I'm surprised I don't hear MORE about the theory that HL3 will be hat heaven
Yeah its kind of surprising. I dont think it will be though, Portal 2 wasnt. Even if it does, as long as the game itself doesnt suffer as a result, i think i'd be fine with it.
You CUT OUT THE ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION. Oh my goodness gracious, pal. [editline]22nd February 2016[/editline] Also, again.
It's not spam if it's different people holding the same opinion. Wanna know what I would consider spam? Your 20+ posts in the past 3 hours arguing the exact same point over and over.

[editline]22nd February 2016[/editline] When discussion is drowned out by droning, comical levels of absolutely dumb pessimism, theres a problem and it should be pointed out. Im pointing it out.

Well, isn't it considerable that Valves lack of PR concerning their products is troubling to some people? If someone has been burned by the 10+ "HL3 LEAK"s over the course of 9 years, wouldn't it be within reason to not trust the 11th leak? I mean I love valve but I can completely understand where those people are coming from. I can even understand where you two are coming from. But outright silencing those people for how the truly feel about the situation; is just bad. Sorry to say but just because you feel right, doesn't mean you are right. There is no "right" or "wrong" in this situation. Unlike you, the people writing those comments aren't perusing every single post to look for someone disagreeing/agreeing with them. They just come into the thread, read what is given and then post how they feel. They aren't "Saudi Princes" trying to scam you out of your hard earned money. They are people with opinions that have been formed just like your own. I personally have learned to disregard "Leaks" of half life information because so far they have all lead to disappointment. You so far have absolutely nothing in terms of proof that pertains to HL3 actually coming out as a retail, purchasable game. Same with L4D3. You may personally have a hunch that makes you feel adamant about the games current standing, but that hunch has no base in reality.
Well, we do have actual assets and code, some of which literally could only have existed since the middle of last year. That's a lot better than "My feelings were hurt because Half-Life 3 didn't come out yet!"
Well, isn't it considerable that Valves lack of PR concerning their products is troubling to some people?
Then vent about that.
If someone has been burned by the 10+ "HL3 LEAK"s over the course of 9 years, wouldn't it be within reason to not trust the 11th leak?
Most of those leaks arent leaks, just wild speculation. These are some of the few actual legitimate leaks, and are especially notable due to being from Valve themselves.
I mean I love valve but I can completely understand where those people are coming from. I can even understand where you two are coming from. Right: "Hey i feel a thing" Wrong: "Fucking nothing again thanks Volvo go kill yourselves" Take a swing at which one you'll see more frequently. No, i dont, but i do, because it keeps happening. In EVERY THREAD.
They are "Saudi Princes" trying to scam you out of your hard earned money.
You so far have absolutely nothing in terms of proof that pertains to HL3 actually coming out as a retail, purchasable game.
I assume we will just have to wait and see.
Dude theres assets from those games which we found TODAY. How in any way is that not having a basis in reality.
wall of supressed anger
I feel a strong sense of anger deep within you. I have not seen anyone in these threads say "Fucking nothing again thanks Volvo (what?) go kill yourselves" Your twisting of the situation to fit your narrative is quite troubling, seeing how minuscule this entire situation actually is. We're talking about video games here my friend. Calm down.
I feel a strong sense of anger deep within you.
Why do you assume im angry because i speak my mind?
I have not seen anyone in these threads say "Fucking nothing again thanks Volvo (what?) go kill yourselves"
Well i guess my attempt at comedic hyperbole went over your head.
Why do you assume im angry because i speak my mind? Well i guess my attempt at comedic hyperbole went over your head. What?
With the tone of your posts and using bolded red letters to get across how adamantly angry you are over the situation, I can only assume you are quite heated. There was no comedic timing in your post so why even bring comedy up? You attempted to twist the views of the people you are lambasting to make them look like rage-induced children; which quite frankly is how you're conducting yourself right now. I'm just gonna leave this here since we've absolutely destroyed this thread.

Not really, to be honest even if i did exaggerate it, its pretty accurate to how it actually is. [editline]22nd February 2016[/editline] Why were you following me around the forum and counting my posts.
rip thread anyways this is pretty cool, won't get hyped just in case, but still, pretty cool
I dont think it will be though, Portal 2 wasnt.
Valve still couldn't resist putting in some form of micro-transaction costume store in though, even though it was an epic fail.
you'll buy it anyways and you know it
ill have to buy coffins in the future too not excited about it though
Not when they fill up every thread about the game or company with the same drivel, time after time after time, like spam. Its not okay.
I mean like every other post or so in this thread or the other thread about this is you being optimistic. I don't see how people expressing their pessimism is anything worse other than the fact that there's more of them.
Damn, thread on fire. Regardless, Ill join the others and get hyped when valve releases an actual statement about their intentions with the half life titles. Until then, let rumors be rumors, leaks be leaks. Its nothing more and nothing less, and it sure wont get anyone anywhere to get worked up over anything less than an official statement from the developers. Not anymore atleast.
Of all the content in the valvetime thread, I think I like the vr_prefab_spawn_test, emily_testdemo_room_2, and vr_platform_shooter maps. The prefab spawn test shows a detailed vista scene loaded instantly. If this is leading where I think, this could mean incredible performance or load times for scenes. Imagine playing HL2 without loading screens! The emily_testdemo shows this strange morphing at [0:17] where a door and ledge to appear out of a wall. It stumps me how this was done. Is a model just being pushed through? Are there bones attached to the wall mesh? If the bones stretch the mesh, how are those ballasters added? vr_platform shooter seems visually the farthest along (still not up to par with current engines though). Dynamic shadows, normalmaps, specular, and some kind of road system which I am very curious about how they did. I suppose it could be done with decals, but I want to believe they have some kind of road tool for hammer 2. Nice looking sky, too. Last time I checked, the Dota 2 Source 2 tools didn't even have a skybox. I'm looking forward to seeing what they have to show at GDC. Do we know what they are going to be presenting yet?

Oh man, imo the FPS genre is just crying for certain VR-things. Like, more intuitive leaning and checking around corners (even if the player is only sitting, it could track your upper-body and head movement.) And, shooting your gun / throwing objects more intuitively (like blind-firing over your shoulder at whim.) Also, inspecting your own view-model of the gun more intuitively (like seen in a few demos.) Things like that would add quite a lot of new depth to FPS games, that I believe could be easily created using the VR techmology. In HL-related titles just as well, like the types of L4D or Insurgency or TTT, anything goes really.

HOPEFULLY use the wastes that we see during the teleportation segment of hl2 in the beginning and heard about from the original leaked beta [editline]23rd February 2016[/editline]
Oh man, imo the FPS genre is just crying for certain VR-things. In HL-related titles just as well, like the types of L4D or Insurgency or TTT, anything goes really.
the fps genre is stale as shit tbh. Well, mostly at least. Most FPS games to me are very "Oh, another shooter, good" *skips* I mean yeah, I love shooters. I love fallout 3/4, serious sam1/3, max payne, gta5, all types of gun games. But there are SO MANY SHOOTERS. As amazing as the genre is there's too much of the same. You can only play so many "badass military soldier dude" games before you're completely bored. VR is like, the perfect thing to make it fresh again in full. Enemy there, here, and over there. It'd be much funner to actually physically move your gun then snap your mouse and, by pure muscle memory, already have killed them. The difference between a mouse or joystick, and even merely aiming with a gyro, for me, makes FPS much funner. A gyro isn't even close to full positional tracking yet its still a lot nicer than using a mouse or joystick, so shooting with an actual "Gun" would be absolutely fantastic.
You're talking as if Source has never had these things before. :v:
Well yeah. I meant that compared to the rest of the leaked content in this batch. In order to fire, you could shoot from a bench, or lie prone on the ground. The VR could make it really immersive for such a simple game. Make it so after you fire, you rack the bolt back and eject the casing, manually place a new round in with the controller, and close the bolt for another go.
I'm looking forward to seeing what they have to show at GDC. Do we know what they are going to be presenting yet?
No, they have yet to register any sessions. Alex Vlachos said he's 99% sure he's going to hold part 2 of his VR rendering talk, but otherwise nothing so far.
Do you have the link to the GDC schedule for that talk?
There's no schedule. As I said they have yet to register anything. Vlachos only said (on twitter) he's 99% sure he's going to do it. That was maybe 2 weeks ago.
I know I'm late but for the whole "Halflife 3 confirmed! Halflife 3 unconfirmed!" thing I always take the stance of "It isn't real until it's real." A model doesn't mean anything, it's just a model. A level doesn't mean anything, it's just a level. An entire game being made doesn't actually mean anything, plenty of near finished games were scrapped. Battlefront 3 just needed optimisation and bug fixing, it was still scrapped. Star Wars 1313 was almost finished and it was shown off multiple times before Disney bought LucasArts and shut everything down. Even Halflife 2 was delayed a year thanks to the beta getting leaked. Until a game is available to play, until it exists, it doesn't exist.
you'll buy it anyways and you know it
At the eventual sale...
That wasnt debunked, it was just a very limited version of the Orange Box that was essentially pointless. A new Black Box with HL3 and L4D3 and something else would be incredible though.
TF2 Matchmaking, obviously.
Do you have the link to the GDC schedule for that talk?
got put up today: http://schedule.gdconf.com/session/advanced-vr-rendering-performance
