up because some stupid tab I have open decided to put on some horrible infomercial.
Also how do advertisers (not the website itself, but the people who put the ads on the website and pay the owner) know if ad block is run? I mean I never click on any ad I see so the websites are not making money off me through pay-per-click. Do they have a way of knowing how many people visited the website and how many of them were running ad block? Otherwise is there any difference between not caring about ads at all and blocking ads?
Ads that refresh themselves or load new ads after a while.
Ads that load and autoplay entire, 480p videos, with the volume all the way up.
Ads that cover content on the page but don't have one of those little x's so you can't close them, requiring you to reload.
Those fake "download" button ads or other such ads that disguise themselves as legitimate content on the page.
As long as any or all of these exist, I will not feel sorry for using adblock.
The fucking ads that take up like 1/4 of your screen, but when you hover over them they start taking up your full screen playing sound and video, and there is a tiny gray cross on a black background somewhere you have to click to make it go away again.
I'll disable adblock when there are no more ads that are: malicious, intrusive, loud, or misleading. Until then if you want to make money from your website offer a subscription service, join Patreon, take donations, or suck it up and take the cost. Don't bitch at your visitors for not wanting viruses from your shitty adsense ads.
So is no one else getting ads on youtube now even though they have adblock on?
Because I am.

Closing your eyes is piracy for billboards

google announces a new subscription-based program for google glass that blurs out all ads in time square at the low price of 3 dollars a minute
All this talk of adblock reminded me to finally getting around to donating for it.
I wouldn't mind paying a bit more more internet and have that sum distributed to sites I frequently visit.
Isn't that how Spotify does their thing?

Something tells me you're not that good with computers.

Wow. that's kind of an asshole thing to do. A small text/image box, placed at the bottom of the page, or off to the side somewhere, and you want to get rid of that, too? Why?
