If they were really forced by retail to exclude Ranger mode, I'd expect that they patch it in for everyone in a few months, because that's the point when retail stops giving a shit about your game and dumps it in the sales bin.
No, it was not free, it was paid on xbox 360, and much, much later released for free for PC.
Much, much later being just slightly more than a month. Also XBL is a piece of shit that forces devs to set a price on their DLC because MS wants the cut, I couldn't care less what happens there. Fact is, it was free on PC and was absolutely not day 1 DLC removed from the game with the sole intent of yanking more pre-orders from the customers. [editline]12th May 2013[/editline]
It's okay, dude. Have a winner for not being a stupid shit who complains about the fact that Last Light is being released the exact same way that everyone was fine with in 2033.
You might want to double check the stuff you say when you start calling others stupid, you might end up looking silly one day.
Pre-ordering to get hats and skins and more otherwise useless extras for a game is fine, but an entire difficulty mode? Bollocks. It's like saying "hey, the only way to increase replay value for this game is to pre-order". Sure, it makes sense that it'll be hardcore fans pre-ordering, but what about those who aren't hardcore fans yet?
Preorder=1 RangerMode=1 Preorder=0 Rangermode=0 What a way to develop and sell games. Why is DeepSilver even concerned? If that's the way Retail is going to be, tell them to fuck off and die. Surely there's enough Digital Distribution clients that don't make you do that out there, and it saves a fuck ton of money on physical copies and shipping costs anyway If that was me, I'd tell them No, we're not selling it there then. I just have too much integrity to shaft customers who enjoy the same hobby as I do like that. Telling them no is going to save money, and your reputation anyway

This isn't all about the PC players.
Because they weren't forced to choose Ranger Mode specifically. They needed a retailer preorder incentive, and chose the worst thing possible to turn into that incentive. Zoom out and look at this from the consumer's perspective: a difficulty mode is behind a paywall.
Would you rather a section of the game be taken out for it to be a pre-order exclusive or have some dials turned?
Would you rather a section of the game be taken out for it to be a pre-order exclusive or have some dials turned?
if you can give me some concrete proof that developers are LITERALLY removing content to market as content. before release, there are long periods of time where the game is pretty much done, but not out yet. like right now with metro. is there something wrong with making post-release content during that free time? would it REALLY make a difference if they made it after an arbitrary date? i've also mentioned this issue in another metro thread, but there's also justification behind on-disk DLC. it costs a metric fuckton to release a patch on xbl (not sure about psn, probably less expensive. steam is free iirc.) so, the publisher and developer are going to utilize unused disk space to store that content. this way they can sell the content without having to pay a lot to issue out big patches over xbl and shit, and pretty much eliminate lengthy download times. tl;dr im a big fat dumby that likes dlc

It's stupid, yeah, but if it's the price the company (Which obviously doesn't want it this way) has to pay, then hey, it's better than an exclusive or something. Everything can't be TF2 hats any more.
