When the thing in the future happens, he could just call to warn his past self.
iirc, it wasn't an issue a couple years back, at least for me. It was easy to distinguish robo-calls too.
Huh, this must be why I keep getting calls about extending my cars warranty every other day.
I've never owned a car and they won't stop calling me.
If it's important they'll leave a voice mail. I almost never answer the phone if it's an unknown number.
That explains why I received some calls from unknown numbers a long time ago. Now, I don't answer any number I don't recognize, then add them to my blacklist on an app.
They thought of that. I have has multiple robo-callers leaving blank voicemail messages.
I've only had the pleasure of a few robocalls, but one in particular spooked me. I picked up the phone, said "Hello?" and then it's just silence on the line.
Twenty seconds pass, and then this female robot just blurts out "GOODBYE." and hangs up.
Spooked the shit out of me.
Consider me an expert on this.
dont even fucking get me started on these robocalling motherfuckers. I am drowning in them. 4-5 calls a fucking HOUR. My block list has over a thousand numbers on it. The shit ever ends.
Please. I beg you. If you get call from an unknown number, pick up and mute yourself ASAP. Listen. Do NOT make any noise. Don’t trigger their god damn “harass this number” bot. If it’s a real person, DO NOT FUCK WITH THEM. Here’s why:
a few years back, I got a spam call from a company (presumably based from India, heavy accents) claiming to fix PCs. Same old garbage. So I fucked with him. I called him names. Called him over and over. He got so pissed at me. I called his mother a whore. He had enough of me. He full on screamed (in another language) into the phone. His final words were “FUCK YOU, YOU FUCKED UP” into the phone. Then it happened. Call after call. Every hours. I was getting 10+ spam calls an hour. He must’ve put me on some secret spam caller database. It was insane. I began to block those numbers.
Fast fowards like 3 years, I don’t get as many frequent calls (4-5 an hour instead of the 10+). I assume he stopped or whatever list my number was on shut down because the spam switched from random places in the US to spoofing numbers around me. Everyone I know gets these calls too. They’re really bad. My friend got a number change and within a day had spam again. You talk to anyone around here and they’ll agree and say they get hardcore spam. Something needs to be done about it.
Anyway, that’s my two cents on the matter. Spam calls suck. My phone actually lags a little when I block numbers now lmao
I used to get a lot for home-owner's insurance, too, despite never having owned a home.
Turns out they stop calling you after you tell them you live in a van down by the river a few times.
I get a shitton of calls, my number is relatively "obvious" if you were to make up a number, so presumably people put this fake number on their insurance, various things and that then makes its way to robocallers somehow who think im these people so they send targetted calls. I get constant calls asking for a women named lavinia's insurance information, a harold, and more i cant remember.
You'd think spoofing caller ID shouldn't have even been a problem in the first place
I have a thing on my mobile phone subscription that SHOULD prevent all kinds of telemarketing calls.
For around a year or so I kept answering my phone going "I uh, should have a thing that prohibits telemarketing on my subscription?" with them going "UH SORRY UH" so I just stopped answering unknown numbers. The calls came whenever, even in the middle of the night or very late in the evening. My phone is always on mute when I'm at work or sleeping, solely because of this bullshit.
They either sent a text or leave a voicemail if it's an actual, important thing. And then I either call them back or save the number as "ANSWER YOU FOOL!" or such.
That happens to me quite a lot.
Best way to deal with these people really, 10/10
Literally talked to my grandparents yesterday and this came up. They get those calls saying "we're sending the force on its way blah blah blah police, we're from the FBI" and my grandpa straight up told him "Oh you are are you, well I'll make sure to have my gun ready if they try to break an entering". The guy said "no, you cant do that" and my grandpa said "well you cant pose as the Police and FBI and threaten people without retaliation. I worked with the FBI before and they don't act like this. So once you get a better routine try calling me then, and I might even play along next time til I got bored. Welp, coffee's ready, buh-bye".
They get calls every day, I get calls from florida for some reason, and more recently they did the area code spoofing thing. My local news got called by one during their broadcast and taking calls on FCC regulations XD f'n gold.
I fuck hate them because in my area its always thanking me for renting a Marriott Hotel room.
I don't have the scratch for that, at least do you research you fucking idiots.
I keep getting calls from Allison at the resort.
she never specifies which resort, of course. or maybe she does, but I've never let her get farther than that.
fortunately these stupid calls only show up every two or three days, so I can pretty comfortably just block and ignore.
If I'm not mistaken, there actually used to be an app you could download that allowed just anyone to spoof CallerID information. It was removed from the market forever for obvious reasons.
I have automatic voicemail transcriptions, the robocallers just leave nothing or static, so if there aren't any words, I don't worry about it.
I answer every call because I'm going to talk to an operator and I am going to annoy them just as much as they've annoyed me. I actually don't get too many scam calls anymore. At first I had ~6 a week, I now get only one per month or so.
