I think you've missed the point of my post, it's not about whether or not you deem $15 a month worth it or not because that's completely subjective on a person to person basis. It's about people thinking that AN are making patches for free, they aren't. They just don't get the money to do it from subscription fees but instead people who purchase items from the cash shop.
Though it's pretty obvious why WoW takes in so much money, they've always had a large team working on development and they have actual support lines for each language - I doubt it's by any means cheap.
Nothing objectionable was mentioned, but I guess there's a shitstorm anyways. Guild Wars 2 has grown a strange hater-base that seems to follow it into any thread it goes to.

Not much out of the ordinary really for this section.
You have Chirno who's a WoW fanboy and general shitposter even in that thread.
And then you have Raidyr who argues against any game that is generally liked on FP and defends any one that is generally disliked no matter what it is.
well I can sympathize, considering some people are trying to use this announcement to denounce other mmos despite it being a pretty much genre wide normality.
If any of you had any experience with GW1, you'd know that they're not bluffing.
And the large-scale expansions he said, those will probably be like the Factions and Nightfall expansions from GW1. Each are stand-alone and are in the same world as every other purchase, I can't expect them to stray away from that in GW2. You guys need to learn to trust Arenanet. Even WoW didn't roll out with a super amazing endgame.
Looking forward to those updates :v:
I just find it dumb people praising arenanet for this.
How is this not already expected?
"Guys get this, we are doing FREE updates for our brand new MMO that just came out that doesnt have a monthly fee, you heard it here first, we are actually going to update our game"
Why is this news that a company is doing updates for a game, it doesnt matter what game.
If Valve made a press release saying, "Get this guys, Free CS:GO updates" it would be just as dumb.
We shouldnt be praising free updates, we should actually expect it.

And I find it dumb that people actually have such a big fucking issue with this. Who the hell cares?
I really fail to see how this is an actually issue. It's just so petty and stupid that it blows my mind. It's nitpicking at the most base and petty level.

It's not a subscription based game like WoW, they got most of their profit out of the original game sales and don't have any obligation to keep you in the game outside of the base content. If a game like Skyrim, which is also a pay-once-play-forever deal got large free content updates, it would be considered great news. WoW content isn't free, you pay for it through subscriptions.

I hate these people coming in and just thinking all they mean is that they'll be providing free patches or some shit. What this means is that they'll provide new dungeons, new maps, new missions, new PvP content, and more, for free. Basically small expansion packs but for free. Here is the fucking thread where this whole thing came from: https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/game/gw2/Guild-wars-2-content-update/
Here is the OP:
Greetings everyone,
I was wondering how many of you would be willing to purchase small expansion packs each month? I am only level 11 and I’m already worried about “finishing” the game too soon, please don’t hate me for writting that, but that’s just how I feel.
I think that arena net could introduce small content updates, like mounts, new events, quests, races etc… through the black lion trading company, you could buy certain single or a bunch of contents for gems. I woukdn’t mind paying 5-10 euros each month, to help the developer and the game and of course my interest to grow.
What are your opinions on this?
See you ingame, cheers
And here is the full response:

No need to buy them, Gw2 will feature consistent free content updates and in-game events going forward. Our goal is to make it so you get more from Gw2 for free than you get from a game you pay a subscription for.
On top of a large amount of free bonus content, we will be expanding on offerings in the Black Lion Trading Company going forward, as well as be doing large-scale expansion content down the road.
We’ll cover a lot of the details on the kind of support and plans we have in place over the next month or so on the Gw2 blog and with our press partners.
We do appreciate that you’d like to buy lots of new content, but we’d prefer to give a lot of it to you for free, cause that’s what we think a responsible MMO company does!
Half of this thread has been a carnival of stupidity and pointless hate bandwagoning.

Yes you caught me I'm actually an armchair game critic version of a Poe that goes out of my way to "defend" games the FP zeitgeist doesn't like and bash games that it does like.
Except for you know the part where I actually really enjoy Guild Wars 2 and just think their marketing is silly at times.

After reading your posts I think you're whining for the sake of whining. You're making yourself look stupid, or, if you're trying to troll, look like really bad troll.

yeah dude i dont know if you're trolling but if you are you're a really bad troll!!!!!
There have been a few rumors going around that Anet aren't going to come out with free updates. They're basically reassuring everyone that this isn't true. Everyone needs to chill the fuck out.

Yeah I agree it's weird how defensive people get when you simply state a content delivery system in one game is similar to existing MMO's. Like the amount of disagrees/dumbs on the front page given to people making objectively true statements is just insane. No one insulted the company or the game so I don't know why people are investing so much energy vigorously defending it. It just comes across as a weird news post in 2012 that an MMO is going to have free content updates.

You analysis fundamentally fails once you take into consideration I haven't actually whined about anything.
I mean, I guess yeah its stupid to even bring it up but the general perception of the thread at that point made it look as if people thought it was a new thing. I actually conceded it was a pointless point to make anyway about 3 days ago but I don't think you actually read the thread so whatevs.
