no update for today, but let's make shit interesting for the imminent 'proof' reveal by team billy place ur bets what these 'signed affidavits' are going to be claiming: Rate agree: Those aren't the right tapes. Rate disagree: Those aren't the right tapes and DWAYNE RICHARD must've made these fake ones!!! Rate funny: Billy did indeed play on MAME, but had no idea!!! Bonus points if they throw someone else under the bus for wrong set-up since Billy loves to claim he's tech illiterate. Rate late: Simply a bunch of claims that they saw Billy play the 1.062 score on arcade at Boomers, and maybe the other scores as well, and nothing more. The most boring option. I'm bettin they embarrass themselves to no end and try to throw dwayne under the bus again.
Well, whatever the outcome you know it's gonna be hilariously stupid.
whatever the outcome i hope we hear something about ApolloLegend soon i worry for that lad
Man, what a read, I've subbed to this thread to get all the latest ~drama~ from this thing, thanks for compiling all the info postal. That Bh_ dude did some great visualization simulations on how the proper arcade loads stuff.
Team Billy member and Todd Rogers #1 fan, Triforce, has once again chimed in on this whole dumb thing, this time doing a big dumb livestream trying to spread as much silly bullshit misinformation to discredit the dispute. The very definition of desperate lol... Idk how this guy even has a following, he's a total nutter and I'm not linking his video since he shouldn't be given anymore views, but he's still a Team Billy guy (he live streamed their Kong-Off press conference where they all just spent an hour spewing even more total bullshit) and thankfully some people were nice enough to summarize the stupid shit he said, so just for laughs, here it is https://i.imgur.com/FoadnxM.png https://i.imgur.com/gKdIvxb.png a rom bootleg board... jesus christ. just as a reminder, one of Steve Weibe's scores was thrown out after it was discovered there was some gummy residue on his DK arcade board which ~maybe~ could've affected the system clock or something despite it never actually being conclusively proven to be the case. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to guess that then TG board bember Billy Mitchell probably had something to do with that absurdity. And now Billy and Co. are throwing a fit over them hitting him with an iron-clad mountain of carefully investigated evidence. What a bunch of babies lol.
Triforce is a hack and a complete idiot. I guarantee he has no fucking clue what he's talking about or even remotely understands what's going on. He's just defending Billy because he likes him. He acted the same fucking way during the Todd Rogers dispute. Didn't Triforce run off to Brazil because of a lost bet or something?
seems like it's easier to list what he didn't do lol. people on the TG thread were quick to link to this https://www.reddit.com/r/Kappa/comments/5y69bf/where_are_they_now_isaiah_triforce_johnson/ gotta love how seemingly all the people still on Billy's side are just really, reeeaaally off in one way or another.
After this entire time it will be revealed that Billy Mitchell was using a legitimate arcade machine the entire time and that in actuality this entire operation has been a massive conspiracy to discredit his flawless mastery. Him and Todd Rogers will migrate to a secret bunker where they will regroup and strike back by demonstrating that they can beat the impossible time in drag racer and in Donkey Kong using their feet instead.
This makes me want a photoshop of Billy with his thumbs down instead, and that rage face kind of like that Todd Howard one.
what i dont get is why would you choose video games to cheat at rather than anything else you /might/ get away with doping yourself for the Olympics but speed running and high scores have an army of not only people passionate about video games but also nerds who are super keen to analyse winning runs frame by frame and compare hardware types like shit you'd have a better chance playing poker and slipping a few cards down your sleeve
The only way you get caught with a properly made splice is if the people who are investigating are aware of things you aren't about the game that crop up as visual inconsistencies. This DK run was an incredibly shit attempt at cheating which would probably have been thrown out straight away if it wasn't made by Billy.
Billy is like the Tudd of Twin Galaxies if Tudd was somehow really popular.
Super Meat Boy had a ton of spliced runs found recently due to a newly found visual effect that runs on a global timer. Since it runs on a global timer, it can be used to find spliced runs. Up until this was found, everything was on level based timers so you could safely splice without any visual artifacts. If anyone knew about this, they didn't make it public until November 2017 and that resulted in a bunch of old runs being removed from the leaderboards. As long as you're smart, cheating in speedruns is 100% viable assuming you know just as much if not more than the people verifying and you account for inconsistencies. In those situations, the only way you're going to get caught is if you made a mistake, or additional info is discovered later which you didn't account for (such as the Meat Boy situation) There are also plenty of little things you could do to enhance your runs. Have a program which hooks the game and shows you useful info (for example, you could have it tell you if your position for a trick is correct or not), fudge the RNG an extremely small amount (small enough that if an analysis was done of all your runs, it'd still be within a margin of error), etc. The most important thing to cheating is not cheating constantly. If you consistently are more lucky across the board, suspicion may be raised. If you always get crits at just the right moment, suspicion may be raised. Any smart cheater would limit the amount they can cheat through the software itself to prevent them from giving themselves away. A good example is KQLY cheating on LAN. The hack he used would apply nospread once every (I think 8?) shots. That meant if he counted his taps, he'd know which shot would have no spread and could use that to his advantage. He was caught due to ESEA's rootkit, but otherwise he'd have only been caught if someone noticed he had a higher accuracy every 8 shots and that's unlikely.
lmao i don't know why i never noticed this, but Jace is now investigating why billys 1050 score has a fancy little grey border around it that didn't display on the VHS tape on normal conditions https://i.imgur.com/SY1Ucyn.png https://i.imgur.com/6pIYela.png o god billy fucked up lol
I am honestly surprised they're still going with this after the "FINGER OF CHEATING" was basically proven to be impossible to recreate on real hardware (and honestly it shouldn't have taken this much testing to prove when people know how these boards render things to screen compared to MAME). Even with "faulty" boards, the way the thing renders isn't going to change so dramatically that it'd be partially rendering a girder like that due to how the rendering scans across. Come on boys, just pull the trigger. It's been a fun and wild ride, but it has to end at some point.
It's certainly taking an impressive amount of work to put together a case against this stuff and into Billy defending it. Maybe if he put this much effort into practicing more legitimate arcade DK he actually WOULD get the record for real, who knows.
The cheat you're thinking of would turn every 8th and 12th shot that was on target into a hs through psilent, ie nobody lives more than 8 bullets into his sprays. I'm not sure that it was actually the same shit that SF was using, though, cause he was pretty obvious.
Can we get an updated version of King of Kong with all this in it?
King of Wrong
https://i.imgur.com/PwANmO4.png dang. was really hoping i'd get to post this image from the DK forums https://i.imgur.com/iFfb2JG.jpg but this is fine, too. TOMORROW IT IS, THEN in the mean-time tho, ChristianPacman is still at it. He got his hands on a 2 player DK machine, one of those flat-top ones where the two players stand on opposite sides and the screen flips 180 degrees when it's the other players turn to play. Here's a compilation i made of all the current DK loading transition screens, plus CPM's latest one https://i.imgur.com/miDNAUH.jpg the issue of rolling shutter was quickly pointed out (note that you can still see DK from the previous frame lol) because yeah he's not using fuckin direct-feed to record shit, and people went ahead and tested and got some actual direct-feed screenshots to look at (top left) which show that it's def 4, not 3. so basically the same thing they already discovered will happen when they modified the arcade hardware to load things from the other side. this is so dumb for so many reasons that should go without saying... but i'll say them anyways: it doesn't matter how the game might load different on player 2 mode because Billy's score was set on player 1 mode, he only saw 3 and not 4 girders because of his camera's angle resulting in rolling shutter effect (he shouldn't be trying to photograph the screen to begin with when the evidence we all have is taken from a DIRECT-FEED anyways lol), even with just the 3 girders it's still not the same as the MAME 3 girder screen, and if Billy's arcade hardware really was modified to somehow flip the orientation anyways he'd be banned for hardware modification. CPM has already pledged they he will continue testing using the two-bit converter with all the stuff everyone ruled was pointless (like the power supply you use...) in his quest to prove Billy's innocence. These people will never stop and it'd be sad if it wasn't so funny.
Could CPM have taken a shittier picture? What a mong.
he actually did three, and one of them somehow is a shittier picture. The third isn't that bad but it's literally a screenshot from a youtube video lol, despite how many times people have tried to explain the issues of compression and the necessity of direct-feed pics. And again, DK can be seen in all of them so yea, it's just rolling shutter shenanigans. The dudes hopeless.
Lawsuits. Contrary to popular belief Jace is not made of money, and most of the startups he's done since Monolith have either failed or been sold off, and Billy IS going to sue unless there's a inronclad case against him legally speaking, not common sense or morally, legally, because that's just the kind of guy he is.
since I get the feeling the affadavits aren't gonna materialize after all, I guess we'll need something else to bet on before tomorrow's results. SO will Carlos' results either: rate AGREE: agree with TG that the gameplay tapes are not arcade footage, but MAME footage rate DISAGREE: disagree with TG, and carlos just absolutely lies out his ass in spectacular fashion rate FUNNY: wimps out by instead spouting some "maybe this would yeild different results if X" and try to request way more time, or just vaguely try to claim it's impossible to really say for sure, and thus not commit to either side. I'm betting the third.
i'm gonna be kind of sad when this ends
There's probably plenty more where the likes of Todd and Billy come from.
this whole drama likely won't end soon. there's still the lingering threat of a lawsuit, but also team billy claimed there's gonna be a king of kong 2. which means billy's probably financing it so he can put his own spin on this cheater drama, and try yet again to misled people not closely following all this drama about the validity of this dispute. it'll be a shitshow.
Wasn't Billy basically the villain in King of Kong? Making a sequel pro-Billy propaganda would be like if a conservative schmuck produced the official sequel to An Inconvenient Truth and made it anti-science.
Good point actually, I for some reason forgot Billy is enough of a cockhole to sue because someone took his high score away. Shit, it's almost like you shouldn't build your entire life around a singular event.
Yeah, instead you do a Todd Rogers and build your life around multiple fake events and... oh.
