Guess what, 1 pixel on 800x600 on 15' is 2 pixel on 1600x1200 on 15'. Retina is no different than regular LCD. It is just name made up by Apple to boost sales. [editline]12th June 2012[/editline] Just because 4 pixels is fit on "1" doesn't make it any special does it
it's still 800x600 in terms of element size, the point is you won'y see pixels anymore. Way better looking text and rounded edges for example.
.
Apple patents Retina Display support and resolution of 2880 x 1800. and nobody can set their computer's price at $2,199 nor within 20 dollars of that price range or else they are infringing on their copyright.
show us then

15.6-inch diagonal Full HD Anti-glare LED-backlit Display (1920 x 1080) +$150.00
Laptop customization from HP's website. I don't have an account at an image upload site so if you don't believe me, google it. It is actually a better display because not only does it have the same PPI as the retina but also it is an LED display. Apple doesn't sell computers, they sell flashy gimmicks.
That's not a Retina Display.
While i was downtown yesterday my friend dragged me into the apple store. Recently i've taken a more neutral approach towards apple within the last year and a half and i must say i was rather impressed by their wares and products after trying them out first hand. There was an older black associate who immediately noticed we were fresh fish in salt water, we knew the tech but were foreign to apple. He chatted us up and it was rather nice, he explained how he used to work at IBM and was a lifelong pc man. After retiring he fell in love with apple as they were all very nice and very simplistic, incredibly user friendly to boot. He got a job at the apple store just to get some money on the side while remaining in the tech field. We all came to the conclusion that apple products are incredibly nice while apple is incredibly cut throat. We like their products but hate their business ethnics: selling computers for an easy $500 more than they need to be. I just bought myself a sager laptop for almost $1300 that will blow this macbook out of the water when it comes to games. If Apple would just sell their products at even a slightly cheaper rate; i would have gladly bought a mac book.

I love it when Apple haters try to ignore things like this display. Sure they can sell overpriced things and sue a lot of people but you can't deny that that Retina display is awesome and the future.

The staff in their stores has to be some of the friendliest I've ever met. My dad was in America 2 months ago and walked into an apple store right when this old lady came in with her ipad, a gift from her children, because she didn't know how to work it. Out comes this guy with a massive red mohawk who takes her over to a table and sits down with her to show her how the thing works. Eventually she went 'oh, i'm not bothering you or taking up too much of your time, am I'. The guy looked at his watch and said 'well, my shift's till 9 so unless this is going to take until past 9, not in the slightest'.
The macbook pros are really nice, now more than ever (sorry I'm just a sucker for that ridiculous fucking screen, it's what's making me lust after the iPad 3). Shame about the price which seems to be more than the gross national product of chad

Caveat is they're obscenely expensive, but if you have a lot of disposable income they're really lovely [editline]12th June 2012[/editline] 'Retina Display' is an even more contemptible marketing term than 'HD' though, but I guess they need a way to make incremental display improvements appeal to the masses.

Still, it's an IPS Retina Display. Most laptops, even for 2k$ have crappy TN panels up to a max. of 1920x1080...... If you have the money then get that Mac it's freaking awesome

Or just wait until another decent company spits out a fairly priced & great 17" lappy.
2880 x 1800
Wow

Seriously, I would be okay with that laptop if it was half of the current price.
Had this not the price of an entire bank vault and also be an apple product, I would fucking spend my entire life savings on this fuck college, have you seen that resolution
Once they will stop to put such high prices on this range of products. Seriously, I would be okay with that laptop if it was half of the current price.
um do you really think literally anybody would be able to sell that laptop for half it's price and profit?

It's still "only" a 170PPI, but saying that stuff isn't "retina" is bullshit, since it doesn't even have a definition. Stand a bit further from your display, bam, your display is "retina". Not saying this isn't cool, but we have been "close" to "retina" displays, but going over 1080p hasn't been a possibility really, due to Windows 7. And we all know that it isn't Apple manufacturing these displays, so they have to come from somewhere, and as such the reason for why they haven't been used so far in Premium laptops like the Vaio Z, is probably not because they haven't been available till the very moment Apple ordered them.

.
That's still different. With the Vaio Z you are getting extra screen real estate, but Apple's "retina" means that you're getting the same real estate, only with more detail.
Nah, that's just DPI scaling, and that's my point about windows 7. Without proper scaling, it won't make sense producing higher density panels. You wouldn't be able to see shit. "Retina" might work like that, but it's really just to say that you can't see the pixels, and that's independent of DPI scaling.
I remember Retina like displays used to be bad. When the Vaio Z released its 13 inch 1080p (which is not retina at all, but pretty close with 170 ppi) variant people complained about things being too small in the reviews on the website.

Yes, the Retina displays have twice the DPI scaling as the non-Retina displays, so elements are the same size side-by-side but things like text look muuuch better
