Laughing even harder now. Defend him as much as you want, he should have told them all before announcing it publically, companies have internal memos for a reason. Fucking scumbag move. If they were based anywhere but the US he'd have been screwed by laws, good thing the US doesn't protect its workers.
Cliffy B is really living up to his big ego and not giving a fuck ego.
This is literally how crowdfunding works. Sometimes it isn't gonna work. I was really fucking shocked at how people tend to react when a kickstarter falls on its ass. It was always a part of the system that it could fail and refunds wasn't supposed to be on the table. The reason games on kickstarter eventually went for hybrid funding (where your money is just an indicator of interest in the project and an ultra-early pre-order) was because people who used to love the idea of giving people a shot got their panties in a bunch when their 15$ went up in smoke along with the funded concept. I never gave Cliff any money, but Crowdfunding is never investment. You're not getting anything in return unless the backer bracket says so. I don't know how that makes you say "a fool and their coin has been parted" That's a foolish thing to say when the concept of a failed crowdfunded project is neither new nor untreaded ground...
So he pretty much fired all the employees via twitter?
He's always been a reactive fucking baby.
This wasn't crowdfunding though was it? it was steam early access.
Haha, fuck you Cliffy
They had donation-like crowdfunding options on top of early access.
Remember how he was just complaining about his employees moving back to Epic Games? Yeah fuck you Cliffy

This post is just straight up redundant because you are outright assuming off the back that I have some kind of beef with kickstarters and creating an argument off of something I haven't even said. Like where have I argued any point, I was laughing at people. I fully understand that a kickstarter can fail and that's a risk that people accept when they part their money. When you back a promising kickstarter and it still fails for good reasons. THAT I find acceptable. It was free to play early access. There was an early access founder pack that people bought for 15usd. I'm laughing at people because this is a project that had no promise at all and looked like shit. This project looked rushed and the alpha didn't even look like it was started. Maybe if there was some effort it would have been more promising.
The only surprise is that it happened so soon.
I think Lawbreakers' failure does have a lot to do with him as a person, his marketing campaign was horrible and he was too stubborn and self assured to make the changes that could have saved it. Radical Heights on the other hand was a horrible cynical cashgrab that should never have happened.
Well that my sympathies and good will just got flushed down the toilet
hohohoho that stings. glad i didn't think twice before trashing cliffy in the first place
Oh wow, even with the current state of Bosskey I thought they would've lasted longer. They came and went in a blink of an eye
i tried https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/110521/79f88a12-1c9e-45cf-9b31-9483a5c979f7/image.png
I can't imagine how it feels to be a game dev and have the game you made rarely break past 100 concurrent players. That must be a miserable experience.
You were mocking the fact that people weren't complaining about money they essentially gave away. Stupid or not of them, your behavior is fucking shitty. what, you want them to react in entitlement because they were naive with their money? Naivete with money is what funds most charities as well. We need people to sometimes be a bit fearless with smaller figures of money. It generally serves to make the world a better place. But sure. Go ahead and make a fuss about other people's 15$...
Maybe lawbreakers is a bad game, maybe Cliffy B is a bad game maker, and maybe Cliffy Bs minor accomplishments from 15 years ago arent a reflection of his current self. I dont think cliffy B should be praised for ~pioneering~ the gritty third person cover based shooter. Thats like praising someone for pioneering a new type of porridge, but with even less flavor than normal porridge.
Lmao Where am i making a fuss dude all i was doing was pointing out something I though was funny. Where is my 20 paragraph rant about how I'm mad that someone was dumb with their money?
twice
Yeah Cliffy should not be the head of a game studio, being a good dev doesn't not make you a good leader. It's pretty much another Peter Molineux case, this guy needs to be part of a team, not lead it.
The developers (NAMCO USA) for Kill Switch should get that praise anyways.
These posts actually put me into a laughing fit at how fucking trash Cliffy B is. What an absolute scumbag, trying to maximize pity before even telling his employees about the closure.
I mean what did he expect when all he did was shamelessly follow whatever was currently hot without doing anything to make them stand out on top of already having a bad personal reputation? Cliffy is a moron
Lol, I feel like it was only last year that he started Boss Key and he's already fucking it off, honestly can't even say I give a flying fuck either, they weren't doing anything interesting or anything to make them stand out, instead just trying to do what's popular and failing at that, if anything they deserved it really, you don't start a company just to copy off everyone else, it's fucking stupid.
This is pitifully depressing
This is what happens when a game company heavily focuses on chasing short term gaming trends (hero/team based FPS, MOBA, and now Battle Royale). They end up entering an over-saturated market and the game ends up not selling very well to put it lightly. It happened with Paragon, Battleborn, etc. I feel bad for the employees that worked under Boss Key Productions.
