Is 500,000 sales good for this sort of thing?
I mean when they're making sort of a niche item I'd say it's not bad, per se.
Like, it's a PC-exclusive controller, which narrows its audience, and I think it's safe to say all PC gamers have some form of mouse and keyboard, which narrows that audience further.
The audience they've got is the one who want a controller for the PC, which has been taken up by 360 controllers for a while now due to native xinput support in a lot of games. I'd say half a million of those in this timespan with a pre-existing "this works so why switch" product already existing isn't bad. Not to mention they're trying out a new thing that isn't standard among controllers at all. Touchpads have never been a mainstream controller feature and that generates some "shit should I get this I dunno if it'll work" questioning among consumers.

Its pretty good considering they make this in their own little factory

Its a bit hard to compare since we don't know the sale figures of other controller peripherals
probably a dumb question, but there's nothing stopping a steam controller from being used with other games that you don't own through steam, right? diablo for example
Completed Borderlands 1, TPS and half of 2 with it, works really well

Add Diablo as a non-Steam game?

i'm upset that i didn't think of that, thank you

There is a configuration for desktop now so you can basically map anything you want for applications outside of steam.
You don't have to add it as a steam game. I used mine to play on a gba emulator.

Technically, you actually have to add Battle.net to Steam and run Diablo through that.
Also you have to make sure that Battle.net is completely closed before you run it through Steam else it will not work

It works if you just add the game executable actually, I never added Battle.net for it, same with Overwatch.
I can confirm you just have to add the executable, and in some cases add -launch to parameters and it will work fine
+1 to the good experiences with this controller list from me. Played all of Dark Souls 3 with it and it was really comfortable and didn't hold me back from the fast paced nature of the game at all after I got the controls down after half an hour or so.
Its great if you play a lot of a few games, but probably not if you play small amounts of lots of games. Reason being it can sometimes be a bitch to find a nice config for it.
Still can't buy it through Steam in New Zealand. Can order a Vive though.
the left trackpad isn't meant to be a stick replacement, it's meant to be a d-pad replacement. that's why there's the cross indent on it
not to mention the fact that there's an analog stick already on it
It's an absolute shit D-Pad.
Worse than the 360 controler D-Pad.

It's just way too stiff, especially if you want to use left and down while still keeping your thumb on the thumb stick. When I use it for Dark Souls I have the weapon swap buttons on the under-side paddle things instead because fuck the D-pad
I kinda like the design and most of the features it has but it's kinda expensive and I got an original wired 360 controller not more than a year ago and it works like charm with almost every game.

A system to change parts to your preference would be great, so far, the Steam Controler is absolutely useless for fighting games.

110% wrong. If you turn off the "click to activate" portion of the d-pad, you can simply roll your thumb and do a Hadouken in one simple motion, for instance. I've literally went from "0 to Hero" in pretty much any fighting game due to the Steam Controller.

Seriously, You haven't been using the Steam Controller's D-Pad correctly if you think it's dogshit. Especially if you think it's worse than a 360's.

I'm playing fighting games since over 16 years now and it feels as precise and useful for fighting games as using 2 analogue sticks.
It misses so much feedback in this regard since it's only a trackpad in the end,
that it's only truly enjoyable if you play the game with simplyfied controls and not with the default layout for combos and attacks.
I will give it another shot now that you mention the settings but so far, I haven't found any use for the Steam Controler in fighting games and I doubt that my opinion will change.
I don't think people realize how hard swapping parts out actually is
I hope that you can take it apart to swap parts though. Otherwise the controller would be physically weak as fuck.
It's VERY easy to take apart too. You'd have to be an idiot to break it while doing so.

then just set it to not click
I have the right trackpad set to swap to a d-pad when I use the right gripaddle, it's p. nice

the 360 dpad can't be programmed to use 10+ weapon slots, so, there is that

That's probably built in muscle memory. I very much thought that souls 2 was the one game it just wouldn't work for, but I forced my self through that.
This is my personal opinion but I played and beaten the old 8 bit MegaMan games on the steam controller with the d-pad. It felt great and those games are the type that usually need pixel perfect precision for stuff.
I just turned the click to activate off and made the dead zone really tiny and it played great and my thumb didn't hurt after a long time because of it.
