The 10 most overhyped PC games that aren't No Man's Sky

Fallout 4 was especially bad, though
There's a difference between something being overhyped and something being stripped of features.
Take Spore, as an example. When the game was first announced, people were hyped for what they saw in the trailers, only for the game to be stripped of most of what was shown in the trailers and demonstrations, making people disappointed by what the final product ended up being. That's not getting overhyped, that's being disappointed because the features that were originally announced are no longer present.
Now, let's say that, instead, when the announced Spore, it was exactly like it was now, and it got people hyped, then people started expecting more and more stuff from the game, some of which weren't even announced, or the developers were vague on what was in the game, which got people speculating more and more. They're hyping themselves up on a game that will likely have a lot less then they expect. That's overhyping.
Sure there's a distinction, and distinguishing between the two makes sense if you want to clarify where the blame lies, but in general (and in the context of this article) 'overhyped' just means anything that fails to live up to the high expectations of the public. Expectations may range from lofty to impossible but I find "overhyped" to be an appropriate word regardless of who created the high expectations. Which is exactly what these games are.
Couldn't agree harder on Dead Island, it had so many great things going for it but it just didn't feel like a solid experience.
I found the main story of Fallout 4 so dull I immediately went back to New Vegas the moment it finished. It was like jumping into a cool pool on a hot summers day after being left out in it all day, I mean seriously as I loaded it back up it was like joy was returning into my life and even during the intro I could get the sense of more love and care placed into this entire game than I ever got during Fallout 4.
i just want the gameplay of fallout 4 put onto the environment and story of new vegas. could be literally the exact same story and i would play it forever
Okay mod who's changing the titles, you can stop now.

I hope he changes every single itt title for 6 more months tbh
As if skyrims wasn't worse
I really, really don't think it was. I actually managed to finish that one.
The final 3/4 levels were a let down sure, but Crysis was not overhyped. It was, for it's time, fantastic.
MGSV though, while It is still my favorite game of 2015 and i had tonnes of fun with it, it was still a let down. That should be on that list.
They article says the game was over hyped, but also an rare example of a game living up to it's hype.
replace ESO or crysis with DNF and we're good
Crysis was a goddamn amazing shooter right up until the fucking aliens showed up. The expansion pack was even better. Don't know why it's on this list.

I read the article and i dissagree with it being overhyped though, speaking for myself but i remember the thread here at the time and i know this sentiment is shared by many. The SP was great, the multiplayer (read: Power Struggle) was brilliant and it shipped with the god damn cry engine editor to make wher ever the hell we pleased with it.
In fact for the sole reason it came with the entire editor i'm incliend to argue that it well and truely exceeded expectations.

Because it's an opinion. a poorly thought and reasoned opinion.
You shouldn't take it as factual in any respect.
A part of me can't help but think Half-Life 3 should be on this list. Trust me, as soon as we hear about a release date, expectations will skyrocket from 10+ years of built-up hype.

If it had been released as of now, it would almost certainly have made the list.
Fallout 4's writing is terrible on a how new level because of how badly a lot of the quests are written, the main quest is just icing on my shit sandwich.
The dialogue is horrible in every single one of them, you can't exploit any of your characters strengths and solve a quest multiple ways like 1/2/NV (and even 3 in some of them) and theirs tons of inconsistencies. Like for example ghouls are just immortal beings that don't require food or water anymore.
The writing in Ob/3 was never going to win any awards but it could at least hold the game up
Then you got the Main quest which takes away one of the best things about these games. Your backstory or who you are isn't defined by you anymore but your concern for your son.
I'm sorry, but am I the only person who played Fallout 3 and paid attention to the story? It's such a bullshit piece of nonsense. You take the most roundabout rout to find you dad, you need to use a fucking GECK to fix a water filter, everyone wants to be the one to turn the filter on (ie. the least important part), the President of America is a robot who can be talked into killing the Enclave with an easy speech check, and Autumn survives immense radiation poisoning by using a mysterious needle filled with magic anti-radiation drugs which is never mentioned (and simultaneously makes your dad's selfless (and dumb) self-sacrifice completely meaningless).
Fallout 4's story is certainly boring but it at least makes sense. Unlike Fallout 3, where a Psycho fuelled fever dream would probably be more coherent.
Also regarding ghouls, in Fallout 3 there were just as many dumb ghoul related things, like ghouls locked in a subway with no food surviving since the Great War. At least in Fallout 4 they usually go to the trouble of showing that the ghouls have some form of food. To the point where the only example people ever manage to bring up is the kid in the fridge, which is a terrible story all around.
I get that Fallout 4 wasn't the game a lot of people wanted, but can we please stop all this hyperbolic bullshit when it come to talking about the game? Acting as though it's the worst written game ever doesn't actually help in discussion what made the writing bad or why it was bad. Every time it's just "Guh, the dialogue system is so bad, and the story is poopy butts that don't make no sense."
doesnt excuse one, but you shouldnt expect one, if you're no stranger to bethesda games that my son is your mistake tbh
story in oblivion sucked, story in fallout 3 sucked, story in skyrim sucked, the portrayal and dialogue of it all
why expect anything different in fallout 4? you're just letting yourself down honestly
I'd go as far as to say the story in Morrowind sucked too. How you went about defeating Dagoth-Ur was neat (and more than a little tedious when you had to get everyone's approval) but the actual story was as generic as any other Elder Scrolls story.
