Well, consoles being hassle-free are a result of their closed nature. What I think needs to happen, to make the hardware hurdles less intimidating and the performance assessment less intimidating, is modular computers. Computer components that are self-contained within cases that stick together like LEGO bricks and communicate through a set standardized buses and power links. To build a PC, you simply buy a PSU block, a GPU block, a CPU block and so on. Upgrading would be just a matter of swapping out a block. Each component would have a rating in the form of a performance index that is absolute, not relative.
you literally just described computers.

It'll always be relative to existing hardware. Why would making it easier to build a computer make people buy computer instead of consoles? Those that don't want to build one still won't, and those that want to will be angry about their limited customization.
It's not elitism though, he's pointing out the benefits PC has over consoles. It could be called propaganda because he isn't bringing up the bad sides of the PC and the good sides of the consoles, but that doesn't stop him from being right about what he says. Consoles are great for console-exclusive games and "plug-and-play" like gaming experience, usually with friends. But you could easily hook up two gamepads to your PC and connect the PC to the TV and get that same plug-and-play experience, meaning only the exclusive titles really makes consoles a truly viable solution now, for those that know it's possible. The things the consoles do the PC does as well, the only thing the PC can't beat is the exclusives, it isn't like it was 10 years ago where plugging your PC to the TV could be a big fucking hassle, and the PC had to be a giant stationary beast in order to run games properly. Consoles are inferior to the PC, but it's completely understandable that they appeal to a bigger range of audience because there is less of a hassle involved with them and you only pay one price for the console itself in order to play games smoothly enough for many many years to come.
The PC can beat the exclusives. Most indie games are PC exclusives.
The only reason why am i getting a console is for the console exclusives which with no doubt will live on in this new generation.

The only reason most of my friends continue to use a PS3 or XBOX is because A) they prefer a controller over keyboard and mouse and B) because nobody else plays on PC thing is, if you're looking to play ONLY big, blockbuster AAA titles, console is generally the way to go. I've been a PC gamer all my life, and yeah we get MMOs and cheap games and indie games, but if you're looking for the latest calladooty, get it on console.
The PC can beat the exclusives. Most indie games are PC exclusives.
That's not how it works nor what I meant. You don't beat the Xbox's exclusives by having your own exclusives, you still can't play the Xbox exclusives.
They make it sound like it's some kind of cult. Stop fucking pressuring people to be a PC gamer and stop belittling console gamers for fuck's sake.

I'd also argue that playing PC games is really good if your interest in games in general is fading. I'd also recommend giving First Person Shooters another try if you found them boring on consoles.
Remember when the PC was its own platform and got its own cool games now pc is just a better console ROTFLMAO
Remember when the PC was its own platform and got its own cool games now pc is just a better console ROTFLMAO
Yeah my gaming rig stopped working (power supply failure, too lazy to get a new one) and I must say I don't think a single game has come out in the last year to make me want to use it again.
Putting together a computer is surprisingly easy nowadays. All you need is an instruction manual (sometimes) and common sense. The hardest part is making sure everything is compatible, but that's what a nerd friend is for. I've been able to mock-build a computer for 400 that equals the power of the PS4.
Or maybe.. people can play videogames on what ever the fuck they want? And the whole get charged to play online thing doesn't apply to Playstation 3 so that only applies to the Xbox.

Good for people who can join them into one. My mobo doesn't have that so I had to do gymnastics 101 to plug them in.

My bro was pretty computer illiterate, but now he's pretty good at solving things on his own and doing computer matience.
