Anyway though, the reason they can't "shut it" is because of the mentality associated with large fandoms. While there exist other large fandoms such as the ones around Adventure Time and Spongebob, the reason why they're not nearly as outspoken has to do with the general public opinons of those fandoms. The fact that enjoying a little girl's television show is so unheard of leads to those who do it being ridiculed, which in turn forces those who do it to band together and form communities. From there we get a massive seemingly-unstoppable group of people, featuring a prominent [url=http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/VocalMinority]vocal minority[/url]. The same thing happened with the furry fandom, weaboos, touhou, etc. It's pretty much common knowledge that as something gets larger the quality gets harder to maintain, many once-amazing web communities such as Something Awful and Reddit have turned progressively more crap as they've grown. Even Facepunch has suffered some degradation of overall quality, although much lesser-so than other sites due to our strict policies (despite them being far stricter when I joined up). The simple fact is, though, that there will always be idiots, whether on the internet or in real life, and that idiots tend to band together and create giant balls of idiocy. Getting to the point, what I'm trying to say is that this sort of thing happens all the time. It's annoying, yes, but it's inevitable. If there were one single strongly-moderated hub of discussion for the entire fandom then the problem may not have occurred, but sadly that is not the case and pretty-much never is with these things. I understand how hard it is to ignore (although since being sucked in it's become pretty hard for me to sympathise directly), but in the long run it's best of you do. The furry fandom is mentioned negatively here anymore, and I remember whole pages of threads being de-railed over that in the past. This too shall pass, and it would happen more quickly if we would all shut the fuck up.
