HuniePop and other adult games facing removal from Steam after complaints

yeah but the game itself doesn't have any porn in it, at least what's being distributed on steam
Hatred's controversy was short-lived and making it available on Steam caused very minimal harm to Valve's reputation. Porn, on the other hand, will always cause moral outrage.
And yet all the developer-made porn content is readily downloadable and easy to install, and doing so is the clear intended way to play the game seeing as this is how it is sold everywhere else.
I hope they're not getting rid of Mirror.
dammit i just wanted to hear girls moan when i match 3 diamonds
May just be a shot in the dark here, but I have a feeling part of it is less due to the games having sexual content, and more that they have sexual content and are unrated by a governing body.
Games like Witcher 3 and GTA V do have explicitly sexual scenes, but they are also rated by the ESRB and other similar rating organizations, therefore they have clear warnings that said content is present.
Yes yes, I know. Common sense should be at play for games like HuniePop and the countless other VNs like it, but as you also know, common sense isn't everyone's strong suit as well.
Also, please don't go around blaming the "SJW boogeyman" like I'm seeing some others outside of this thread do. All that does is misdirect from the issue at hand.
Literally every bethesda title has easily downloadable porn content, haydee even has it on the steam workshop if I remember right from hearing about it.
i don't see a problem with games that are censored
or make it where you have to enable a setting in steam to buy adult games
hunniepop is on steam for like 3 years now and steam telling them to patch it or its gets removed
Haydee's "porn" is actually Skyrim porn.
I'm not kidding
They're within their rights to delete a game because they think it's not fun. They own the platform.
I was just saying that the games themselves didn't have any explicit content, you need to seek out the pornographic content yourself- effectively being the age-wall.
Although I don't think valve did this by their own will (they were probably forced to).
There's a point where a company is so big that the success of others depends on them, the same thing that happened to YandereDev with twitch, yes they are a private company, but they are one of the biggest factor's in a game's success, and I don't think they should have that much control over a market.
The difference is it isn't made by the dev and it isn't the intended way to play the game.
Is that a real thing? Forgive me for not wanting this in my search history.
Well, money is the way to talk in things like this.
E-mail Valve your intent to move away from their platform if you feel they're handling things poorly (They are.). After that, and most importantly, follow through.
No, you see when gritty Western fantasy does it, it's only for very important plot reasons.
When a company is so big that most of the industry is in it and there's no other way to obtain most games, no money can't talk unless you get rid of your hobby altogether.
I don't see why this "loophole" matters. It's not being distributed on Steam, therefore for all intents and purposes, the sexual content is not bundled with the game. It doesn't matter if the game is intended to be played with these patches, because it can be played without. Being exposed to the sexual aspect of the game is a consumer choice in this case, so who cares?
True true, but that doesn't mean there aren't alternatives. Yes, Steam is that go to place for easily acquiring and playing all the VidjaGames and a lot of places aren't anywhere near the convenience and ease, but there ARE alternatives a lot of the time. (Admittedly, even I can only count on one hand the number of games I've gotten that used an ACTUAL installer in the past year.)
The point is, that the day that Valve turns into "EA" or "UbiSoft" is going to be sooner rather than later in my opinion, if they haven't already turned into that in the eyes of some. While I'm sure that we would all like a free and open games market where you can acquire all manner of games regardless of tastes without hassle, sadly that's not really going to be a thing... But the least they can do is not have double standards in their policies.
Same thing happens in the movie industry and I suggest anyone should look up the story of Troma Entertainment to see the effect of double standards of big vs. small.
Okay, rambling over.
I wouldn't consider them alternatives, because games that are only sold through steam can only be purchades through steam.
There are games you can only purchase for PS4 or Nintendo Switch.
See what I'm getting at?
When they're so popular that nude mods top the list(Literally number 1 for fallout 4, number 4 for skyrim for example) of pretty much every game they've made, I fail to see it mattering at that point
One of the benefits of PCs though was that they weren't a locked down platform like consoles and that they where open to competition.
Agreed, but it already exists. You aren't going to find all (Any?) of EA's games on Steam.
Another parallel in markets is what is happening to Streaming. At least in America. Everyone wants a bigger slice of pie, so what was once just all on Netflix is now split into Hulu and eventually whatever Disney does in that same regard.
Actually, what we're seeing here is a rather golden opportunity for someone to fulfill a demand that isn't really being met. Valve, no doubt, wants to appeal to the widest audience possible, which if you introduce what is considered 'Adult' content into the mix you get the Moms and the prudes coming out of the woodwork to raise a ruckus and save the children. That's a no go when you're as mainstream as it has become.
Clearly there is a market and willing consumers, otherwise this thread wouldn't exist.
This is not the content that needs to be getting removed from Steam. What needs to be getting removed from steam is the heaps of shovelware, asset flips and other trash. Even a straight up hentai game at least the dev is actually putting in effort in giving you an actual fucking game worth playing
It matters because the gaming industry has thus far mostly been allowed to handle its own laundry and has manged to somehow keep its regulation and classification outside of government hands, with relatively few exceptions. The cost of that is that the industry has to remain pretty self-aware and act on these things in a timely manner.
It's not an issue of morality for now but it's only a matter of time before several governments across the world start noticing that Steam sells lowkey porn without talking about it and decides to begin restricting access to the platform. Steam has to start dealing with the problem now because this sort of shit reaches mainstream knowledge, because then it'll be too late.
Its called Kanamara Matsuri and theres no erotic meaning behind it. The story behind it is there used to be a demon hiding in women's vaginas and biting dicks off, so people made a iron dildo to break the demons teeth and eventually it become a traditional festival about fertility and marriages. Its a tourist attract nowadays and last time I heard they also raise money for HIV research.
theres also a smaller one I forgot the name of but the thing it celebrates are pretty similar with this
rotfl all this outrage, as if you couldnt blast rope to your tumblr feed anyway
Does "removal from Steam" mean that the game won't even be able to be downloaded by people who have already bought it? If so, that's pretty shitty.
So, where will they distribute their games if/when steam takes them down?
