I'm pretty sure a "golden age" is something you determine long after the fact.
We're entering a new era of graphics technology, software infrastructures and ideas. I think it's fairly safe to make the prediction that we're about to go through a golden age. [editline]6th April 2015[/editline] And the industry isn't going to crash any time soon lmao. stop this doomsday nonsense. The big publishers like EA, Ubisoft, Activision, etc. are far too big to just fail at the moment. They're actually making record profits with their main titles, and that's all that matters to them. Self publishing is easier than ever. And with the massive interest from new blood, acquiring a lower skill team is both cost effective and stupendously easy. Indie developers have really never had it better.

I specifically said "But I doubt it'll ever happen" people are cynical towards AAA devs, but not even close to as badly as they were in the 80's crash (which was basically caused by having too many choices of console and no good games), if it continues to get worse, maybe a crash would be best. I'd had to see what insane shit DLC/DRM comes in the future. indie titles would become massively profitable if that happened though probably
Well I have to agree with him, it's gonna be a great year for racing games. Project cars comes out in a few weeks, Dirt 3 just purged its GFWL connections, and there's a bunch of arcadey racers coming out later this year, Distance, Drift stage, carmageddon reincarnation, and first 90's arcade racer.
I actually thought that we were far from a golden age, seeing that the consumer has to please the developer regarding Japanese releases on Steam.
I love how PC is getting more evenly treated in terms of OS on Steam. Windows, Linux and to a lesser extent OSX being present on the platform has always been great, but i cannot say enough how good it is for the consumer that SteamPlay exists.
Good thing good PC hardware is pretty cheap now, too.
Not sure what you're smoking, building a pc from ground up is very expensive this really needs to be different, I mean any console is 5x cheaper.

At least with PC you have the choice to either buy something affordable or buy a GPU that costs the same as a console (which, the gpu is always the most expensive part)

If you keep an eye on eBay you can snag a few parts fairly easy.
I built my PC with 400 dollars in 2012 and it still holds up today albeit one or two upgrades. (GPU and CPU) Of course it will be more expensive than a console but if you build an expensive enough PC it pays for itself the more you use it.

I honestly agree, I see more people than ever switching to PC games. Seems to be a lot of discontent at the new consoles and its doesn't seem to be a loud few either.
Good thing good PC hardware is pretty cheap now, too.
the price of memory is ridiculous right now
In my opinion, the biggest problem the gaming industry is facing is the increased commercialisation and mainstream popularity of gaming, ultimately leading to a decreased quality in products, where the primary incentive behind creating games is how they can be monetized to their fullest extent - regardless of the degradation of quality caused. Whilst there may be more games available for PC, an increasing majority of new releases appear to be games crippled by DRM, riddled with unfair 'Pay to Win' microtransactions, and a plethora of shitty, unimaginative, indie titles.
