Here's the part where some other company like Google with Google+ comes out and waggles their eyebrows - provided Google+ is actually a viable option here.
I don't know that Google has been malicious with its users' data but I don't think Google is someone to point to when it comes to being responsible with keeping users' data private -- their business model is providing services to you and then building up a profile on you based on what it knows about you to sell to advertisers in the form of offering to target you with ads based on fairly specific criteria.
Google+ also tried to force people to use their real names, like Facebook, but gave up that fight.
