It's a large enough number to indicate that there is a social origin to this. That number is far too high to just be an anomaly.
It's not an anomaly, but saying that this is mostly a gender issue is irresponsible and wrong.
I can't find the actual survey ...
It's linked near the top of the post.
How about the entire point of this thread, the people on twitter.
because you can say so much about what you believe people should do on twitter
Can you make the connection between this and other crimes? How about "Maybe he shouldn't been waving his diamond rings around"?
I'm not saying it's the woman's fault, but just as you protect yourself from being robbed, you protect yourself agains rape.
The point here is that the victim shouldn't even need to worry about being raped because of getting drunk.
What they don't understand is that they're not justifying rape by saying this.
All those people are saying is, "Don't be stupid", that doesn't automatically translate into "she/he deserved it"
Same as "Lock your door after you exit the house"
Not my fault you look past the people who are saying this is a gender issue alone and pretending they don't exist, which is the entire focus of this article.
For the ten millionth time, nobody is saying that. You've lost dude. Go home. Go read a book. Go make a birdhouse.
Can you make the connection between this and other crimes? How about "Maybe he shouldn't been waving his diamond rings around"?

And you can go to hell, creep.

That works really well for women. "You shouldn't have been waving around the fact that you're a woman."
I remember one study where they interviewed actual rapists and they said that they actually go after the more conservatively dressed girls, because they're less likely to fight back or make a fuss.
Plus, the majority of rapes are by people the women know.
But please, by all means, do continue to compare women to objects.

It's the same copied/linked article, I can't find evidence of this survey actually taking place.

She shouldn't have to worry just as I shouldn't have to worry walking in a bad part of town.

Yes because when I'm assaulted the robber points a gun to my diamond ring. I'm protecting MYSELF from robbery.
She shouldn't have to worry just as I shouldn't have to worry walking in a bad part of town.
That's what I'm saying.
if you forgot to lock your door and you got robbed, and I told you "Should've remembered to lock your door", I didn't mean that you deserved to get robbed.
I'm just saying that what you did was stupid.
She shouldn't have to worry just as I shouldn't have to worry walking in a bad part of town.
So, is the solution just for women to never go to bars or parties, or else they're stupid and to blame for being raped?
Yes because when I'm assaulted the robber points a gun to my diamond ring. I'm protecting MYSELF from robbery.
Except you compared flashing around diamond rings to just being a woman.

If your reaction to a rape victim is "Don't be stupid" then you should seriously reconsider your world views before giving other people life advice.
Also 90% of rape victims are assaulted by someone they knew. This idea that rapes exclusively happen in seedy back alleys with knife-wielding thugs belies an ignorance of sexual assault statitistcs.
http://www.davidlisak.com/wp-content/uploads/pdf/RepeatRapeinUndetectedRapists.pdf
This survey consists of 4 separate studies that were done between 1991-1998
Considering that this is a study that's based on statistics, it's pretty outdated.
You can base really base anything on this, a lot can happen in 16 years ...
That's what I'm saying.

HOW ABOUT YOU DON'T SAY ANYTHING?
Do you honestly think there's any rape victim in the world who wants to hear your fucking anti-rape advice? If you're lying on the ground after a mugging, bleeding into the gutter are you going to want to hear someone come up to you and say "you shouldn't have been in this part of town. I still blame the mugger, though..." Do you think that would help the situation in any way? Do you think teaching women to be terrified to leave their homes is the appropriate response to rape, as opposed to teaching men not to rape people?
How vital and precious do you think your anti-rape advice is that it's ok to just spew it around like it's the good news about jesus? You're not helping anybody with that shit.

I didn't give you life advice, chill.
I would obviously sympathize with the rape victim, and I would definitely not accuse him/her of anything.
I would just tell him/her, next time "be more cautious".
Gender equality is impossible, men and women are different on a biological and on psychological level. They both have different needs and wants. Gender equality can only supply the middle ground, the other areas need women/men rights.
i'm gonna have to ask for a comprehensive source
but have this anyway:

How about you keep your fucking "advice" to yourself, instead?

Women and men are really different, he's not trying to use biology to justify anything here.
So your use of Biotruths here is silly.

wow, will you fucking chill?
did this trigger you or something?

Mutually exclusive.
Gender equality is impossible, men and women are different on a biological and on psychological level.
You're making the common mistake of interpreting group differences as categorical rather than as overlapping distributions (the mean of one group is different from the mean of another).
To put it simply: there's more differences between all men, and between all women, than there are differences between men and women.

I really don't think they would need that advice, seeing as how they've, you know, just been raped, and will likely play the situation over and over in their head for years, going over every little detail.

Can I get a source on this?

Do you realize that getting to saunter around and casually throw out "advice" about "avoiding rape" like "never leave your home" and "never drink alcohol" with the same detachment that people rec action movies to each other with is a luxury that some other people (mainly women) don't have?
"Just don't go outside at night. NBD" - someone who doesn't have to live in the same reality that women do.

Do you really imagine me in this context, like Going to a rape victim, right after she/he got raped and giving them this advice?
HOW ABOUT YOU DON'T SAY ANYTHING?

You think men aren't taught not to rape? Jesus fuck, that's like day 1.
Can I get a source on this?
I have one, but it's in French: http://www.tedxparis.com/talks/catherine-vidal-le-cerveau-a-t-il-un-sexe/
(it's from a neurobiologist and research leader at the Pasteur institute in Paris.)
Do you really imagine me in this context, like Going to a rape victim, right after she/he got raped and giving them this advice?
What's the difference if you do it right after or a month after? What's the difference if you're saying it to someone specific than to people at large?
You say you're "sympathetic" to the rape victims but that's obviously not true seeing as how you're so concerned with diagnosing the ways in which you think they brought about their own rape and informing them of it.
Do you have any proof that a significant portion of reported rapes are false?
Because it's really somewhere near 5%.
But please, provide your sources.
Where did I even say this?
Do you realize that getting to saunter around and casually throw out "advice" about "avoiding rape" like "never leave your home" and "never drink alcohol" with the same detachment that people rec action movies to each other with is a luxury that some other people (mainly women) don't have?

The US might actually be the only country where men get raped more than women.
You think men aren't taught not to rape? Jesus fuck, that's like day 1.
This again...
Dude, the problem is that rape is normalized and washed away — there was a study where people admitted to rape as long as you didn't use the word "rape" to describe the act. This is one of many examples.
