A 480Hz gaming display supposedly shows up in the wild
I will be surprised if people can tell the difference between 240 and 480 hz.
People whom play competitively may not be able to see the difference, but the person they just headshot or just-frame interrupted into a 50% combo on the other side of the aisle probably has an opinion on the subject.

Why would people dismiss progress in display tech?
Facepunch has a very rich and lore-deep history of shitting all over anything they can't afford as trivial and gimmicky and worthless.
I don't even the notice the difference between 60hz and 120hz outside of testufo.com, I'd rather the focus was on other aspects of monitors.
You need a monitor that goes above 60hz to see that, and to have it set to the proper rate

Personally I can afford it, I just don't really care for it because I don't really play the types of games that support of benefit from it
For VR though, 1000hz is the way to go tbh
I remember reading somewhere that 285Hz is when a vast majority of people cannot see a light flashing on and off. 240-280Hz is probably the highest consumer monitors will ever need to go imo. 480Hz is overkill and goes far into the point of diminishing returns.
My electron flashgun (photography flash) can make flashes that are as quick as 1/40 000'th of a second - and you sure as fuck notice it :v:
You can notice flashes of light at ANY speed, as long as there is enough of it reaching your retinas.
I don't mean to be that "human eyes can't see above 30 fps" kind of guy but c'mon, how much further past 240Hz is really worth it?
Once you get to close to 144hz the visible difference is dick all, but the response and feeling between your mouse and what you see is noticeable
Other than for osu! and CSGO or fast paced shooters, I just dont really see the need for this high refresh rate panels.
Then again the higher the refresh rate, the smoother the experience. Though at some point I think the effect of increasing the hertz will make it so there is no difference at some point.
