Heavy Rain's plot held up if you ignored the origami part where Ethan [sp]de-blacks out with it in his hand[/sp] and Fahrenheit had a deus ex machina of [sp]aliens[/sp] so that sorts itself out. Overall, I enjoy the games because I tend to play them when I'm not in the mood for a fast-paced dudeshooter. Beyond Two Souls is an exception to that though, because this game is overall trash. [editline]11th January 2014[/editline] That may be so, but Quake 2 and Crysis were both glorified tech demos, and nobody complained about them this much.
I can't honestly believe you'd enjoy something like this.
I don't own a PS so I watched a let's play of it (same experience, really) and I genuinely liked it
That may be so, but Quake 2 and Crysis were both glorified tech demos, and nobody complained about them this much.
Both Quake 2 and Crysis hold themselves on their own even without all the fancy tech. Quake 2 is a little generic but it's an overall solid game, while Crysis is a very fun game if you don't pay too much attention to the plot.
Whenever David Cage makes a game, it always starts out with potential and always ends up crapping itself and having a bunch of stupid moments. David Cage needs an editor.
I love Indigo Prophecy precisely because of how retarded it got.
I liked this game v:v:v
Heavy Rain's plot really, really doesn't hold up once you realize that the big reveal doesn't even begin to make sense, and every scene that the female protagonist is in is a DIFFERENT rape fantasy, it kinda makes it clear that David had no idea how to write a mystery or a female character for that matter. That being said, while I absolutely hate Indigo Prophecy and Beyond, I actually kinda like Heavy Rain, it's at least fun and that parts that David gets right are actually interesting, but the whole thing doesn't hold up at all.
and every scene that the female protagonist is in is a DIFFERENT rape fantasy,
It's really kind of unsettling how he constantly puts both her and Jodie in creepy rape scenarios that 90% of the time have absolutely no relevance to anything else in the game whatsoever and are never put into context or mentioned at all ever again.
Did Jodie ever start flying and doing magic kung-fu/Energy beams at ghosts?
Why does everyone calls Cage's movies games?
Well, this is the only ps3 game I know which got 50% discount in most of the shops (at least in Russia) almost immediately after release so 1 million sales is not that surprising.
And if they didn't stop Cage from adding magic stuff into Heavy Rain that game would be utter shit, too.
I feel like everyone who genuinely likes Indigo Prophecy really needs to go back and play it. Yeah, the first scene is amazing, but the game entirely crumbles right afterwards.
I genuinely like it because to me, the game can be interpreted about a mans descent into madness. I'm not saying it's good, but it's hilarious. Like 30 seconds onwards. [editline]11th January 2014[/editline]
And if they didn't stop Cage from adding magic stuff into Heavy Rain that game would be utter shit, too.
It would actually be better if they kept the paranormal things in. That would have cleared up a lot of plot twists and would have made the game a better mystery rather than just suddenly shitting out the bed at the end and being like FLASHBACK TIME.
And if they didn't stop Cage from adding magic stuff into Heavy Rain that game would be utter shit, too.
IE: Ethan and Shelby have a psychic link.
IE: Ethan and Shelby have a psychic link.
I think that was a ditched part of the script. Either that or they just forgot to mention it.
They ditched it because it was either leave more massive plotholes in, or go the route of Indigo Prophecy.
They ditched it because it was either leave more massive plotholes in, or go the route of Indigo Prophecy.
Those are pretty much one in the same.
No it doesn't, but it's nice to have variety and unconventional ideas, even if they don't end up working.
It didn't work the last two times either.
That may be so, but Quake 2 and Crysis were both glorified tech demos, and nobody complained about them this much.
Actually, Quake 2 was bemoaned for the rather simple color pallete it had. Crysis, the entire running joke about the, 'But can it run Crysis' was about just how poorly optimized the original Crysis was. The original Crytek engine, was ass when it came to optimizations. It did textures in these strange ways the made loading them even more difficult for GPUs and CPUs. I'm surprised no one remembers this, also everyone hates the flying part at the end of the game. Everyone.
Flying part at the end of the game? I don't remember that at all.
Where you flew between the mountains and shit. Right before the last level.
I thought Indigo Prophecy had a great thriller thing going for it then [sp]BAM MAYAN SNAKE GOD[/sp]. Seriously, how do you transition with that
i still don't get why they decided to throw in [sp]spooky native american ghosts and the chinese[/sp] into the game.
All in all looking at this thread
I really felt the games plot fell apart when I was fighting the giant ghost eel in the underwater chinese ghost base

I thought Indigo Prophecy had a great thriller thing going for it then [sp]BAM MAYAN SNAKE GOD[/sp]. So Beyond ain't worth buying cheap?
Heavy Rain's plot really, really doesn't hold up once you realize that the big reveal doesn't even begin to make sense, and every scene that the female protagonist is in is a DIFFERENT rape fantasy, it kinda makes it clear that David had no idea how to write a mystery or a female character for that matter.
David Cage is a huge creep when it comes to women. Every single fucking game has a nude shower scene in it, the girl in Heavy Rain has a ninja fight in her panties for no fucking reason (what is this a JRPG), and Ellen Page almost gets raped constantly. For a guy who wants to be known for great writing, the quality of the writing is dog shit, and so bursting with holes in logic and reason that if you set any of his games out to sea it'd sink in an instant. In Heavy Rain, the beginning sequence is so ridiculously fucking saccharine it's hilarious, and I can barely swallow the rest of the game after. In Beyond Two Souls, the entire game is "OMG LOOK HOW MEAN THE WHOLE WORLD IS TO ELLEN PAGE ;-;" but it's ridiculously heavy-handed. Rather than feeling like a character is going through struggles, and discrimination, it feels like she gets harassed because David Cage wanted that to happen, so he could brute force us into sympathizing with her, and also live out his creepy awkward Ellen Page fantasy. There's a scene where Ellen Page walks into a bar and the only customers in it are two dudes. As soon as I fuckin' saw them I was like "They are going to attempt to rape Ellen Page before this scene is over." Lo and fuckin' behold, they try to rape her because all the world's suffering is suffered by Ellen Page, you guys. Also his games have demonized the mentally ill, and there was a big scene in Beyond Two Souls about a completely unrelated, out of nowhere story with Native Americans, who are Navajos because of course they fucking are, and as I understand it that scene is really stereotypical and racist. And don't even get me started on that Mayan bullshit. If you want story innovation, look to The Walking Dead, by Telltale, or Hotline Miami, or fucking anything but David Cage games. Debate whether these games are really games or just really long movies where you have to fiddle with a funny shaped tv remote now and again all you want. Maybe one side is true, maybe one isn't. But I think one thing that's undebatable is that David Cage certainly wishes his games were movies. His entire career has been one long quest to make a game that's as good as a movie. His games are written like movies and seem very obviously similar to them. But games don't need to try to be like movies, just like movies don't need to try to be like books, and books don't need to try to be like music. They're fine on their own, and they work in their own ways. The Walking Dead, Hotline Miami, Portal, and Papers, Please have all shown us that you can make a story just as compelling as any movie, that's completely separate from movies in every shape or form. The fact that we're trying to ape movies seems to show a bit of a self esteem problem, one we really need to get over if we want gaming as a medium to be taken seriously.
anyone remember that scene when [sp]jodie and asshole boyfriend guy disguised themselves as chinese soldiers, but didn't even THINK about bringing their asian squadmate with them[/sp]? yeah. that was my favorite scene.
This sums up one of the big problems with the game. Skip to 9:30 for what I mean. Worried about spoiling the game's story for yourself by watching it out of order? Well, that's the point of the video. The game itself is told out of order, which could work, but it doesn't here, and has nothing to do with the story in the first place. The game doesn't gain anything from being told out of order, the story has nothing to do with the passage of time or memories or whatever, it only makes you lose track of what's going on. It tries to pull "it's told out of order so it's art" in order to keep you from realizing how shitty the story is.
also let's not forget that david cage is super racist
