To be fair, the 'key personnel' wasn't nearly as special as most people make them out to be.
Why? I'm convinced "key personnel" isn't required to make a good game, but what fans want is specifically a STALKER game...
As far as I know, the developers were often swapped out, I've heard it said that just about every ukrainian coder at some point worked on stalker (that that's obviously a exaggeration). Everyone always talks about said 'key people', but never actually says who exactly they are talking about, assuming that GSC was made up of the same people for the entire time stalker was being developed, which allegedly is far from the truth. In addition to this, other than a somewhat impressive lightning engine, everyone knows how buggy and broken stalker is in many ways, even after many patches. Hardly something a 'talented key group' would do. While stalker had its merits when it came out, it was far from a technological marvel. I mean, it was 2007, by the time HL2 had long been out and games such as Crysis, Bioshock Assassins Creed were making their debut. I think Stalker gained its cult classic status because it was something of an "outsider art" in the industry, it had some pretty nice ideas, an unique setting and wasn't subject to executive meddling - which is possibly the key that made it what it is. Good ideas aren't rare, but a publisher that is willing to risk using them is and THQ was as lenient as you could get in that regard. I don't think it'd be hard to find a team who would understand what makes Stalker great and expand upon it, but finding a publisher that would take that risk and not try to capitalize on it in a way that would affect it negatively for its core fans (widening the appeal and whatnot, let alone microtransactions) might be tricky.
"Get out of here STALKER. Well, unless you buy our DLC pass. Could even throw in a few random artifacts for you in a lootbox, who knows, you may get a compass!" "Uhmm" "Until then, get out of here STALKER" That would be the failure of this game I am afraid
True, that being said, their recent Cossacks 3 was self published. Perhaps that's the route they're going for?
Hopefully this time the game won't be as janky I loved the STALKER series, but needing patches and mods up the ass to make it not crash AS MUCH is a bitch
Isn't this like the third time they've said they were finally gonna S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2? I'll believe it when I see it.
No. The project was initially in development before being sacked along with GSC, GSC didnt exist for like 5 years before coming back and doing games again.
not gonna believe it until it comes out i've been disappointed too many times before.
Guess what? Unless Google translated this article wrong or there's some sort of misunderstanding...it's going to be multipalyer/online-focused game without singleplayer as such.... [quote]Technologies have gone far ahead. If in 2007, not everyone had a stable and fast Internet, now this is no longer the case. Therefore, the second "stalker" will be an online game without a single-part as such. "Why create an artificial simulation of life, if you can let in real people? Why prescribe the behavior for the NPC, when you have real people doing what they are interested in. People will create a unique setting and fill the game world with real life, not artificial. You just need to give them the right tools. " It is not clear whether the game will be a prequel of "Clear Sky" or the sequel "Call of Pripyat", Sergei Grigorovich does not exclude even "easy restart" of the series, but there will be absolutely no groupings at the start of servers in the Zone. All players will have one common global quest. Every time one of the stalkers reaches their goal, a large outflow and a balance of forces and resources will take place in the Zone. It is planned that this mechanics will create a dynamic clan struggle and will force players to unite in alliances and fight with each other. It will be advantageous for someone to keep the current state of affairs, and for others, updating the Zone will be the last chance for survival.[q/uote]
What article? All we have so far is a website with nothing in it.
I think you guys are expecting a bit too much from something that will inevitably disappoint.
There's no proper english translation of it at the moment and i'm not entirely sure how accurate the translation is but I've put the link there now anyway, it doesn't sound good at all. It sounds as if they're going to create more of a blank world themed around the series and let players in to fill in the gaps rather than creating a complete game themselves, so an MMO-like game with players instead of NPCs.That makes me lose interest entirely.
It's fake. The article has no sources and it's talking about how there's permadeath and you have to pay every time you die. Also players forcefully resetting the world with a quest.
Google translate won't seem to translate the entire page so i didn't get a chance to read that part, what does it say? Hope that's the case as an MMO would be terrible.
I'd say it's better to reserve your expectations, positive or negative, for at least until we have some gameplay footage and more information.
What event is that photo actually from? The translation of the heading for that photo is really unclear if it's claiming to be from the event that supposedly happened recently, it says it's from a buisness festival with a name that translates to "our whole life is a game".
https://mykharkov.info/news/24-oktyabrya-v-kieve-sostoyalsya-biznes-fest-svobody-vsya-nasha-zhizn-igra-30856.html It's an actual video game start-up and promotional thing organized in Kiev. He attended it as a keynote speaker and interacted with the audience there in 2015, which is why it seems so casual that he's just reclining on the podium there. From the article, bonus pepsi. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/689/7bef5992-c8ab-460d-92ee-1282ac5040e3/image.png Sergei really can't live without Pepsi can he. Little did he know that Coca Cola sponsored that event.
The article is about a business event in Kiev, though. It just says it's a photo of him at the event, it doesn't say it's from this year and it says he asked people not to take photos.
