Do palestinians even have rifles?
Perhaps you should have read my question carefully in the first place and noted I asked for an actual, ethical justification, which a strategic reason isn't.
There's been shootings at israeli soldiers so probably
At least according to the Washington Post article I quoted a couple of pages ago.
I could just as easily offer that Israeli control of the Golan would deter Syrian incursions (both official and otherwise) in the area and thus lessen the likelihood of more death or the outbreak of a war and is therefore the more ethical option for both parties. It's also confusing to me that you would suggest an important asset that firmly prevents a previous aggressor from acting as effectively should be given away just because. The territory was claimed in war time and was used by the aggressor for making war - it is my opinion that your idealist perspective is unfounded. I haven't done much reading on recent history in regards to the Golan and related politics but it seems that Israel has made attempts to return large parts in exchange for peace guarantees and normalization efforts - more definitely could and should have been done to ensure a satisfactory outcome but Israel isn't alone in the failure. I'd also like to remind you that the Syrian Civil war is ongoing and that area is under opposition control.
The fact that some people refuse to accept this after claiming that the IDF fires irrationally at protesters makes me wonder if they're Hamas supporters or just plain ignorant.
