Today, Sony announced more good news regarding their future with esports with the introduction of the SCUF Vantage. A new officially licensed controller that was built from the ground up for PlayStation 4. Now gamers seeking a performance controller can enjoy a wide range of customization options that optimize comfort and gameplay performance, delivering both precision and flexibility for a variety of playstyles.
To be clear, Sony did not make this. It's a licensed third party accessory.
The touchpad is an especially nice feature for PC, and you can map the PS4 controller's gyro to in-game functions through Steam, which makes FPS games actually playable if you map the gyro to the camera.
Hang on, does this mean you can do splatoon controls on PC games?
My brother had problems with his PS4 controllers. The controller stick eventually become a problem. He bought something like 4 controllers in less than 2 years.
As nice as this is, I don't think I'll be getting it anytime soon since the price is even more than the Xbox Elite, which seems absurd. (169.99$ wired / 199.99 wireless)
That dpad already makes it appealing. I don't know if I'm in the minority here; I love the PS4 controller, but using the dpad feels similar to rubbing my thumbs on legos.
The D-pad looks like a piece of shit Hat-switch, they want to charge $150+ and don't have individual D-pad buttons? Yeah no.
Also those analog sticks look short asf, which is something I don't like about the PS4 controller already.
Personally I prefer having both my thumbsticks down but more power to you if this setup works for your preference.
Gyro aiming has been a thing on PC for quite a while now thanks to the Steam controller.
I think your brother might be the issue here, dude.
The big thing that sucks about gyro on PC is that you don't have an orientation reset button. Resetting the orientation of the camera on the fly helps a ton in Splatoon
On my steam controller I always set it to touching the touchpad
on others I set it to a bumper
Steampad, Xbox One, and PS4, even the Switch Controller, are all excellent controllers.
I own almost every controller for every major console you can have right now because I have always liked having enough controllers to have friends over to play games with, and the PC accepts all comers.
The DS4 works natively with Steam, but not all games support it. You need "DS4 for PC" or "InputMapper" to make it work universally as an Xinput device. The track pad in the middle of the
controller acts as a mouse and it's pretty nifty.
The Xbox One standard controller has no real downsides like the DS4, but IMO, the build quality isn't quite as good as the DS4. They "Creak" more in my hands than the DS4 does, but the triggers are way better. Games like Forza Horizon are best played using Xbox one native controllers.
The Switch Controller has the same issue as the DS4, but Steam doesn't natively support it yet(IIRC). It has massive honking buttons, and the triggers feel pretty limp. Not really that great outside of Switch games, compatible with PC but not the easiest setup.
SteamPad is arguably the hardest controller to use(until you get used to it) but it's also more versatile than anything else on any list. It's incredibly adaptive, Gyro aim is very intuitive, the customization of the controls has only gotten more and more in depth and clever. The menus for the Steampad used to have very difficult to understand writing describing how certain settings effected the controller. That's been improved a bit so it's clearer.
Honestly, the DS4 and Steampad are my go to's while I'm at home with my computer.
ew scuf gross
Steam Beta supports the Switch Pro controller now, though it's still a bit buggy for some config settings
What D-pad has individual buttons other than the Switch? Besides, the best ones were always one piece.

Yep.
On DS4 Steam support - enable "PS4 Configuration Support" under controller settings in big picture mode. The PS4 controller inputs now get mapped directly to either KBM or Xinput functions through Steam. The interface for configuration is the exact same as it is for the Steam controller.
I've never got why people rag on hat switches tbh. DPads are meant to be smooth to roll over, microswitches would fuck that up super hard for individual buttons. It's not like a fighting stick where the stick itself can have a ton of freedom but still trigger microswitches.
The normal PS4 controller? ...Sort of
It works for every game, because it uses steams input shit. Any controller will work, generally.
Their build quality is ass, I've never had a controller thats fallen apart faster than a DS4
What were you doing with it? Banging it on your desk and throwing it around?
I've never had a more solidly built controllers nix anything Nintendo has ever made.
The d-pad on the ps4 controller is not 4 discrete buttons. they're all connected.
If you take the fact you can map it to keyboard inputs into consideration, it supports all PC games in general.
There are nearly no games that this wont work on.
I have had maybe 3 games not work. One was a hl1 mod, another had steaminput disabled for who knows why (now fixed), and the last just doesnt work with controllers. And this is from hundreds i have played. This includes games added to library that are non-steam games, including dolphin emulator and a ps2 emulator
Weirdly, Ultra Street Figher IV disables all input if you use any Steam controller or wrapper
IIRC early DS4s had a lot of problems, and were only rectified in a "ver 2" DS4. I recently just purchased one.
I'm still partial to the Xbox controller, though the Steam controller is also P cool.
Possibly to prevent cheating via macros maybe
I’ve had it just not work in some games through steam even in the last few weeks tbh
