Because it relies on being decentralized, but in the current distribution less then 10 people control 95% of the hashing power, and more then 50% of the hashing power is behind the Chinese firewall.
Not only that but mining operations consume massive amounts of energy and generate massive amounts of E-waste. Environmentally speaking they really are not all that green and as it gets harder to process hashes the carbon footprint gets bigger.
