• Wot I Think: The Witcher 2

I don't know why people hate the doors so much. It's not like you have to go through them during fights.
To be fair, they're two completely different approaches to RPGs, so it's a bit tougher to compare. I, myself, like the more compelling story of the Witcher than I do the wandering in Oblivion and Morrowind. It reminds me of the Baldur's Gates, the Fallouts... good times. I think The Elder Scrolls have great worlds to explore, but not much else.
Indeed. Skyrim will have to bring a lot more to the table than just freeroam if it wants to beat The Witcher 2. The story, lore and characters in TW2 are far more interesting.
combat is very jittery
Witcher 2 has quite a :bandwagon: At least in Poland.
Dear RPS, Stop spelling what as wot! It makes you look even more uneducated than you are currently.
cry about it
cry about it
About wot?

A good story would certainly help the ES games feel richer, but it doesn't require it like a game like Witcher 2 does. It really comes down to a matter of taste, and its always been like this ever since ES games first started coming out. You have the ES games for the ultimate fantasy freeroam adventure romp, and then you have games like NWN, Witcher, etc for the ultimate story driven fantasy quest. There isn't any "beating", because they arent playing on the same field.
Witcher 2 has quite a :bandwagon:
You're the one who's riding on bethesda's dick. All of their recent games have been shit and I don't really think skyrim is going to be any better. Witcher 2 on the other hand is just fuckin brilliant.
Is it necessary to beat TW1 first?
Is it necessary to beat TW1 first?
It helps. The beginning of the game doesn't explain the story very much. The final cutscene in the first game explains why Geralt is where he is at the beginning of the second game.
Witcher 2 has quite a :bandwagon:
No one I know personally even touches games on the computer. The thing that brought me into Witcher 2 was the unique take on different fantastical aspects that I had never really experienced, like the elves and dwarves being treated as 'sub-human', or the fact that potions are all double-edged swords. The sole fact of the matter is that Witcher 2 has a lot of stuff that's good about it. Yeah, you can have other games with that quality as well, but there's a LOT less to complain about in Witcher 2. and also I can't wait for Skyrim. it looks just as promising as The Witcher 2 did The deciding factor on whichever one wins my heart is based on if when I play it, I get more than I expected (a feeling that I quite familiarly associate to the witcher 2 )
Right, I got bored after a couple of hours? Now let me ask you a question: Do you actually get to do that advisor chick at some point of the game? If yes, I might actually care long enough to finish the game.

Downloading the game as we speak. This game better be good considering the reviews its getting. The combat is already looking pretty lacking what with the constant rolling and what appears to be "press x to swing sword at bad guy", but that doesn't have to be a deal breaker. After all the elder scrolls series suffered from terrible combat mechanics but was still pretty fun to play and a great series. I noticed from a few of the youtube videos I watched that the character's lines just seemed... odd. Almost like an unnatural rendition of old speak saying things like "my good sir/man" which sort of dissolves their personalities a little. I felt like the voice acting in some clips was shotty too; using awkward or just lacking emotional undertones when saying lines. I mean you just slandered like 6 top notch games including their upcoming sequel to an awesome series.

Here, a generic gamer says that a "true rpg" shouldn't have character creation and The Witcher is the best RPG of all time and will for ever be. At least, the gamers I know.

The game seems punishingly difficult at first but that goes away relatively quickly considering the length of the game. wait wait, it has sex? :q:
wait wait, it has sex? :q:
so much sex, counting the prostitutes I think my geralt's had about 10 girls during the course of the game
Played the game. Wish I hadn't. Its a chore to play. The only redeeming qualities about it are the graphics and being tuned properly for the PC. Also there's a ton of cutscenes if you're into that, some are good, most of the time its boring crap that you don't care about. Characters are basically grey blobs talking about past events that you have no association with and of made up groups that you never meet in game or have any personal connection with. The sceneplay is good, but its just like the game. Looks good but has no actual content or pull. Combat is essentially click mouse to hit, press space to dodge. Constantly cast a fucking shield so you don't die 10 seconds into the fight. The fighting is ridiculously hard all the way though making it extremely frustrating. Its not challenging in a good way, the challenge comes from dealing with combat quirks and the 5 enemies at once who all do 25% damage per attack. Encounters are either laughably easy or annoyingly difficult. I just got to letho the kingslayer and, after my 8th try, quit. His fireball spell takes 30% of my health. He casts an unbreakable 20 second barrier constantly with a 5 second window for attacking. Yes I try and trap him, no its not easy to do, yes I have the second best blade you can have at that time and some quality augmented crafted armor. When I started playing the game I was expecting to engage my enemies like a man, parry their attacks, counter attack, use spells to turn the tide, ect. Nope. You win combat by exploiting the AI's predictability, running/rolling around like a fucking clown, and dashing in to do a little fruity pick every now and then until your enemyies are finally dead and you can trudge on. I don't usually quit a game because its too hard (I beat that 'impossible' flash runner simulator game where you controlled the legs) but this game doesn't deserve another second of my time. Its pretty to look at but has no gameplay content and no amount of cutscenes can save it. Its not like you make too many huge decisions in game either. You're choices have little consequence. If you want a good story, read the book. The game is a waste of 13 GB and your time. People that played this game and gave it a good review must be playing on easy and are probably all WoW players who are so used to the mind numbing hack and slash mechanics that require no thought or planning (unless you consider going to a merchant and purchasing/crafting better gear forethought) and love pretty graphics. You can't rate a damn game on semantics, graphics, and sceneplay. That's stupid. Fuck this game. Jim Rossignal: -10 credibility. +10 infamy
Was taking you seriously until I read this. You are entitled to your opinion and I 100% respect that. However the moment you start attacking people who think differently than you is when you cross the line.
Sorry that behavior offends you, but I had to take a jab at the people I trusted who I feel betrayed me. Wasted my money and time only to be frustrated and lied to. I look to RPS writers for quality game reviews (among other sites) and this review is particularly strong as are a few others. I went against my instinct on this one and regret it. In fact, rereading his review just makes me sick. Its a 5/10 game (assuming you play through on easy) at best and he praises it like its the game of the century.
I really do hope you never write any more game reviews.
Best game I've ever played srs [editline]24th May 2011[/editline] Played on normal, had a blast and it really was a challenge.
dumb spam, nice [editline]24th May 2011[/editline] you can just feel the hurt emanating from his butt
dumb spam, nice [editline]24th May 2011[/editline] you can just feel the hurt emanating from his butt
Stop shit posting. I rated your post dumb because what you said can be expressed with a rating. No need to post "I disagree" when there's a rating for it. I shouldn't have to tell an 08er this. Now you're posting about ratings.
The game isn't bad just because you suck at it
The game isn't bad just because you suck at it
Read around. Plenty of people complain about the difficulty. Even the writer in the OP Jim says that most people will have switched from normal to easy after trying the first levels. I'm not switching to easy to play this because A) people say its too easy on easy and B) this game is boring enough without the random difficulty spikes. The difficulty is only one aspect of why this game is lame. For me it was the last straw. Please reread my post. I also think its funny how you think this game is skill based. You're clearly a casual gamer.
"I also think its funny how you think this game is skill based. You're clearly a casual gamer." - Slight
"I also think its funny how you think this game is skill based. You're clearly a casual gamer." - Slight
Just stop posting. You clearly have no argument and you've shit posted 3 times now.
Just stop posting. You clearly have no argument and you've shit posted 3 times now.
He's right though. You're only complaint against the game is the level of difficulty. However, i have to disagree with you. The game is challenging BUT it's very rewarding at the same time. I'm not saying it's a good game because of its graphics. I'm running the game on the lowest possible settings. I'm saying it's the best RPG ever because it is, in fact, the best rpg ever made. It's just so much better than all other rpg games in every way imaginable. After i finished the game once (on normal settings mind you) i started playing a new game immediately.
