Saints Row 4 refused Australian classification. Again. Anal probes not the issue
I'm pretty sure Australia isn't full of pusses. It's just a group of bigshots going "Sorry, mates, but we can't letcha play this 'ere game. Is got blood innit!" and ruining the fun for everyone.
Or however video game rating classification works down under.
Obviously these scenes are pretty restricted to 18+ (but you know people under the age of 18 like me will still be able to get it)
I've seen movies and TV shows that have been rated either M or MA15+ show hardcore drug usage and there rating suggestion says "Strong Drug use". They really got to stop having this separate fucking policy, treat videogames the same as Television or Movies.
I'm sure as fuck a lot of TV stations wouldn't be too pleased if that was the case
Goddammit, Australian rating system, you created a new rating specifically to sort this type of bullshit out but nope, now I'm convinced you're just a buncha gormless slackers.
I'm surprised they haven't banned fun in Australia yet. Whats the deal with Aus's game classifications?
People who live 2 generations late trying to play moral guardians.
[editline]murdertime funtime[/editline]
Yeah totally, because the only way games can be fun is to glorify drug use.
Yeah because every single game Australia has ever banned always had drugs in them, and not just violence.
Because games that were getting released as 18+ in other countries were being released as MA15+ here until we got the R18+ rating. Having the R18+ rating ensures that certain games receive the rating that they should have.
Okay so here is the thing. If other countries actually release 18+ games (there's a plethora of them in France), how come you are such pansies you ban them outright ? Grow some balls.
We are, because glorifying drug use is stupid and until that is removed from the game it should be refused classification. I have no problem with the decision made.
Once again australia has banned a ton of games that had no drugs involved in them whatsoever. Dark Sector was banned because you could dismember people, NecroVision was banned for being "relentlessly violent" (aka you shoot a lot of zombies), and Silent Hill Homecoming was banned... because it's a horror game. Just to name a few.
I really want to see Volition challenge Australia's classification board on their refusal. There is worse content available in R18+ films than there was in Saints Row 3, I really doubt that Saints Row 4 is doing anything so entirely over the top to be refused so easily.
Not to mention the whole "R18+ is restricted to adults" thing.
We are, because glorifying drug use is stupid and until that is removed from the game it should be refused classification. I have no problem with the decision made.
it's a video game
if you wanna suddenly try drugs after playing a video game you're a fucking retard

They're called "alien narcotics" in game.
They make the fireballs you shoot from your hands more powerful.
If there was an actual drug like that, depicting it in a video game would be the least of anyone's worries.

Goddamn Mario is a more realistic drug abuser than that.
stupid austrailian politicians.
If you ban videogames for those reason, then why notban movies, comics, even news?
No, seriously, fuck you classification board. I hope you all fucking quit your job or die soon enough, I am sick and tired of gamers being treated like 10 year olds. Most of them are probably senile, religious, old men who have no idea how gaming actually works and who plays them.
Maybe if we try complaining via this forum we might be able to knock some sense in to them.

They won't. The only option they can do that is to take the matter to Federal Court, which is just not worth it.

I didnt even know there was a broomstick in SR3. It would have looked better if they took the time to make a separate animation for it instead of building the broomstick model around the motorcycle animation.
so are real drugs banned in australia like alcohol
so are real drugs banned in australia like alcohol
If Alcohol was banned there'd be a civil war
It is seriously an issue when in Australia I don't have the ability to allow myself to view mature content, that I'm paying for. Yet at any age I have the ability to go on the internet and watch humans murdering each other and raping people and sick shit like that for absolutely free.

Wasn't there a developer/publisher who effectively challenged the Australian Classification Board with an open letter a few years back, and they succeeded in getting the classification overturned with no changes made? Maybe I'm misremembering, but I'm very certain something like this happened.
Ironically, Dead Rising: Off The Record had no context and got passed, whilst Saints Row IV did have some context, and got banned.
Are the people rating games bi-polar or something?
They don't consider previous ratings when rating a new game (or movie, book, etc.), It's why L4D2 got censored because you could kill security guards, while GTA4 was allowed to have multiple missions where you kill police officers, etc.
Edit: The Witcher 2 was censored because one of the quests could end in a sex scene, this in a game that opens basically with a sex scene. It also implies that somehow sex is bad and people shouldn't be exposed to the idea of it.
I'm not saying I don't agree with drug use. My problem, and indeed the Classification Review Board's problem is this:
Replace drug use with alcohol or tabacco consumption and it would have still been banned anyways, and that would be justified.
Do tell me why that's such a problem, if a person wants to play a game with drugs that's none of anyone's business. The board's job is to inform people of what the game/movie/whatever contains so as to let the people do an informed decision when buying the game/movie/whatever, not to ban shit.
Not to mention, why are they now changing the reason for refusing classification? They should have specified all the problems they had with the game on the first review, not specify one and keep all the other's quiet so as to make it impossible for the devs to know what to fix, are they really that shit at doing their damn job?
Good thing I don't live in Australia...

I'm not sure. They can keep resubmitting the application for classification, but I don't see any reason why the ACB would change their opinion.
Anyway, the laws need to change - the criteria the members of the ACB are required to follow are ridiculous in this day and age.
I haven't been keeping up with Saints Row IV... but did they really remove the anal probe feature?
That sounds funny as fuck.

In the Aussie version, yeah.
what's the point of an r rating if you're going to treat it how you treated MA before and still not allow the same type of games you always didn't allow
quick PR boost
Donald McDonald... your brother Ronald would be disappointed in you.
well now every australian who wants to play it will now just pirate it or import it
good work screwing over local business!
I know, right? It really doesn't support being legal, are these classification makers even aware?
