In case you still haven't seen it, here is another surprise from Doom II which comes with Doom 3 BFG edition:

Censorship strikes again (Read video description).
....I have lost my faith on id Software.
$20 for lots of people, because Doom 3 has come in sooooo many cheap Steam sales packs that it's like everyone who'd ever consider buying BFG edition already owns Doom 3, even if they haven't played it yet
But why the fuck would you buy BFG if you already have Doom 3 seriously

Oh come the fuck on
I'm not even sure the textures are actually worse than the original game, it's just that the original title was designed to be dark and consequently most of the textures were low-resolution because they weren't put in bright light anyway. And making some cheap textures there and there probably allowed more memory for dynamic lighting and such.
I still can't believe they did not even TRY to make these models even slightly less blocky.

This was made in fucking 2004 by an amateur three months after the game's release, and ID is going to make us believe than in the span of 8 years they could not improve the models even by a tiny bit ?
[editline]16th October 2012[/editline]
It's not even important whether they said it or not. This is the kind of stuff you HAVE TO put in a hd remake.
The tessellated models were made by myself, EvilEngine and Revility, and none of us are amateurs. They also never said it was an hd remake, only that lighting would be updated, which it is.
The tessellated models were made by myself, EvilEngine and Revility, and none of us are amateurs. They also never said it was an hd remake, only that lighting would be updated, which it is.
Well you didn't work for ID and you still managed to release tessellated models a few months after release, which they have still not done 8 years after.
The "updated" lighting is terrible too.
And seriously if they are going to sell this shit 30 bucks, they HAVE to do more than just change one value and call it a day.
[editline]17th October 2012[/editline]
When you see people like Croteam or Just Add Water Developments work their ass off to re-release a game like serious sam or stranger's wrath with an actual justification behind it (actually improved graphics for instance), ID releasing a 8 years old game with no good change whatsoever at 30 bucks is just insulting.
people forget this game was made in 2004
Half-Life 2 was released in 2004 and the Orange Box update was better than this.
Half-Life 2 was released in 2004 and the Orange Box update was better than this.
That is true, but the target audience for the BFG edition was mainly console players.
poor id
That is true, but the target audience for the BFG edition was mainly console players.
Which doesn't really make it any better considering that it means the devs care so little about consoles that they did not even bother updating the game in any good way.
I played it at eurogamer, it's terrible

Odds are, they literally copy-pasted the wad file from the XBLA release into the BFG Edition and didn't bother to change anything back. The games act as platforms for running the wads, after all. But it's still kinda.. Lazy. Really lazy.
[editline]17th October 2012[/editline]
WELP, I misread the factors involving the censorship. That's BFG Edition-exclusive.
So yeah, it was a conscious effort apparently. Not that big a deal, considering they were mostly novelty maps and all (and I could never find them legitly), but it's kinda sad that ID just.. Caters in like that.
Why do they keep slapping the Bethesda logo on id games? It's like Zenimax has no faith in the id brand.
Bethesda slapping their logo on new id games is something I can understand but when they slap their logo to old id games that were made many years before bethesda ever had anything to do with id, that's just obvious of how they want their name popularized by a proven hit title in the eyes of the people that never played doom3 when it was new...
I think that having id sold to bethesda is the root of all id's problems today if you asked me...
Before they got bought over, id's games were perfect and even if they had a few bugs at the release date, they would patch the living shit out of them.
Now look at Rage how fucked up the release was and then look at how they can't even fucking re-release doom3 without destroying it.
Do we really expect id to change this trend in the near future when they release doom4?
Omg doom4 is so doomed...
Bethesda is the Publisher, so the logo needs to be there.
Just like new boxed copies of Valve games have the EA logo.
They were wrong when they named it Doom3 BFG edition. What they really wanted to say is, Doom3 BFJ(Big Fucking Joke) edition
HAHAHA, according to some vetaran doom3 modders from doom3world.org this new Doom3 BFG edition has the majority of it's textures from the low res port of Doom3 made for the XBOX1 console by Vicarious Vision studios in 2005. (YES you read that correctly XBOX 1 not Xbox 360)
Lool what a mess, it blows my mind to know that they did that.

It's downright pathetic but this is id and this is who is going to make doom4, so brace yourself...
wait was doom 3 ever good? i was under the impression it was a terrible entry for the series, i never enjoyed it when i played it
wait was doom 3 ever good? i was under the impression it was a terrible entry for the series, i never enjoyed it when i played it
It was pretty fun. People are complaining about the change of tone from the first two games and the fact you can't see jack shit in most areas but that's what made the game good in my opinion. It felt like it did its own thing and the flashlight part just added to the tension since you actually had some choices to make and some timing to have.
The only issue I had with it is that the scare factor got old really fast, and some of the sound design was questionable. Apart from that it had great moments.
Also some guy remade Doom 1 entirely in doom 3, which is a mod you will never be able to play in the BFG edition considering there is no mod option whatsoever. It had the cheesiest fucking intro cutscene ever but the rest was amazing.
Is the discount for Doom 3 owners only available for a limited time, or will it always be there?
Is the discount for Doom 3 owners only available for a limited time, or will it always be there?
I just checked, and the discount still shows for me. I'm in the US so the game is already released.

It was not just one guy, it was a team and I was the leader of it.
The mod was called doom reborn.
I also worked at the other mod called classic doom!

turns out the visuals are the same, not worse
And to think I might've picked this up on Xbox....but with all this stuff about how it's not even that better on PC? No thanks.

Thank god they were the same. It could have been bad, like the graphics being worse, or worse yet, the graphics being even a smidge better. Think of all the effort that ID might of put into it but didn't have to!
wait was doom 3 ever good? i was under the impression it was a terrible entry for the series, i never enjoyed it when i played it
It was okay, showed off a lot of new tech but nobody really bought their engine for it. The gameplay was above average, most of the rage at ID came from Doom 3 not playing like a Doom game. Graphics at the time were spectacular, but today there really is nothing special about Doom 3. It doesn't have the flair Doom 1&2 had.
DooM 3 hasn't aged very well...

Oh my mistake.
Well the intro was the cheesiest thing EVER but man that mod was fun :v:
[editline]19th October 2012[/editline]
Actually I think the cheesy intro is from the classic doom mod, not doom reborn.
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2973683
turns out the visuals are the same, not worse
I see misinformation is being used to battle misinformation. To put a conclusive end to this argument, here's an image comparison:
Original PC disc release on Ultra (uncompressed textures) quality:
[t]http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/5576/80479517.jpg[/t]
BFG Edition (compressed textures):
[t]http://img811.imageshack.us/img811/2600/bfgg.jpg[/t]
Now the only question you need to ask yourself is "Does the BFG Edition look the same as the original?"
Note this question also doubles as "Do I need glasses?"
did they ever fix this for PC and Xbox . ?
no
Those textures. Its like they forgot about the textures. That's like 50% of making a game look good is textures. How do they screw that up? Why would they re-release the same textures? Why didn't they change the textures with the new models?
They didnt re-release the textures. The used the console textures.
