Deus Ex: Human Defiance revealed as April Fools prank
I'd hardly say Eidos hyped the game up at all, the hype train came from people speculating when they acquired the name. They hadn't announced anything, it was just people kicking themselves into a death spin of hype for little reason.
They had announced it on the Facebook page the day before, though. The hype wasn't so much from the trademark as it was from the news coming on a day that isn't the day you're not supposed to be able to trust anything.
dicks

That is the only thing they did mind, and considering the day the announcement was announced to happen, people should have guessed something was up.
Also, I kinda want to play this...

Well, for everything else the rule of thumb is if it doesn't have "April 1" attached to it, or is early but incredibly obvious as a joke, it's not a joke (or in gmail's case, if joke is that people think it's a prank but it's real). A new Deus Ex isn't obvious as a joke, since it's something thousands of people would be really excited for, and they put the news out one day too early.
Stringing hopeful fans along all this time just to end with an April Fools? Not cool.
People actually thought it was for real, and totally not an April's Fools, "Heh yeah we're working on an 8-bit new Deus Ex game" ?
Oh God please kill me.

No, please look at what they put on their Facebook page. They said they were announcing the game the next day, and then all they had was that. They didn't say anything about 8-bit, or co-op, or anything other than "new Deus Ex game to be announced tomorrow". Before then, they had the trademark, but that's excusable.

Its your fault if you got ultra-hyped, not theirs.

But they are most probably working on an actual new Deus Ex game that is named Human Defiance anyway so?

They already confirmed the Human Defiance is not the name of any planned Deus Ex games. They had plans for it, then they decided against them, so they used it for their prank. Hopefully there's a new Deus Ex coming out, but they haven't said anything yet that wasn't a total lie.
That was actually pretty funny.
I'd love a copy of that 8-bit Icarus rendition.
They should demake the entire soundtrack.
