I can't wait to qualify for my $15 settlement check.
Now someone just needs to make a "Fuck Zuckerburg" shirt that costs exactly as much as the settlement check. They'll be rich!
I've already missed out on "I survived Y2k"/"I survived 2012" t-shirt opportunities, might as well let this one slip, too.
This shit is unacceptable. It's time we head back to myspace.
Tom never sold us out or manipulated us. He just wanted us to listen to more music and learn HTML.
I'm sorry Tom, please take us back
I guess we gotta go to weibo then and start chatting up sexy chinese cosplayers and tell them they can live in my room rent free with me as long as they don't mind me crying myself to sleep every night and if they don't touch my stuff
We seem to require an actual SOCIAL network, Facebook appears to have more of an isolating influence on the population instead of actually bringing people together.
We need to make our OWN social network!
...No, not with black-jack and hookers, you get that shit by going outside.
There's virtual blackjack and cybersex. Sorry, we got that covered.
Remember the wise words of Stan Lee:
"Comic books are like boobs: They look great on a computer, but I'd rather hold them in my hand!"
Will there be gold members
The age of poor security and scummy practices with other people's info rumbles onwards. Won't be surprised if the zucc avoided any legal trouble for any of this, really.
Facepunch as Social Network for #2019 #votenow #makeinternetgreatagain
P.S - Garry will sell out all our information for a corn chip
Delete facebook.
Nah, why hide elitism behind a pay-wall?
...Unless you guys are totally cool with pay-walls, 'cause I could use some rent money...
List of people surprised:
There will be shitposters, yes
I already got a $15 check from another Facebook CLA that I don't remember joining. I'll gladly take another $15.
TBH if some advertisement firm wanted to pay me 15 bucks to tell 'em everything they wanna know about me, I would be 100% down to do so.
Sure, but I'd be less cool with it if they did it without my knowledge and offered me the 15 bucks after the fact.
I would certainly want to know how much my information was worth to them, and demand at least 50%. It's only fair, they'd have no info to sell if I didn't sign up for their service that reminds me that I hate people.
It's even cooler if you ask me. I'm willingly giving away all my personal information to an advertisement agent (Facebook) for free, and now you're telling me I actually get 15 bucks for it? Fuckin' score!
log in with facebook to claim your $10 settlement
Facebook sharing your data with CA was not something you willingly ok'd, because they literally said nothing about it and them doing so violates the contract you agreed to when signing up for the service.
It's a shame that I feel like I'm kind of tied to facebook, it's really my only way of connecting with my actual real life groups and my brother.
I didn't willingly OK that part, but I absolutely willingly gave my data to Facebook, well knowing and not caring it was free to whoever wanted it. That's how social media works. That's why literally no one is surprised that Facebook is doing scummy shit like this with their data. Facebook is quite obviously an advertisement/data collection firm. Pretty much any free service in the world today is. All I'm saying is I'll be hyped to hear I might actually be gaining something from being sold like this.
I feel like myspace deserved to die if they haven't thought that they could make a comeback atm what with facebook losing all faith
They say democracy dies in the dark, it's starting to feel like democracy is just getting choked out by apathy
And when this stuff affects the world as much as it does(elections) then we need to talk about it and not be apathetic like this
Facebook is even being tied to a potential genocide in myanmar due to all the propaganda it's algorithms are pushing on certain users as a result of wanting to keep people on site. There's serious shit to be talked about here.
To be honest, I've *always* preferred Myspace for exactly the reasons you mention here. I have no idea why FB overtook it in popularity.
Information is money, Facebook has a lot of information about its users. If they can get away with sharing it then why not? I'm not surprised by this to be honest.
Not that I agree with it.. Just not surprised.
Shame though since a lot of people use it to contact family members or friends who more than likely are otherwise hard to reach, like me, yet most of them will never know how much data is being collected about them, then sold; location, what you are looking at (ad purposes) and a heck of a lot more. It's an information money making machine, can't seem to throw a spanner in it either since people are too careless about this kind of "theft" just gotta wait until it shrivels up eventually dies being replaced by [Next large social network with cool gimmicks].
Quotation marks 'cause average Fb user won't see it as theft
