They're doing full motion and performance capture though, so you need decent actors for that, not just voice actors.

I'm not too convinced by the voice acting or by the dialogue but here's hoping that it's good anyway. The final audio quality seems kinda shoddy though.
Reminds me of the voice cast for Free Space II, it was fairly big in it's day.
the other part of the reason is exactly what's happening here, big name hollywood actors are being signed on and replacing them, leaving dedicated VAs with no jobs.
I wouldn't worry about this becoming the norm. This is a special case in that backers specifically paid for an all-star cast. It is only happening because backers fronted the money for it. But there's no way hiring big names to replace VAs is going to be a viable solution for VAs going on strike, it'd be way cheaper for studios to just pay the VAs what they're asking for.
because they are actors not voice actors.
what.

That's not something that is actually happening. Sometimes hollywood actors work on videogames. Sometimes voice actors do live action work. Sometimes theater actors do movies. Nobody is "leaving dedicated VAs with no jobs."
I don't know where you got this idea that each realm of acting is somehow mutually exclusive with every other realm.

What the hell are you talking about
That's so elitist sounding. Voice actors' talents are in their range of playing different voices. These actors are only playing a single character each.
Not necessarily, there's two types of voice actors, ones who can do a wide range of voices and ones who can get away with their normal voice due to the amount of little things they can add to it.

Eugh, they're doing the whole digitizing the actors thing. It always looks off-putting and distracting.
It really only reminds me that I'm listening to a to fake and unnatural looking Gary Oldman.
This giant tech demo called "Star Citizen" sure looks pretty. It'd be awesome if there was a game of it
At least come up with something original next time you want to make an epic zinger.
Sure fine but to me it just seems like they're spending a shitload of cash on relatively pointless assets
They're spending it exactly where they said they'd spend it.
Maybe I'm just a negative asshole but I just see this as a waste of money, sure, they have a lot of it but come on now.
Except maybe Hamill, for obvious reasons.
I see it as a bit of a waste too.
Or, it's not waste if they would have ended up with shitty voices in their game otherwise, but it can't be that hard to get good voices in your game if you just give them good lines to work with, and have a good voice&sound director..

While also fully realizing this..
