• Jamie Oliver sets out to ban two-for-one pizza deals to "curb obesity"

Also if you want to try curb obesity, I'd say go try and improve the cheap £1 ready meals or the oven cook pizzas. Things people actually eat often. Takeaway pizzas aren't exactly something people eat every day.
While I have no issue with policy that doesn't affect the end consumer (like banning ads), I think anything that resembles a junk food tax should come with subsidies or tax deductions on healthier alternatives. It's like banning polluting cars from inner cities, it only affects poorer folks if you don't extend your public transportation system and make it more affordable.
Yeah but how does that work into deals like this? You can't just force a salad bar to do a buy-one-get-one-free because you shut down the pizza chain deal.
If I can't get a 241 pizza, I'd just get a chinese, I don't think that is much healthier.
I will never forgive him for what he did to turkey twizzlers
Well the point is making healthy food more affordable, it doesn't really matter how. That being said, targeting specific promotions instead of just increasing taxes is kinda dumb.
By making unhealthy food more expensive. The poor won't get fat if they can't afford to eat so much.
What? Making unhealthy food more expensive doesn't make healthy food cheaper. You have to do both. That's my point.
Unhealthy food is cheap because you can mass produce them, have a long shelf life and fills you up quickly Your healthy alternative is going to last a week at most, and it cost more to produce, that's your biggest issue. I think its difficult to combat unless you make it more affordable for healthier options and taxing unhealthy food.
So a tax on unhealthy foods to fund a massive subsidy on healthy foods?
Jamie Oliver successfully unites the left and right in thinking that he is a tit
Would a tax on unhealthy food bring down the prices of healthy food enough for poor people to afford it though? Because if not it's just increasing the price people have to pay for all food, since the healthier food was already too expensive and you've just made the cheap food cost more too. You can't do these things on a whim.
You're a damn genius
Sugar isn't the most fattening part of soda though, unless you're doing keto
Trying to pick a fight against everyone eh Oliver?
this is so weird. it's completely edible and cuts down on any food wastage. there's literally nothing wrong with eating the carcass. even the kids are still down for it. what's his point here? that it's not healthy? to me it seems like a great example of using every part of the animal and minimizing waste. when that shit isn't used for nuggets, it's used to make stock, and i don't see him riling against stock any time soon. it's food scare tactics. it's all edible and totally fine.
I have the solution: buy two get both 50% off.
I feel very stupid now but then what is? Also not exactly just fattening but the sugar in soda is a huge culprit in rise of diabetes too. Lastly sorry but what does ketogenic diet have to do with this (assuming thats what you meant by keto)? And wouldn't it be completely against doing a keto diet to drink something filled with sugar/carbs?
The corn syrup. Also in the Ketogenic diet if you are drinking lots of sugar you aren't going to lose weight.
Corn syrup in everything is an American thing. We don't have corn syrup in our food over here, for the most part.
we're talking about cokes and shit
Yes. And we don't have corn syrup in our cokes and shit. That's an American thing.
I don't even understand what this has to do with anything but you said food dude
In the US, unhealthy food is cheap mostly because it's made of stuff that's heavily subsidized for no good reason. https://youtu.be/HOE5QDDKDlY Also "fill you up quickly"? I'm not sure what you're talking about. I'm not sure that's universal either, in France it's often costlier to buy ready-to-eat meals than fresh ingredients.
Sorry I didn't specify food and drink. Americans have corn syrup in most of their sweetened food and drink, that's why I said 'everything'. Is it really that hard to understand what I meant?
if you are drinking sugar you're not going to lose weight anyway, keto or no keto
