You recommend people to not buy the game because of the graphics? Ok
Don't play retarded please...
This is not why he recommended people not to buy it.
The graphics should not be the only factor in a game sure but this is a fucking remaster of the 2004 Doom3 game yet they managed to fuck the graphics up even though they advertise better graphics than the original game...
I seriously didn't expect this to be a much better looking version of the old game but I at least expected it to look AT LEASAT AS GOOD as the original FOR FUCKS SAKE!
Why else would you release a 2004 game AGAIN and sell it so expensive when it's looking even worse than the original?
This does not make any fucking sense.
They even removed the modding ability for this version and there are lots of doom3 mods out there.
This can go fuck itself and doom3 owners should stick to their original doom3 since it's a million times better!
When did they say Doom 3 BFG edition would look better then the original?
When the graphics are fucked up beyond that of the original game (8-bit style textures and overlay/decal glitches), yes.
When the graphics are fucked in a way that destroys the atmosphere of the game (lighting), yes.
I'm not the type of guy to obsess over graphics and think they are everything. And I certainly don't have the most powerful of gaming rigs to enforce such a obsession.
But the game clearly has some gameplay ruining bugs.
I'm not even sure the textures are actually worse than the original game, it's just that the original title was designed to be dark and consequently most of the textures were low-resolution because they weren't put in bright light anyway. And making some cheap textures there and there probably allowed more memory for dynamic lighting and such.
I still can't believe they did not even TRY to make these models even slightly less blocky.

This was made in fucking 2004 by an amateur three months after the game's release, and ID is going to make us believe than in the span of 8 years they could not improve the models even by a tiny bit ?
When did they say Doom 3 BFG edition would look better then the original?
It's not even important whether they said it or not. This is the kind of stuff you HAVE TO put in a hd remake.
But its not even a HD remake.
I don't think it was ever advertised as such.
Its just a glorified compilation with new content.
I'm not even sure what anyone was expecting anything other then what it is.
Even says right in the description
DOOM 3 BFG Edition is the ultimate collection of games that defined the first person shooter
this isnt a HD remake, its basicly a release to ps3/x360 with some improvements, that they decided to sell to pc too.
But its not even a HD remake.

Advertised as a HD remake or not, it's EXACTLY what it is.
They are re-selling the same game with two titbits changed and include two previous titles that go with it, without changing anything on the way.
This is pretty much the definition of a poor HD remake. See how well that silent hill HD remake went.
Advertised as a HD remake or not, it's EXACTLY what it is.
How is it a remake, when its the exact same game. Its a re-release with a couple new features.
Doom 3 was already "HD" on the PC, just edit a config file.
'HD' on the console versions maybe, but thats it.
doesnt even have the best doom
(final doom ps1 version)
This is a waste if you already own the Doom collection on Steam.
To be honest, I think they should have released the graphics/achievements as an update for those who already own Doom 3, and then release the new levels as dlc.
That way, if you already own every Doom game, like me, and you don't want to have to repurchase, than you could buy the new levels at your discretion.
It would be wiser, those who don't own any Doom can buy the BFG edition, and those who already have it can enjoy the updates as well.
Also, those who are on the fence about this, and own Doom 3 already. Skip it, and just download graphical updates like texture enhancers and Sikk mod.

it clearly states in the debut trailer that it's a "remaster". I've no idea what that means to you. But to me it sounds like fixing bugs/glitches/problems. And in one interview Tim Willits even said they were improving the texture quality of the models.
Now I don't know about you but a majority of the problems I've listed (texture size glitches, 8-bit style texturing, and overlay glitching) falls under the "bugs/glitches/problems" category for me.
And improving texture quality sure doesn't translate to "Adding eyeliner" for me either.
Not to mention that fact that this version can't be modded, so it's more of a "you get what you're given and deal with it" thing.

Hey, look Doom 3 BFG is exactly how they advertised it to be.
Exactly. Delta, thank you.
Odd, I don't have an edit button for my last post.
Anyway, BFG edition is exactly what they advertised it as, and it's still a damn fun game.

No it's not exactly how they advertised it to be AT ALL!
It's flawed, it's bugged and it's textures are broken.
When compared to the original doom3 it's inferior not superior!
I don't give a shit if they tweaked the lighting to make it better if they ruined the already exiting textures and bumpmaps...
And any real pc gamer knows that replacing a game's save system with checkpoints doesn't make it better it makes it worse and retarded and consolized...
This new Doom3 BFG edition should simply be called Doom3 the broken consolized pc version.
Doom3 BFG edition for PC shows exactly the level at which id software is right now.
They have fallen so much that they are not even capable of releasing one of their own hit games from 2004, without destroying it and filling it with bugs and bad decisions.
And people wonder why Rage sucked so bad...
Imagine that if they can't even pull off a re-release of doom3 without completely fucking it up, they have absolutely no chance in this world to release a proper Doom4!
At this point I have every reason to believe that Doom4 will be a disaster of epic proportions, even worse than Rage was.

improved rendering and lighting,

And this is where the problem lies. The glitches are present, and the lighting is far too bright that it ruins the atmosphere.
Don't get me wrong I'm not after a new game with new textures and ultra-high res everything. I could get that with a few google searches and a few mods installed to the original Doom 3.
My complaint is that they're asking so much for this game, and advertising it as a remaster with new character textures, and improved rendering and lighting. Yet they can't even fix easily noticeable glitches, or keep modding support added.
and just a few mods can make your Doom 3 look ten times better; Whether you own the original or this "Enhanced" edition (lol).

*which cannot be modded.
What Delta said is spot on.
I just hope people don't continue to be misled into thinking this is a step up from the original in terms of graphics.
Everything is the same, shit is still as blurry as ever, and just a few mods can make your Doom 3 look ten times better; Whether you own the original or this "Enhanced" edition (lol).
But it's great if you don't already have any Doom games.
Absolutely WRONG!
This version of the game can't benefit from those graphics enhancement mods nor from any mods at all.
Go research before you post false information...
I have a question about this release.
As I don't own any of games from the Doom series, would it be logical to purchase this from Steam, since it packages all the Dooms from 1 to 3 plus some new missions?

Yes.
This great for people who don't already own Doom 3.
If you already own it, cannot I see spending $30 for a new level.
you need to do some reading
if you own Doom 3 it's discounted to $20
the Doom 1 and 2 on it do not use DOSbox and have Steam achievments
Doom 3 has enhanced visuals and some changed levels, as well as different gameplay
etc
Why do they keep slapping the Bethesda logo on id games? It's like Zenimax has no faith in the id brand.
In my opinion, they should have just released this exclusively for consoles.
you need to do some reading

Why would you buy BFG if you already have the base game
the Doom 1 and 2 on it do not use DOSbox and have Steam achievements
Steam Achievements, big fucking deal. I'd rather use ZDoom.
Doom 3 has enhanced visuals and some changed levels, as well as different gameplay etc
Have you seriously seen the screenshots ? They made the game much brighter and that's about it, not only does it take the ambiance away but it also reveals the shitty-ass textures that were there and weren't remade at all.
Good, maybe now they'll finally start focusing on Doom 4 already and get shit going.
Edit: Judging from what I'm reading (Checkpoint system), I'm probably gonna get the older version, if any.
It's like game developers forgot those things exist because of RESTRICTIONS, not because gamers are casual and think "lul chekpointz r kewl".
you need to do some reading

Apparently you need to do some reading as well
If you were to scroll down 2 posts from that I corrected myself.
I for one like it, I never had the "No Rest For The Living" levels, so that was a unexpected bonus when I checked out Doom II, although the changes are subtle, they make the game all around more pleasant, shadows seem cleaner, the motion blur is nice, and I like the lighter areas, although I can't compare them as I jumped straight into ROE which I haven't played before.
I for one like it, I never had the "No Rest For The Living" levels, so that was a unexpected bonus when I checked out Doom II,
Really? That is neat, I liked that chapter.
I knew this was going to be a simply cashin, without using the hindsight bias though. This is absolutely not worth the cash. You get doom 3 dirt cheap everywhere, also the orginials can be bought for nothing.
Well if you do not own any of these games, then you might get this package.
people forget this game was made in 2004
people forget this game was made in 2004
Well, that is a fair point. Still why slapping a higher price tag on it only for Doom3 with minimal new content?
That is fairly insolent.

$20 for lots of people, because Doom 3 has come in sooooo many cheap Steam sales packs that it's like everyone who'd ever consider buying BFG edition already owns Doom 3, even if they haven't played it yet
