Says the woman who thinks that private corporations are going to hurl chunks of the moon into the Earth
While she is an idiot with about 95% of this tweet, kinetic bombardment is a thing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinetic_bombardment
Have you noticed how the Wikipedia page uses terms like 'hypothetical' and 'theory' and notes 0 actually real instances?
It doesn’t exist and she is insane to think it does but it’s a future weapon that could easily exist as an answer to nukes
I don't deny that it might be plausible, but she's talking about a conspiracy here.
Problem is, you only get as much energy out of it as you put into it. You can't just "drop" stuff from the moon and expect it to do anything. You need MASSIVE equipment to bost it to the speeds necessary, rockets larger than anything we've ever built - and that equipment in itself has to be transported to the moon first, which would reuire even larger equipment.
The obvious thing happened. https://puu.sh/AtMn5/615784d5d5.png
My brain bluescreened trying to process this. I'm not kidding. I felt my mind going blank for 4 seconds while reading this.
Even if he were right who cares. Someone died and you should respect that
And if anyone celebrated this persons death, people who agree with them would be saying that you shouldn't be celebrating their death.
A roughly telephone pole sized cylinder of tungsten is enough to get to nuclear yield sizes, which is in scope of current spacex rockets, and it's basically impossible to shoot down compared to an ICBM. But yes, I understand that the nutcase is talking about conspiracy theories, all I was saying is that it was a thing, ya'll looked way too much into that. Maybe because it would be a bad fucking idea to pseudo nuke things in the "wars" the major powers are in currently? Hell I could even be a pedant and call the deorbiting of space junk near point nemo, such as the tiangong-1 space station field test of the accuracy you can get even with space junk.
Tungsten doesn't just explode, you need to accelerate it to absurd speeds. It won't just get to these speeds by itself, hence the massive equipment.
The USAF recommended pole size is light enough(Around 8t) to be launched by the falcon heavy into LEO, then it just needs to be dragged back into a quickly decaying orbit that will hit the target, or if you wanna go absolutely nutcase levels, use whatever heavier rocket they'll make next and put it in a molniya orbit.
Don't worry Brianna Wu No one will laugh at you when you die because no one will care enough to notice.
I think you fail to understand the fact that a falling pole won't have the energy to do jack shit. You need to accelerate it. Earlier you mentioned a tungsten pole, which would be around 385 tons if it was a cylinder of 0.5m diameter and 12m height. Even an object of this weight would have to be accelerated to 150 KM/s to have the energy of a 1 megaton nuclear bomb. Of course, a lot of this energy would dissipate in the atmosphere during re-entry. If we go with your current pole, which is now a measly 8 tons, you'd have to accelerate it to 1 thousand KM/s. Do you understand how much energy is required to accelerate things up to these speeds? Let's do a calculation. Say our rocket uses a Merlin 1C vacuum engine with an ISP of 311s (fuel efficiency, basically), and our rocket weighs a measly 5 tons + the 8 ton rod when dry (13 ton total) How many tons fuel do you think would be required to accelerate this rocket with the 8-ton projectile up to the required speed of 1K KM/s? (Please, take a guess)
It's amazing how some of the lunatics on Twitter call him transphobic/misogynist even though this exists.
If there was any justice in this world these people would be cursed to step on an EU power plug every hour for the rest of their lives.
The shit you talking about 385 tonnes, with the pole, to quote someone who has already done the math: ".3 meters in diameter and 6.1 meters long. That would have a volume of .43 cubic meters. Tungsten has a specific gravity of 19.25, thus the rod would have a mass of 8,277 kilograms.", and again, the Falcon Heavy can carry loads up to 8 tonnes to LEO, which is about 7.8 km/s, which is over twice that of what the USAF wanted to the specified rod to go at(Mach 10). Even at mach 10, it impacting would release a shockwave equaling an 11.5mt nuke, which is almost FOUR times the amount of explosives used in ww2 combined(Including both hiroshima and nagasaki)
Oh I messed up and read the value for the surface area, not volume. Whoops! (it did sound wrong to me too) Anyways, check this: ENERGY CALCULATOR We have an 8 metric ton projectile. We want it to achieve the energy energy of 1 megatons TNT. This calculator spits out a velocity of ~1000 KM/s.
They call him transphobic because they aren't a true 'trans ally', they're only 'pro-lgbt' in name and title alone for the sake of getting away with being bullies and harassers.
I mean fuck even Laura K highlighted his standing up against transphobia despite their falling out. https://twitter.com/LaurakBuzz/status/999907461187354625
From LEO, a speed of the needed mach 10(3430 m/s) at impact as per USAF is definitely possible for a projectile like this, and either that internet calculator is wrong or the USAF is wrong on an astronomical scale about the impact energy. But indeed, let's leave it here, neither the time nor the place for it.
UK power plug. Has an extra pin.
What does any of this conversation have to do with TotalBiscuit's passing?
https://twitter.com/Orgonongirl/status/1000294318106660864 Why am I doing this to myself.
Can we stop posting fuckwit twitter posts here please
its one thing to expose someone who's semi-famous and can actually be held accountable for what they said, but i really couldn't give less of a fuck about some nobody with nothing better to do then to curse a dead man's family
Right now I'm noting down everyone I come across. Screening will come later, because some of these people legitimately have a history of such interactions and I may end up seeing them again over similar bullshit. Keeping them in a list is honestly better for my sanity than continuously rediscovering their fucking insanity.
thats nice and all but unless its someone who can be held accountable there is absolutely nothing good that can come out of posting them here. the person who discovered the post can add them to the list themselves.
I could give less of a shit about Gamergate and genuinely felt a lot of people involved were pretty shitty, but TotalBiscuit never struck me as one of them. Ive tried reading the 'proof' of his awful misogynistic, transphobic views or whatever and none of it was even coming close to making me dislike him. All that aside, I think the first time I ever watched TotalBiscuit was when he played Nightmare on Elm Street: Blood Daze with Lowtax which was awesome. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6NvGRdkqX8
