Kanye West just said 400 years of slavery was a choice

I don't think it's intentional. He's suffering from depression / bipolar is not receiving proper care. When asked if he's seeing a therapist he responded that just talking to people is his therapist. Talking to friends in family who are not medical professionals is not an alternative to therapy. He needs help.
I know this is a joke, bit that's literally what native Americans did.
That's strange, somehow that sounds familiar, but I've not a clue where I could have heard that
he is fully encompassing the concept of kanye
who can help
I mean considering he’s married to a women with a family of self centered egotistic pricks I wouldn’t be surprised he’s so mentally broken
poor guy just needs a therapist, this is his cry for help
I don't think people are fully aware that the guy might actually be insane. He is dead serious when he tells people that his dead mother talks to him and gives him the entire lyrics to a song. Not to mention all of the crazy shit he's done/said in the past. The guy experiences some serious delusions - he always has.
Damn, if only those slaves would have checked the local demographics they'd have seen that the numbers were in their favor. Textbook example of thinking about history from a modern perspective.
plot twist: he said so just to promote his upcoming albums
All he has to do is release an album and he's relevant again he doesn't need to do this twitter shit
Some Kanye fans act exactly like trump supporters, he'll occasionally spew some absolutely idiotic drivel and there'll be a significant number of folk who go "actually that was complete genius what he said choice he didn't actually mean choice, what he really said was.."
Ges to show what cult of personality is like in different contexts and the effects of it
I think Kanye is just shitposting; Seems to be a pretty decent market strategy at this point.
ye but kanye wants to be abstract. he's not like eminem or 50 cent.
Ok it probably looked like I was trying to justify what Kanye said but I'm not. I just thought it was an interesting fact to share that Native Americans were able to escape slavery because they knew the wilderness of America as opposed to African slaves who were an ocean away from their homeland.
Golly it's almost as though entertainer aren't necessarily intelligent people
Because slavery is no longer necessary when a certain level of industrialization is met so that the economy of the slaveholders and Nobles is not threatened by economic collapse when slavery is taken away. To use notable examples: The Confederate States of America suffered a large collapse because they were so agrarian and the entire war was fought to preserve its economy (I'd also argue that ideals are shaped by the economy such as the many unpopular ones of the confederate leaders but that's another time) and then you have the USSR which utilized gulag slave labor for 10 years (or you know 1000 if your looking at pre-communist Russia) in order to develop infrastructure while the PRC did the same for 20 years before they finally had the whole industrialization thing going down and opened up trade with the U.S.
Essentially slave labor stops being a thing when automation starts to.
Eh, Africans aren't 1 person - the fact that certain states would basically annihilate entire regions to sell the populace to foreigners doesn't seem like the enslaved were asked much. The only way the statement is fully true is if we watch it from a much wider POV - the slaves were enslaved by the ones that look more alike, but that is akin to blaming a Russian for being kidnapped by a Swede and sold to a Greek
Yeah but doing twitter shit requires less effort to cause controversy and make yourself instantly relevant, making an album would actually require him to do something other than be a dumbass.
yeah it's sad... the african kings gave no fucks for their own people that they sold em to whitey up north for some guns n shit... nowadays the african presidents just sell their peoples labour to us and we sell the presidents a cool western lifestyle
Awesome: ten more songs of him rapping about scooping poop.
A major radio station in Detroit is now refusing to play his songs over this:

I wonder if other stations will follow soon.
Bad way to look at it. Using Russia as an example for the longest of times was 90% serf 10% rich nobles buying silly hats from the 1% of rich as fuck trade and commerce guilds until communism came and did the exact same thing but without the guilds. Kings in general had no fucks for the people and until the 1700s and I feel confident in saying that most Nobles around the globe thought of peasants as baggage along for the ride.
Desperate singer tries to get attention drawn to him by saying whatever he can conjure up in his head to boost sells of new album and, stupidly enough, it will work.

It's hard for me to completely disavow Kanye since his music and empowering ideology have made such a big, positive impact in my life. The most charitable I can be is that he's woefully underdeveloped intellectually and ideologically and that hopefully he figures things out.
I don't think he's a bad person; just really, really ignorant towards a lot of issues that he has no right to be this ignorant about.
Kanye also said "Scoopity Woop, Woop dee woop dee poop", so I don't take it too seriously. He just says things.
good rule of thumb, people who refer to themselves as geniuses are probably too self absorbed to recognize when they're wrong
that doesn't mean kanye can't say worthwhile things, or that the worthwhile things he's said lose their value, it just means he's kind of a prick and he doesn't know when to shut the fuck up
Kanye is the quintessential stable genius
Are you saying he doesn't put effort into his music?

Come on, this is a total classic! Lyrical genius
I mean, I can see what he's saying. Submission is ultimately a choice, even if the other choice is death. Nobody can be blamed for choosing it, in that situation though. He could be trying to emphasize the mental enslavement that occurred, where the slaves outnumbered the whites in some states, and yet they were threatened and degraded and brainwashed by their masters into not rising up. It was also a choice for society as a whole. We could have banned slavery at any point (even some founding fathers were abolitionist), but the general consensus was "that would piss the south off too much and we might have a war or something, we can't have that, no sir." and let it go on for 400 years.
I know it's satire, but Kanye has some fantastic lyrics.
