New "DOOM" movie supposed in the works by Universal

makes sense that its set in Bulgaria, they can use the locals as cast for demons
what was so bad about the last movie? IMO I think it was a pretty good action movie. Not the best but not the worst...
Doom is about mass slaughter of hellspawn with no quarter how do you add a narrative that? It's just shoot guns and heavy metal.
Yeah, protagonists should be the people running like hell from the demons and trying to contain the invasion with their scientific know-how. Doomguy should be the silent badass from the games who drives all the action sequences and doesn't give a shit about protocol. If we ever see so much a a glimpse of doomguy's face, they've already lost me.
to be fair that's more or less what hardcore henry is and it's a very fun movie. it just has to be made with the right spirit and barebones enough of a plot to string together the action sequences
Oh shit, now's my time to shine!
If they can make a basic story that's decent enough to follow and make sense and have plenty of gorey action this can do alright. But knowing Hollywood they're gonna focus too hard on story.
With the whole multiple realitiesthing revealed to be canon in DOOM 2016, the movie could similarly be a "reboot" of sorts - but it still has to get all the fundamental aspects down. If it veers away from shooting straight up demons from Hell on a Mars research base like how the monsters in the first movie were explained as experimented-on convicts with extra chromosomes, it will be shit. I don't care if the Doom Marine/stand-in protag gets to Mars before or after Hell breaks loose, but it had better be Hell breaking loose. And please hire the enemy designers for the latest game to help create the movie monsters.
To be fair, the way the first doom movie got fucked was really unique, since it had to undertake some drastic changes after corporate complaints that the film being about demons made it too unmarketable to Christian audiences, so they had to change it to weird genetic mutants.
Kudos to that film for having quite a bit of practical effects as well.
All right, yeah, after watching that clip of the first person part of the first DOOM movie on the previous page, yeah, that was pretty bad. I haven't seen Hardcore Harry, but that clip also posted doesn't make me want to change that. Action in first person just looks like a bad arcade FMV rail shooter.
And to people saying, "It doesn't even need a plot," well, no. It has to have some kind of plot. You can't just have a guy killing demons for 2 hours. As awesome as that sounds, it would get pretty tedious, pretty fast. Granted, I don't think they need to reinvent Shakespeare for a DOOM movie. A basic "hey, Hell is invading, and this is what we need to do to stop it in 5 easy steps," as delivered by several supporting actors would be fine.

I'd buy it if she was a more well known or established actress. Universal isn't going to hinge the success of their second attempt at a Doom franchise on the strength of the name alone. They probably want at least one big name in there to draw in a crowd.
>killing convicts who were experimented on and tortured = okay with Christians
>killing demons = not okay with Christians
Christians are weird, man.
As it stands, she's probably going to be some Olivia Pierce type.
How about a DOOM movie, but it doesn't revolve around the Doomguy. Instead, you can just take the first 15 minutes of Doom 3 - essentially the calm before the storm - then when all Hell br- uh, when everything goes bad, the movie just turns into Dog Soldiers with some scientist nerds holed up in a security checkpoint or something. I think it's totally possible to make a movie in the Doom universe, just as long as it doesn't star a bunch of Marines shooting at things for 90 minutes; that's what the games are for.
Also you could have the Doomguy finally show up and someone can cry out, "Thank God, I thought we were doomed" and then I walk out of the theater disgusted yet unsurprised.
Maybe this one will have demons lmao.
Idk I think a DOOM movie could work really well if it followed the style of the 2016 DOOM.
Just have a dude in power armour mutilate some demons on mars/in hell while pissing off a grumpy cyborg dude. It's a pretty hard concept to get wrong.
Better yet just have doomguy give the biggest shit eating grin, go insane and slaughter the scientists then continue on his demon killing rampage for the ending.
Doomguy doesn't kill innocent people
Honestly the best perspective for the movie would be from some random dickhead watching doom guy kill everything.
Which made the moral panic over Dungeons and Dragons all the more ironic, cause Gary Gygax was a Christian himself. Wasn't enough for the footloose rejects that you were killing demons and being allied by angels in the first edition - apparently the game was somehow teaching kids to embrace Satan.
You can probably chalk up most of those complaints to the fundamentalists, who are always the loudest when it comes to crap like this.

Was there ever a Doom game where you don't see his face?
I think Doom 64 is the only one where you can't see his face.
Hardcore Henry was amazing imo, the FPS perspective made it different artistically and all the action and parkour made it really fun and interesting. Something you don't see in most of the movies. Some people got motion sickness out of it, but I have watched it twice or more and I fucking love it. The story is a bit mindless, but the action is fun and immersive for me and it doesn't change my opinion.
I can see a new Doom movie made, the last one was a bit eh and too much residental evily, but I'd see the new one if it is any good. The mindless action is probably going to make it or brake it.
Brutal Doom isn't canon.
Those aren't doom marine. that's actually a different character all together. Doom marine is the previous dooms (bar 3) and 2016. Its cannon that he literally just jumps into different dimensions to be the doom slayer. Whenever demons show up and break out of their "hell" dimension, doom marine is a literal spirit of vengeance that will come to smite them back to their world AND fight them back in their own world to the depths. demons are so scared of him, to the point that they branded him and his armor, then placed warnings all over about the doom slayer. He cannot die, and he has the backings of gods.
