I went to Disney World when I was 16 and it was pretty cool. The people were all really nice. Maybe people took a liking to us more because we're Irish and Americans seem to love the idea of Ireland.
A lot of people from the south claim Irish heritage so that's not too terribly surprising.
Not really? There are but it's not all there is.
Why are you tagging me That's not how how that works, but sure. There's bad apples but generally not really. I stated examples of bad, biased news outlets in Sweden, but there's non-biased MSM as well that I exemplified.
You need to stop. We've had good chats before. I know you aren't this thick. Don't pick this hill to die on.
Already seeing the propaganda machine firing up, spreading memes about how she was Muslim (not true according to what I've seen), vegan (not sure how this is relevant), and a woman (only relevant because women seem statistically less likely to do these sorts of things).
You said you've never heard of someone who went to America and didn't say it was bad. I accidentally fucked the quote and couldn't fix it with an edit.
It seemed like you were saying that I implied somewhere that I got the "full American experience", which I didn't. Nor was that the point. It derailed a bit, but my original point was about how bias in US media portrays Europe vs bias in European media portrays Europe, and how I feel like over here we don't have the same issue of bias, so the image we in Europe get of the US more accurate than the image the US gets of Europe.
You're not going to have the same experience in Florida vs. Utah... Or New York vs. Texas... :\
Huh, I've met hundreds of visiting Europeans, from all over Europe, at our national parks, and they have almost all, without exception, said that they've been having a great time and plan to come back, if this wasn't already their 3rd or 4th visit.
"I should be fair; I'm one anecdote. But [another anecdote]"
Again, these replies are just targetting the derailed non-point I wasn't even trying to make because I don't even feel that way instead of the actual point I was trying to make, seen here: Did you just see that one post and then not bother to look at my follow-ups to see that I adressed the derail? ALSO; If by "cynical bubble" you mean an uncountable amount of people both at work and off, close friends, not-so-close friends, acquaintances, family, family of acquaintances and random encounters at social events or gatherings, brief exchanges at pubs & cafés over the course of several years... yeah, sure.
she's kinda hot
... nothing you said changes my point? The Europeans I've met have thoroughly enjoyed the US, haven't felt in danger, enjoyed the people, etc. They had a great time and wanted to come back for their next vacation. Clearly that isn't the image you have of the US. So we have two groups of people with vastly differing views and experiences of the US. The European media can't represent two contradictory points of view at the same time.
Oh, I've already seen far-right sources have a field day with this. KnowYourMeme is practically gloating about it.
