• Why every PC gamer should try Planetside 2

I can't get through the tutorial without crashing to the desktop. No error or anything; it just dies. [editline]22nd February 2014[/editline] Validation caught some stuff, maybe It'll work now. [editline]22nd February 2014[/editline] Still crashes. Nothing changed.
The best part of Planetside 2 is either right after or right before the giant shitpiles of action occur. There's something about seeing Sunderers and MAXes buzzing around and trying to get organized that gives off an amazing, almost surreal atmosphere. The same with those Biodomes; you can spend several minutes sitting around with 50 other people just waiting for the 100 enemies down below or just on the other side of the dome to decide it's time to attack. [editline]23rd February 2014[/editline] I also had a blast in tiny squads trying to hold off another tiny squad or two in some checkpoint in the middle of nowhere. It's such a great change of pace fighting with those numbers in areas designed for 10 times that number of players.
this is funny because I actually redownloaded PS2 earlier this week, I played it for an hour and got bored haven't played it since. the setup is right, and all the pieces sound good, but the way the game plays out is just...wrong.
getting a really "BuzzfeedN" vibe off this article
face it PCgamesN Planetside 2 isn't that great, guys.
face it PCgamesN Planetside 2 isn't that great, guys.
It is a pretty great game, despite it's flaws. It just needs to stop competing with Battlefield/CoD and go to it's roots (PS1). And SOE needs to seriously rethink their design/balancing decisions.
huh. Let's see how many of your reasons don't apply to me. Ok, fair enough. I like Bay's movies. They've about as much substance as an ankle deep ocean but I quite enjoy watching a mindless action movie wherein the main characters don't go more than two or three lines between something exploding. Next point. BZZZZZRT! Massively, Multiplayer, and me do NOT get along. Even normal multiplayer doesn't get along with me. I'm a single player PC gamer through and through. Next point. That I don't mind much. If it's done right. I like CCR as much as anyone with half a brain, but them having a classic soundtrack from the 60s is not going to get me in-game. And it's not even official music, I have to supply the CCR myself. Which I can do to any other game. BZZRT! Next point. Key words are "in the right hands". I don't play competitively. I play to screw around and blow shit up. When I play TF2 my KDR rarely tops 0.5 and I'm perfectly happy with that. Which means these things are useless to me. BZZRT! Next point. That sounds great and all until you realize just how many ways there are for the playerbase to counter a random casual in a cloak plinking at noobs who wouldn't know their ass from WSAD if their real lives depended on it. BZZRT! Next point. Yeah, and look at the scale of Panau. Even more magnificent. With 100% less getting ganked by people who do nothing but play Planetside 2. Which is why I'd rather play Just Cause 2. Also JC2MP exists if I absolutely insist on getting ganked by crazily well skilled random people with names that look like random terminal code from Fallout 3. BZZRT! Next point. Indeed, it is. For the audience. Which is why I will stay in the audience myself. I don't enjoy failing repeatedly time and time again. BZZRT! Next point. Huh. Either I join up with the NC and get all those badass toys they get, and in the process get in the way of the Terran republic, or I join the Terran republic and end up little more than a zergling in a ZvZ match. GGNORE. BZZRT! Next point. So does EVE Online. BZZRT! Next point. Interesting, looks fun, but I don't have the patience to grind certs for months on end to even get into one of those things. BZZRT! Next point. Too bad it's Civ V's Ghandi. BZZRT! Next point. Huh. Random C4 deliveries. I do like that idea. But I'm sure using C4 effectively is locked being a mountain of cert grinding and skill I don't have the time, patience or willingness to grind. But I'll award ya this one anyway and then go do some C4 shenanigans in FNV instead. Ding! ..Huh. how about that, PCGamesN. Looks like there's at least one PC Gamer that shouldn't try Planetside 2....and, oddly enough, did actually try it! Seems the main issue I had at the time(Basically it ran like regurgitated assholes) isn't an issue anymore, but by this point my curiosity has waned sufficiently that I'm simply uninterested. It doesn't fit my usual preferences and it doesn't have anything unique to itself that stands out to me despite not being the usual sort of game I play. I think I'll stick to Kerbal Space Program and Fallout: New Vegas for now.
god I've seen some stuck up wankers in my time but jesus fuck
I tried my best to play this but it's really hard to play a game that only runs at 15 fps on minimum settings. This was about 5 months ago.
Why are they writing like it's buzzfeed?
TEN SIGNS THAT SHOW YOU WERE PART OF NC RATE OMG
I tried my best to play this but it's really hard to play a game that only runs at 15 fps on minimum settings. This was about 5 months ago.
It should run better now, there was a pretty big performance patch at the end of November which helped out a lot. Although how much it improved will vary from one PC to another so it's hard to tell how much better it'll be for you.
Eh, PS2 is nice and all, but I can't wait for PS1 to go free in april. I just hope we get a decent amount of people in PS1...
Eh, PS2 is nice and all, but I can't wait for PS1 to go free in april. When they gave every previous player 6 months free a few months ago, there was maybe a hundred players (total) online.
Planetside 1 has aged really badly. When they gave every previous player 6 months free a few months ago, there was maybe a hundred players (total) online.
Aw shucks, really? Well that sucks. Still, I'll give it another go in april. shit's pretty fun.
*For a few weeks, and then get bored/frustrated at the horrendously slow content development, balance issues, and endless cert grind.
The slow content and balance issues are being tackled better, now. The slow content was from them shifting pretty much all their (non-art) staff to optimizing the game for several months, but now that's over with they've gotten back to adding new crap. Like the revamped Amerish continent. With weekly updates, more content is being added at a faster rate and balance changes are more frequent. Still has the problem of SOE's ham-fisted balance ("Overpowered? NERF IT INTO THE GROUND!") and some stuff remaining OP (lol Mana AV turrets), but it's gotten much better. [editline]23rd February 2014[/editline]
Aw shucks, really? Well that sucks. Still, I'll give it another go in april. shit's pretty fun.
Yeah. PS1 still has some really cool features - but as far as being fun to play, PS2 really outshines it for most players. The gunfighting in PlanetSide 1 is particularly frustrating due to the hilariously dated netcode, which lead to many players calling it "ClientSide", as fights basically revolve around exploiting the netcode. The most common exploit being "ADADA" strafing, mashing the strafe buttons in the proper sequence (in time with the slow server synchronization checks) to basically teleport from side to side on the enemy's screen.
Is there still no SLI support? While the game ran fine on one card (after multiple patches)... it sort of defeats the whole point of putting together an expensive PC.
god I've seen some stuck up wankers in my time but jesus fuck
There's a reason he has Jeremy Clarkson as an avatar.
I played it during the alpha, it was good. I played it during the beta, it was shit. I played it on release, it was shit, looked like shit, and ran like shit (triple strike combo!). I played it recently because a friend wanted me to get into it, literally nothing was improved. Overall this game has absolutely no value to it, even the mmo style battles aren't even there anymore.
Since it's free it's hard to argue with the logic of just getting people to try it. In my experience, Planetside 2 is a game of peaks and valleys. At it's absolute best you get an FPS experience you just don't find in any other game of any type. Massive pitched battles across continental maps with players following squad leaders and platoon leaders and organically forming armored convoys and air groups. For the few hours that two armies of equal size can stay in combat, Planetside 2 is amazing. Outside of those hours per day though are the valleys, where its hard to find a fight and impossible to find an even one. The player-driven nature of the game means that sometimes it's just more of a pain in the ass to play the game than it's worth. This isn't helped by the absolutely absurd cert grind. I get it's like that because the game is free, and to be fair you get a lot of game for free, but the amount of time you have to spend merely to become equal with your opponents is just unnecessary. That said though, definitely still worth a try.
When I tried it, the game ran like 100% pure ass extract and it involved a whole lot of walking and driving only to get sniped by some dude. No thanks.
It's worth a try, at the very least for experiencing multiplayer FPS battles of this scale. Once the novelty of massive battles (where you'll eventually realize just how little efforts matter for the tide of the battle) wears out however what remains is a competent but a bit repetitive online shooter not unlike Battlefield. I will say however that a business model with microtransactions has never been this minimally obnoxious. Most of the guns provide only situational advantages and everything can be substituted with player skill. You can buy upgrades but you can't pay to increase your twitch.
-snip awful reading-
Why did you even bother typing beyond this point
Because I wanted to. Don't like it? Don't read it.
If you don't like it ok we really don't care about your bitching.
I don't care if you like or agree with what I have to say. I said my piece and if you don't like what I have to say that's your problem. Don't read it if you don't like it. Nowhere in FP's rules does it say "TestECull must only say things that proch agrees with!", and as long as that is true I will not change what I have to say for you.
It's a pretty good game, but why is PCNGamesN taking the Buzzfeed approach to tell me about it?
Don't like it? Don't read it.
You clearly didn't like the article, so why did you read it?
Nick Wilson should get the boot SO HARD he vomits faeces. Or spews out another shitty article while going out of the door, whichever comes first.
