You don't really feel the futureness of ARMA III's setting when you play it, all weapons except the MX series of rifles are based on current-day stuff, and almost all vehicles are too.
I know that it's based on current-day things, I have the game and I have played it -- I know how it feels in terms of atmosphere. it still feels generic and futuristic. I much prefer Chernarus/Takistan because of their better atmosphere (opinion) and relevance to current conflicts
it just feels a lot less immersive and interesting to me

I do dislike the return to island-based maps, personally. Just-.. Why would two greek islands have so much strategic importance on a modern theather of war; enough to warrant full-scaled armored invasion from both sides, instead of just like, a quick secure-airports-and-seaports-for-supply-lines op.
It always puzzled me why they spend so much money on a game less people care about, rather than the standalone of a mod 9/10ths of the playerbase bought the original game for...
the next half life game should just be a building game because a lot of players bought it just to play garry's mod.
much like in real life
you know
the thing arma tries to emulate
It's more colourful where I live. The islands they chose have boring terrain colours.
You people are forgetting that this time arma isn't as unfinished basic gameplay and enginewise like Arma 2.
The improvements over 2 and OA are immense, it seems like all that desire to polish is just not fitting into the deadline.
The XM25 got cut, along with the railgun tank
Mad as hell.
The XM25 got cut, along with the railgun tank

From the tank gameplay posted in the one-hour video, seems like they kept the tank, but scrapped the railgun for a traditional one. Any source on XM-25 getting scrapped? 'cause that list seems incomplete as fuck to me, no F-35 either.
[sp]Maybe BiS didn't have the money to program the F-35...[/sp]
Yeah the railgun tank is just a traditional tank. So the only unique thing about this 2035 setting is the opfor helmets. They could have done so much more with the setting but the "omg where are the m4s and aks???" crowd put a stop to that.
And the list on the website has been confirmed by the devs to be the final release content list.

Wait, what? No fixed wings for OPFOR or BLUFOR at all?
Wait, what? No fixed wings for OPFOR or BLUFOR at all?
There is 1 jet in the game that is at least for the independants, as for OPFOR or BLUFOR it is unknown if they will get a reskinned version of it. It is possible they won't get one at all (at release).
As a disclaimer though, they devs have said that it is very very likely that more content will come with the campaign patches, the first one being a month after release.
I allready said this in the Arma thread, but it kinda makes sense to give indie an old CAS support jet. BLUFOR and OPFOR both seem to use drones, which in the future will dominate air support. Since they wanted to model the Independent faction after a military like Maltas that isn't exactly rich and up to date with technology. Only logical option is to give them some kind of CAS jet.
I personally would love to see more jets, but dogfighting is the smallest and least important spectrum off combat in the arma series and drones fit into the future scenario.

Just seems strange to me that the planned F-35 got cut from the list. They already had the friggin' model ready to lift straight off ARMA II, complete with VTOL animations and all.
Eh, seems like I've to depend on the modding community for good content.
Some guy made some fucking detailed apache for arma 2

Seems like the wrong choice to me. That way, there'll be no 'standard' set of vehicles for mission-makers to use, so if you want to release a ground-attack or dogfight mission or whatever, you'll have to bundle it together with the mods needed.

wtf
they flew it around in one of the early presentation videos iirc.
Not sure if the GREENFOR stuff is cut, or just never was there. BiS always were lazy fucks when it came to the independent side, right back from the RACS having no tanks, no fighters, no attack helos; only Blackhawks and M113s.
To be fair, BLUFOR and OPFOR have always been the main focus of the series. GREENFOR has always really been mostly a small supplement force.
Also, just fired up ArmA: Armed Assault right after playing ARMA III beta. Jesus Christ, this was my favourite game once? You can't even walk and reload at the same time! :v:
Honestly, I don't care too much about the content purely because of the improvements to the gameplay in ArmA3 compared to previous titles. Hell, I'm perfectly content to play ArmA3 with All-in-ArmA, which gives the extensive content of ArmA2 but in the much improved engine of ArmA3.
I think a lot of of people don't realise that while arma2 had more content on launch, that content also took less time to develop.
ARMA3's content undoubtedly takes more time to make with the higher quality standard they have to adher to.
But I'll agree the amount of content is a bit meagre, even if I always expected it to be less than ARMA2.

why not, you know, delay it?
Instead of releasing an unfinished game that runs badly.

But it doesn't run badly. It's about as optimized as it can get for just how much shit is being worked at all times.

They would miss a lot of revenue if they delay it past Q3

Pretty sure they already have a ton of sales, though; based on just how many play the Beta.

They probably know something you don't.
They probably know something you don't.
Indeed, the holiday sales account for a massive amount of the yearly revenue, releasing around there is probably the best thing you could do :v:

It doesn't run badly? Perhaps you should just stop expecting everything to run on max settings in every game?
Also uh because BI are a company that need to survive? Delaying a game over and over again will just screw them over.

Multiplayer is noticably lower in fps but this is mostly caused by poorly made missions and server owners skimping on buying a good server.
A good server and a well made mission can do wonders for MP fps
^This, very this. The missions that come with the game run fantastic.
I wonder how the whole Greece prison fiasco affected development
So glad they at least cut the rail-gun tank, The larger map looks pretty awesome too. Probably still gonna use All In Arma to be able to use A2 units and weapons. Then wait for all the good mods to come out.

They should've kept the railgun tank for the editor.
