HuniePop and other adult games facing removal from Steam after complaints

I wouldn't be surprised if this was another variation of the Hatred stink.
Agreeing with extremists doesn't make you far from one.
So you choose to compare a dislike of porn games on a gaming platform to actual extremism?
I really don't like that way of arguing. Some people don't like seeing these games on steam, and there's nothing wrong with not liking something.
Then those people can filter them out instead of hoping they get banned by ultra-conservative nutjobs. If all they want is to not see them, then outright banning them because of it is pretty self-centered. I don't like them either but I don't give a shit if they're on Steam.
Luckily, someone just hoping for something won't actually cause any changes.
To further any cause, someone has to take action. I'm not that person. I'm just the person that thinks to myself "oh, neat."
A few people seem to needlessly worry about other peoples personal opinions on various things, as if it's going to affect their life.
In a discussion, you may have to suffer through my evidently shit opinions, but outside of these discussions my opinion means nothing - because it is just that, an opinion.
Discuss if you want to understand why someone has the opinion, but on such a non-issue like this (i.e. "i don't like these games") it's important to remember that their opinion isn't actually a problem.
What makes my blood boil is when people jump right at others throats for not agreeing with them, and try their best to discredit their completely inconsequential opinions on the subject, as if they're threatened by these other ideas.
Agree or disagree, just try to keep the discussions civil - that's the best way of making someone understand. Hostility just entrenches people further. (not directed at you)
What an interesting turn of events this has all panned out to be.
I expected Valve to eventually lightly backpedal on this though. Getting called out by a group of activists is one thing, but getting negative PR from your actual consumers is much worse to a business (unless your EA who genuinely doesn't give a fuck). If Valve ever makes a hasty decision like they have with this one and others in the past, you can expect them to always side with the consumers or at least try to find a happy medium.
Doesn't mean these games are "off the hook" just yet as the devs themselves have said, but they're at least getting a more fair judgement than just "fix your shit or you're dead."

ah yes thats how you win people over, by being truly professional and throwing the classic 'ol insult of living in parents' basement
(many of which are rape themed btw)
I have to wonder, how did they come to this conclusion? What scenes specifically have they seen? Or are they just making assumptions? Because that's a really weird assumption to make.
nekopara is pretty rapey, but it's also made by a woman so hey who am I to judge
Someone in a Twitter thread did bring up a solid point as to why these games are getting thrown under the bus while games like Witcher 3 and GTA V get a pass.
In these games, relationships and sex are the focus. In GTA V and Witcher 3, sex is either used as a reference or even a side event/activity, but are not the main bulk of the game. It's the whole argument of content/context.
The bit of "money talks" might also come into play (GTA V is one of the highest selling games of all time and Witcher 3 has sold many millions, while these VNs usually don't even crack 1 million), but I really think it's more down to the former as to why Valve is taking action in the first place.
Not saying I agree with Valve's actions (I'd prefer for Steam to be as open as possible minus the actual full on scam/asset flip games), but just providing some points. Just as the activists that are riling against these games seem crazy and out of touch, so do the ones blindly defending the games seem the same. Blindly ascribing to one side is foolish, honestly.
So wait if they're troll bots how can they be masturbating in their parents' basement?
moralist
One who bases all decisions on perceived morals, especially one who enforces them with censorship.
How is that not an insult?
These sorts of people rarely actually know what they're talking about. I've only played two games on the list of games that were an issue here, and only finished one of them at that, and never saw anything that could be remotely construed as rape. The closest thing I could think of is a scene in Kindred Spirits where one girl kisses another while she's asleep except that's painted negatively by the game and the character who did it. And that's really stretching to try and force it into the mold that moron is laying out.
I just thought the definition was somebody who teaches morality, which was I was confused. But now I know what it truly means.
ah yes, the classic "everyone that disagrees with me is a troll"
It's not even funny anymore. Valve is literally a walking joke now
Now?
Events like these shows that Valve not only doesn't communicate with their fans, but also within themselves. It's probably just one or a few dudes at Valve who received the complain and proceed to sent those emails out before asking around in the company. Valve is such a joke nowadays.
nekopara isn't rapey at all, i don't quite get where you're getting that from. the most extreme it gets is with urine. otherwise it's vanilla as fuck.
good companies never apologize for their mistakes
On twitter the word bot has lost its original meaning, it's fucked up but it actually means something akin to "sheep" now in a lot of places (mostly politics).
Sorry for being late, I can only speak for HuniePop but the patch was just an empty file in the game dir (last time I was aware) which means the content was already part of the downloaded steam release, which I guess was implied in the reddit thread by the Valve guy, Nekopara used actual patches, some Gig heavy and they didn't end up on the list Draw your own conclusions.
I don't know for the other games.
I think it was mentioned previously in this thread, but it has also been brought up before and elsewhere that payment handlers also tend to be bad about this. Paypal regularly throws fits if they're a payment option on sites that sell adult products, porn in particular. Other providers often have similar complaints, so just being able to even carry out transactions often requires banning adult content.
Last month A Kiss for the Petals was delisted from the steam store due to a malicious user.

Valve refused to say why.
Guy who got it delisted bragged about it.

Disgusting. I can't believe Valve is keeling over to moralists and homophobes.
A transgender former Valve employee sued them saying she was harassed, maybe some devs there aren't much better than the wackos who started all this.
They might not be allowed but they certainly slip through. Also, there is DEFINITELY a line that is crossed at some point when you talk about the quality of Indie games. I certainly want to watch grass grow or some shit. Some people might like these ironically, but these games are generally crap. I do see your point though, it is technically subjective.
In the case of Baldi's Basics for example, there are certainly going to be people who don't like it. The dev(s) tried to make a good game, and it was styled in that manner purposely. That's different from "This game sucks because it's supposed to, that's funny right"?
I also agree that it isn't hard to dismiss garbage, and it's sometimes even difficult to find obscure garbage games.
nekopara takes place in a world where it's acceptable to buy, raise, and fuck subhuman animal people who are incapable of independence
c'mon you gotta admit that's pretty rapey
except a major plot point in the story is when chocola and vanilla get their bells, which is their proof of ability to be independent
plus the mc is a generic nice guy who has no impure thoughts whatsoever, it's always the girls who initiate sex with him. so following your logic, it'd be him who's getting raped.
their bells just mean they're allowed to go outside unattended and perform menial labor
like the fact that it's illegal for this race of people to leave the house without being escorted by their owner doesn't make it less rapey
Like, you're right, the actual story itself isn't really like that. All this stuff is just a justification to have a bunch of anime girls going "nya", it clearly isn't meant to be read as some kind of handmaid's tale dystopia. But it'd be dishonest to say there's nothing rapey about it.
