I don't know if all the hate is the bandwagon or those who have had issues with GFWL, no doubt a mixture of both.
It is not even supported worldwide
I've never had any problems with the updating of games, sure it wasn't something to do with your internet?
It downloaded one patch at a time, nothing connection related.
Oh wow so many people think the world's going to end because games keep on using GFWL. Also a shame that many will avoid a possibly great game because it will use GFWL.
It's just a fucking DRM system. I've had no problems ever with GFWL and probably many of the people who actually claim to have problems with it say so just to join a bandwagon of hate because "Steam is betar!111".
While it is no different than Steam in that regard, having to use both Steam and GFWL for one title is stupid. I also had lots of issues with GFWL and its updates, as it wouldn't update all the way, so I had to keep relaunching the game for it to detect updates, close the game to install them, launch it to check...
Then don't buy it from Steam?
At least the box art looks pretty sweet.
people who say "gfwl isnt bad"
you are one of the lucky people who don't have any problems at all.
Once GTAIV was released, I couldn't play online for 6 months because of a bug with the update system. I reinstalled GTAIV, I reinstalled GFWL, I contacted Rockstar, I contacted Microsoft. Nothing ever worked. It wasn't until I reformatted my hardrive that it started working. That was six months after release and at that point I had lost interest.
When Dead Rising 2 was released (oh and I was fucking PUMPED for DR2, I absolutely LOVED DR1), the SAME THING happened. Same error and everything. I reformatted, but that didn't work this time. It was only recently I launched DR2 to realize that it had fixed itself. A number of months later.
Not to mention the server connection is EXTREMELY sub-par. Sure there are a few games that are okay, but most of the time you hit lag spikes and terrible hosts that wouldn't be required if it weren't for GFWL.
GFWL isn't that bad, I don't mind it. Either way, you can use the xlive.dll emulator "XLiveLess" for most games so you can play it offline, online functionality is disabled but if you just want to play single player a bit it's plenty of fun.
People overreacting too much about a simple program that has never been a bother to me or to others.

Fixed. Fecepunch always jumps on bandwagons.

According to Liongate, Microsoft themselves realize that GFWL needs some fixing.
also refer to my post. gfwl basically robbed like half the value of GTAIV and DR2 away from me.

I'm a little disappointed in their decision too. But Batman: AC will still be awesome regardless!

6 months? You realise you could have updated manually. I had the exact same bug and I did it manually.
GFWL isn't bad, stop whining.
Babies.
GFWL isn't that bad. I've had my fair share of problems with it, but my worst problem with it is that it doesn't keep your savegames uploaded on a cloud or anything. It's a pain in the ass that you have to manually back up your own saves. If you're on GFWL and you finish a big game like GTA IV or DR2, you'd have to manually back up your saves if you ever lost all that shit. I don't mind it, though.
Skynrdfan3, you can manually download updates for GTA IV. That's what I had to end up doing because I had a similar problem as you.
Also, GFWL was one of the reasons I upgraded from XP to 7 because compatibility with it is very thin nowadays. I'm sure you guys see that as a good thing, but XP had a great run for me until that.
I was unable to play Bioshock 2 for the first week due to GFWL. Really ruined the game for me.
Honestly, if you say GFWL isn't bad you judge that by your own experiences with it. If it worked flawlessly you were pretty lucky. I wasn't lucky, and therefore I think it's bad.
Seeing as I can't play games using GFWL, I won't buy this.
Steam isn't any different...
Steam is not half as bad as GFWL
i was going to get it for console anyway
oh well, bummer for all those getting it on pc
Are you fucking kidding me?
GFWL is the worst shit, after Vista, that Windows ever made. More and more companies realized that, like THQ (DoW2 Retribution). I guess Rocksteady didn't learn the lesson yet.
fuk you all i love gfwl
While I am not a fan of GFWL, it could be so much worse.
Fucking fuck fuck fucckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
Couldn't play Red Faction Guerrilla for ages because of GFWL

Rocksteady don't decide - Warner Bros. decided to use GFWL.
If Square Enix still had the publishing rights, it would've been with Steamworks.
Guess it won't be on Steam as there's the contract about Steam being the only distributor.
I don't think it's such a monstrous evil thing as everyone makes it to be, but I don't understand what's the use of it either, it's not like people actually use it in any way.
To people who keep saying GfWL isn't bad: you're incredibly ignorant. You're lucky to live in the approximately 26 countries or territories where GfWL is supported. No multiplayer, achievements and online support for the rest of the world.
Xbox Live is in the same situation. And MS tried to bring the Live "experience" to the PC via GfWL .

Sucks to be you then.
Well I know what I'm not going to buy now.
Maybe Batman Arkham City will be put on Steam. Remember GTA IV?
GFLW made GTA4 take forever just to get started. If its on steam it'll still have it, which is honestly god awfully useless. You can't even save without it, and if you don't have internet your screwed.
Steam at least lets us play offline.
