i used this mod in my last playthrough. (note using the modded creatureparts in tribal will cause the civ and space modes to break so remove the modded parts before tribal.)

Is the EA servers still up for this game?
Do not get the steam version unless you want the game crashing during the tribal stage and not being able to log in for custom content.
Get the Origin version, and make sure it's updated.

The only similarity is a vaguely similar creature creator thing, and even that is really far removed from Spore.
