Elon Musk attacks media 'lies', vows to launch journalist-rating site

This can go many ways .. but I do hope that it will work. It would prevent some of the aggressive media, printing news without fact-checking.
I think that the fact that Elon is the one at the head provides a massive conflict of interest, but... good, to be honest. Current media is fucking garbage.
Credibility and what is true shouldn't be decided by vote. Not everyone is qualified to chime in on the credibility of the reporting of a story as it happens (which seems to me to be his focus, specific reporting). While I want to believe he does this out of a conviction in the usefulness of the wisdom of the crowd, I can't help but see his clear personal interests in having such a platform.
I mean, this kind of thing already happens, and indeed as Trebgarta has said, leads to the favoring of alternative sources by certain groups, but such a platform would just make it easier for everyone. This is a wet dream for anyone trying to run a psy-op job in the vein of what the Russians have done.
This data might be useful for research in the field of sociology, however, but I'm not sure that would be worth the risks stated above.
Literally nothing in my power can make media better. As a matter of fact, hitting the media is the only thing that anybody can do to make it better, since that's market forces at play.
Why the hell should we trust something that has proven itself to be un-trustable?
It definitely shouldn't be decided by vote, but it not being decided by vote is far different from advocating not criticizing news corporations for inaccuracies or misrepresentations at all.
But it seems to me his site isn't about criticizing in words every single article/journalist/publication source, which would be great, but about rating (with just a score) what is credible and non-credible. This could definitely lead to a mob mentality as psychologically people generally trust a large amount of positive or negative votes on a thing (as I'm sure personal experience on these very forums can easily attest to).
So if his tweets are anything to go by, this would not be a platform for criticism. It would be like rating a post dumb or winner on Facepunch. I certainly hope he misrepresented his own idea, or that he's joking.

Looks like he's on a breaking point.
Meh. It might work for the most general articles but once you set foot in political or controversial articles it becomes pretty biased.
wow thats a top mind at work there fuck me
You're kidding yourself if you don't think that clickbaity and agenda-driven news is a big problem with modern media outlets, but I dont know how effective this will be.
I can think of plenty of problems just off the top of my head.
But I'll wait and see how it develops before making any judgement.
and this is why you don't sleep under your desk at a car factory. Go home Elon, get some sleep. the bill gates 24-7-365 train doesn't work, never did, and you're building cars not software
lol, he's making himself look like a joke with this assblasted meltdown
Here comes the downfall of his career. Or maybe he forgot his medication.
Honestly I don't blame him. He's been constantly attacked by the media, hell, just yesterday:

It can't feel good to be constantly attacked ragged on and lied (read: truth super stretched) nonstop.
I also think this is basically reddit but for news sites which uh I think reddit has a lot of problems

Fun fact: the website he's talking about, the original founder was found murdered with his head detached from his body. so don't always be so critical of journalists, they don't have it that easy.
I can understand people's concerns with this, but doesn't Facepunch itself already rely on a site like that to determine trustworthiness? Media Bias/Fact Check.
Sorry, but that name sounds like utter garbage
Well, good to see that RDJ's Tony Stark character got its big-headedness from Musk, too.
I really hate how it seems like no one can express distrust in the media these days without accusations of being like Trump. Just because his mistrust of the media is often misguided and used as a poorly disguised method of discrediting anyone who criticizes him doesn't mean everyone who distrusts the media is one in the same.
This. Even though I think that letting the public vote on the truth is a terrible idea, at least he's not saying "XYZ news source said thing about tesla. WRONG! They go on the wall of shame!".
