To be fair, Deus Ex really doesn't hold up in a lot of ways. The mechanics are hugely dated and the game is dead simple, because of terrible AI. The graphics were never good -- not even when it released -- and the voice acting sucks terribly.
That said, it's still something I can't recommend highly enough just because of how well it creates the illusion of choice. Because, in fact, the path through the game is very, very linear -- but it never feels like it. It's so good at world-building and guiding the player (not by the nose, but subtly), that you never think to question it. It's seamless in a way no other game really is.
As much as I love Deus Ex the PS2 port was ass and just isn't worth playing
Any computer from the past 10 years should be able to run this game fine, and it's cheaper on the PC anyways
If it doesn't runs, its because its not compatible or its "too powerful", like with Red Faction 2 where you need a DX9 only card to run or something.
Deus Ex: The Conspiracy lost segmented health bar, original HUD and also you can install augmentations without medbot. Plus many large levels got separated into small zones with loading screens. The only good thing it has is pre-rendered cutscenes, which look great, and slightly improved graphics (more polygons in NPC models, etc.).
Too much cons, I say.
I might buy the PS2 version.
I love the PC version, but there's a glitch that won't let me progress. At least I think it's a glitch.
I'd rather have a remake. Now THATS something we could sink our money into.
What would a remake achieve?
We will just experience the same story again.

Better controls (maybe, if not just to simplify it a bit, not talking about console simplification, just a simplification from Deus Ex's original "whole keyboard does something" mapping)
Graphics of this generation (which would be pretty sweet)
Better gameplay (you CANNOT DENY the game has certain problems around the gameplay)
And who knows what else.
Old games, running the world!

The gameplay is still better than Human Revolution's.

Remap the controls, you don't need even half the keyboard.
Old games, running the world!
A new age.
Don't hurt me guys but I hated sneaking in this game. I hate sneaking in almost every game except for Fallout and TES, even though i've only played those once at a friend's house :v:
Thanks to this article, I must now re install Deus Ex and spend the next few days obsessively replaying it.
beat the first two missions then we'll talk
I got pretty far hoping the game would get better, but the gameplay is just so goddamn boring I couldn't get into it. If they did a remake with the gun-play of a modern game I would love it, oh and revamped voice acting.
Game needs a Remake, That I would gladly pay 60-70 dollars for
I wish Eidos montreal would have released modding tools for human revolution, because then it would have been possible for fans to make a fan-made remake of deus ex 1 but oh well.
Don't think that remaking deus ex is a good idea, focus on making deus ex 4
Got past liberty, I found the ambrosia vaccine, now I gotta meet Navarre.
Got the PC version all set up with the HD mod. I know what I'm going to be spending my 3 day weekend doing :)
The gameplay is still better than Human Revolution's.
Not really.
You can do almost everything the first game let you do, without the fuss of having to have the skills near max level for them to actually be useful and anything shoddy that might come along.

I wasn't talking about just skills.
I was referring to the complete gameplay experience.
I remember it took me three tries to get into the original Deus Ex. I just didn't really like the controls and the game seemed kind of slow. I kept seeing those posts about DX being an amazing game, so I started it up and played like fuck. As soon as I reached Hong Kong I was hooked. It's one of my favorite games. The story and the choices you could make were amazing for the time
Also, Malkavian mod

You also had every once in a while some kind of domino effect where you could be doing well, but something would by mistake trigger an explosion and kill you.

Depends on how you look at it. Story gameplay (options how to handle situations) is superior in DE and other games lack this feature even more than DE:HR. When you look at overall gameplay though DE:HR has upgraded, more comfortable controls and even though AI isn't something great, it's still better than in the first game.
While i really want to play DE i just can't get into the controls.

This is what I meant.
Erm... wasn't the original Deus Ex already rated by the ESRB? I seem to remember having a boxed version of the game with a 16+ ESRB mark stamped on the front.

Rating boundaries change every now and then. Re-releases of anything tend to get re-rated just as a precaution anyway.

Hm, didn't know about that. Makes sense, I guess.

If you think about it. Deus Ex came out in the 90's, our ratings boards changed between then and now, we have different standards and so forth. And a re-release of a product may have extra or improved content added. It's worth re-rating just in case.
