• Jamie Oliver sets out to ban two-for-one pizza deals to "curb obesity"

I wish Jamie Oliver would fuck off already, he's a condescending food snob who's content to talk shit about people not wlling or able to cook his 'healthy' meals with his kitchen and ingredients that are probably worth half the value of the average home. The guy should mind his own damn business or jump in front of a bus, I he already ruined school meals so why not fuck low income people who want to treat themselves to pizza whilst they're at it, too?
Lmao its his attempt to stay relevant, his restaurants are closing and losing money because nobody like the crap he cooks, but he blames it on brexit.
It also implies that the people who will stop ordering pizza because it’s too expensive for them to afford have other – healthier – alternatives, which they are intentionally avoiding, and we need to help them see the light by removing their ability to make those choices for themselves. holy fuck this is the worst part imo and it's so patronising. It's like your mother telling you can't have pudding when you're a full grown adult, holy shit. It's actually embarrassing seeing people eat this stuff up without thinking for a single second why people opt for these foods. It's not necessarily a case of comfort food, sometimes you just simply don't have the time to go through the process of preparing a meal. Stuff like 2 for 1 pizzas makes things more convenient in both price and time. I can have a pizza ready in like 20 minutes in the oven. Preparing a full meal, dicing vegetables, ectra is sometimes not appropriate for the time you have. In addition, i don't have to worry about what is in my cabinets and if i can make it with what i have to make the right portions. Jamie has been on this crusade for well over a decade and the only reason he comes back every 5 or so years, is because people keep feeding his attention. This all began with the absolutely massive circlejerk he got the first time and is continuing to this day. At first it seems like a genuine cause but the further into the years, the more it's shown that all he wants is to milk an issue for publicity because that is all he is known for.
This just in, 50% off all pizzas on Tuesdays.

I'm not sure what your point is, I can make basic balanced meals in around the same time. I'm all for eating take out for pleasure every once in a while but I never really got the "convenience" argument people bring up. Shit, if you plan ahead you can prep meals and freeze them in advance on a rainy day and they're ready after just few minutes in the microwave.
Jamie Oliver already ruined Turkey Twizzlers at my school when I was a kid. God damn it why is he still trying to ruin things I like when I'm an adult!?
can we just curb jamie oliver already please
Maybe we should just focus on teaching people healthy things and self fucking control rather than just banning things. I hate this fucking mentality of banning anything remotely bad just because some people choose to live dangerously or unhealthily. Ruins it for those of us that enjoy moderation. Cunts.
Nugget incident?
An apple and a slice of pizza don't have the same nutritional value. I'm pretty sure it'd be easier to get obese from eating pizza than fruit.
You have to keep in mind that a lot of people are rather dumb and lazy, what might seem sane and logical to you might not click with the vast majority of people. I think the problem is deeply rooted in education from a young age, but no government wants to invest the time and money into properly overhauling things because our current system has led to a cycle of short term plans with short term results.
his point is not about it being easier or not, but about it being possible regardless of what you eat if you try hard enough
Uh sure but who the hell actually tries to become obese? I'm not sure I see the relevance to the discussion here.
believe it or not, there are people who do try to become and stay obese, and then there are also people who try to make their partners obese and to make it relevant to the topic as a whole, due to the fact that there are people who do this, banning anything won't curb obesity
Uuuh what? A tiny, minuscule amount of people are willing to become obese to the point where they'll try by eating fruits (which I'm not even sure is humanely possible), thus banning calories dense food that end up unwillingly causing the vast majority of obesity situations won't curb obesity in the slightest? Regardless of whether banning certain foods is a good policy, that's some deeply flawed logic.
I'm a big proponent of cooking for yourself and making your own meals. With that said, sometimes, a long day is a long day, and I don't want to cook. Some days I'll have done a full work day, gone to the gym, done some errands, done the grocery shopping, and considering my job never really is over, still be responding to emails and the last thing I want to do, as a person who loves cooking, is to stand up and do that for 30 minutes when I'm just totally wiped. With that said, for the last month I've had a strict policy of "No Buying food" and every single meal I've eaten in the last 2 weeks has been home cooked, home made, and relatively fresh and just forcing myself to go through the motions every night has made it much less tedious to do so. It's just frequency of a habbit really.
So much oil, that the US has a squad of marines ready to invade his kitchen any second now.

What i hate about these bans is that they don't stop fat people from buying fizzy drinks or pizza. They stop poor people from buying fizzy drinks and pizza. Pizza is one of my favourite treats but we never get it outside of a deal. Why should I have to give up my favourite food because some people, who probably wont be deterred by a price hike in the same way i will, eat way too much pizza?.
It's not even a question of habit or skill. As I said, if you have a freezer, just cook a bit more quantity on the weekends (which takes 0 additional time) and save the leftovers for such a day. Fuck, if you don't, just throw some pasta into boiling water and top it with some industrial salsa. Not ideal, but still miles better (and cheaper) than ordering pizza. My point is that the excuse of lacking time is just that; an excuse. People would rather blame their schedule for their dietary detours than their simply wanting to indulge in some guilty pleasures. It helps them feel less responsible for those.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7SMVdnoZtc There's some argument to be made about the value of saving time. When I do meal prep for a week and have everything prepped and ready to go, by Thursday the food sucks and I lose my enthusiasm about eating because freezing fresh foods often ruins them. I'll put in the effort, but I don't always feel rewarded by it to be honest. You can say whatever you'd like about that, but I cook 7 days out of the week. Sometimes, doing so doesn't feel rewarding or great but I still do it and sometimes it can feel like "I really just wish I had the time to do something I want to do". Cooking, food prep, that's all an enjoyable hobby, but I'm not in the mood for it all the time, and cooking for two individuals(myself and my fiance) can take up a lot of time, energy, and effort.
If you're forced to live like that then you might as well enjoy something, it's easy to say people should eat healthy but when you're in that kind of situation healthy eating isn't a concern, when you're starving and tired no one wants to be cooking food.
Sure. What relevance does it have with what I said, though? Preparing a little bit more food sometimes doesn't take additional time. You're meal prepping for the whole week? Kudos for that! But that's not what I'm referring to. I'm talking setting aside some leftovers for a rainy day, which doesn't take additional time. My point remains that the differenciating factor is pleasure. Cheap and reasonably healthy sustenance can be achieved without issue under time constraints, and stuff like pasta can be made every once in a while if you want a meal that tastes decent and doesn't take longer to make than ordering take out. The key thing that makes you settle for pizza is that you want to eat something that's tastier than what's available to you. And there's nothing wrong with that, really, especially since you otherwise seem well-disciplined. I'm not sure the same can be said of the majority of those who use time constraints as an argument for takeout.
I mean I’m down 100lbs from several years ago, so yeah I do have more restraint than most people, I think. But it all the same sometimes that effort can be the straw that breaks the camels back for me on a long and difficult week. Also do I really don’t like left overs, idk why, idk what causes me to really struggle to finish leftovers but I always struggle quite hard.
Even if it's stuff that doesn't mix with the rest? Like extra blinis? (They freeze and unfreeze pretty nicely by the way, just put them in the oven for a few minutes)
To be honest I've never made anything like that as of yet. I've been doing roasted vegetables, salads, and some kind of sous vided meat as my dinner for the last week(plenty of variation in whats roasted, or spices used) and I'll save a small thing of leftovers for myself, go to eat it the next day and whether it's reheated in the oven or the microwave or even stove top it's never really appetizing to me and I just force down whatever I can which usually isn't that much.
"How do we combat obesity among the poor?" "Let's just make food more expensive so they can afford less of it."
Fucking health food Nazis, man.
Jamie Oliver took away turkey twizzlers in this country, you won't be taking our pizza deals too you knob.
