I always feel weird when people compare it favourably to FO3, saying that it's a complete improvement over it. In a lot of ways, yeah, but the failures are too bad to ignore, even next to Fallout 3. The role-playing aspect in particular is an absolute disappointment, and it becomes glaringly obvious in parts of the main quest like [sp]Meeting Kellog and having no choice but to kill him, and prefacing it with 4 different kinds of "fuck you" lines[/sp] or [sp]meeting Shaun and Father and having no options but "distraught parent"[/sp] or (mind you, I only just got to this part) [sp]Desdemona telling you you'll have to pick between the Railroad and the Minutemen (and I'm guessing if I go further I'll have to pick between them and the Institute and BOS) because she just outright assumes the Minutemen and the Commonwealth in general to be "rotten to the core" and irredeemably hostile to synths, without giving you some kind of recourse of "hey lady maybe if you, you know, educated people about them they'd be less hostile" or going "bitch I'm the fucking general, they do what I say" or something.[/sp] Those are just the main quest examples I can think of, there's plenty of other shit like that in side-quests (which, by the way, the game is heavily reliant on, but in the form of those goddamn radiant Minuteman quests you can never escape from) and all in all it's a huge bummer because A) everything is voiced which means it can't be fixed by mods, and B) the dumb writing is canon.
everything in the story in fallout 4 doesn't seem particularly inspiring or good, but the general feel of the game is an improvement over fallout 3
i was put into hospital for 3 days when i first fired a gun in fallout 3 because i suffered 17 simultaneous strokes from how it felt

That's about the only improvement. Its the fucking gunplay. Even the settlement system is completely more broken than the modded version in New Vegas.
Like I've said, Fallout 4 has a ton of potential and you see large glimmers of it in the fucking game and then it veers into 'weird bugs and hilariously and poorly implemented UI and other things'.
The fact that possibly the biggest reason people are looking forward to modding tools is so that mods can fix Bethesda's genuine fuck-ups is rather telling.
