• Totalbiscuit Has Passed Away

The gamergate hate comes from both ways. Anti-SJWs wanted to push him out of gamergate for not radicalizing once they started becoming the dominant voices in late 2014, and for the most part have wanted him to disappear ever since. Especially after the trap thing.
They brought this up live during the OverwatchLeague stream tonight https://clips.twitch.tv/AlertVainHerdShazBotstix
Definitely sad to see someone who contributed a good about towards the gaming industry pass. He's paved the way for many other great game critics as an amazing influence, and he will be dearly missed. Yeah, he's said some stupid things before and has been a royal cunt at times in his past, but I mean, who in here hasn't? Who hasn't told someone something similar to "get cancer and die" or call something "cancerous?" Who hasn't been a total dick to someone because you felt it was justified in that moment? What matters not are the little details and flubs of someone's life, but the impact they provided to us and left with us. There's not a doubt in my mind that John left an overall positive influence in his wake, whether that be on his family, his friends, his fans, or even the entire gaming industry. The only thing you achieve by poking fun at this whole situation is showing just how unsympathetic and non relateable you are as a person.
Man, you can see dude start to tear up a bit as he was talking. Just all the more impact on realizing what a legend we've lost today.
I've been watching old videos all night and having a cold one. Reading the tweets from all his friends has been painful. There have definitely been some tears. He was an incredible man and the industry has suffered a tremendous lost
He vocally attacked the trump base after the election, voicing his hatred for them directly, to quote "You voted for hate. Don't be surprised when you get a little bit of hate back" He was already dealing with cancer at that point and trump's promises to remove healthcare obviously aren't going to be well received by anyone in his situation. It's kind of silly to assert everyone who voted for trump is a bigot especially since we're in an age where media marketing and ignorance dominate politics, it's a bigoted view itself, but considering the situation you have to give him a lot of slack.
John was a brilliant man. His mindfulness around not just games but the people who play and make them is truly inspirational. I can only strive to have a resolve as sound as his was. Excellent person, shame to see him in pain and pass this way. At least now he is no longer suffering. Rest in piece TotalBiscuit.
Every other Youtube/Twitch personality I watch has mentioned his passing in some way, most of them knew him personally. I've been watching the dude for years, been aware of the fact he's done collabs with them, and it's still weird to realise how much of an impact he's had on most of the active YT/Twitch people I follow. Gonna miss him, better go watch the Terraria series.

I will just add my praise of the man to everyone else in here, so that it will be known that a LOT of people cared about TB and his content: Although I didn't always agree with TB on various issues, I always respected and admired his complete devotion to the gaming consumer and his attempts at bringing obscure indie games out in the spotlight. Many games I have in my library is thanks to this man. And the fact he kept going for as long as possible, despite his cancer, should be a inspiration to all of us, no matter what you think of him. No matter how you feel about him, it is clear that we have lost someone importatn in the video game industry; someone who took the side of the consumer and helped certain developers get the attention they deserved. He will always be remembered for this, and hopefully he will be an example for other content creators out there. RIP TB. Thanks for the content.
That's terrible. I really hope people learn from this and realize that some temporary embarrassment at the doctors is hugely preferable to letting your problems rot and blow out of control. Hearing him grow weaker and weaker from the illness was harrowing.
Made fun of them in public, as he did to most people whom could not take a joke.
Tbf, alt-right people deserve to be made fun of in public anyway.
Mad respect to even his enemies that at least feel sympathy. Heck, Keemstar did say some nasty things in the past, but he's not following through with it and being somewhat sensible on the matter.
Yeah, but it's also not just the alt-right either. The left is also after his corpse to spit on it because of his support towards everyone's favorite topic, GamerGate... Why can't people just understand that sometimes people have differing opinions to them, and as long as they aren't being harmful with them, that's ok? This applies to both sides. You may not agree with his opinions and his stances, and that's fine, but all you're doing by trying to shit on him after he's dead and has done essentially no harm is just make yourself look like a massive asshole. All you do is make yourself look like the supposed "assholes" that you're upset that he agrees with.
I can't say I agreed with him on everything, but who can say that about anyone? He was an amazing games critic, but more importantly he was a titan of consumer advocacy. Nobody in the industry has so fiercely and consistently advocated for consumer rights than TB did. He always put his money where his mouth was, was always amazingly transparent about what content was paid promotions, and always made sure anyone he partnered with was ethical, consumer friendly, and relevant to his fanbase. He didn't shill for shitty mobile f2p games with predatory business models, and always called bullshit like that out when he saw it. Honestly I can't say enough in his praise. Sure he said some stupid shit on Twitter, but I think he often tried to make amends, and he realized when he had stepped out of line. TB was a titan of games journalism. He will be sorely missed. RIP.
The worst part about the GG thing is that his "support" for it is completely made up just so they have a reason to attack him. The few times he even mentioned Gamergate were to say "Stop trying to recruit me as your leader, I don't need to be part of a hashtag movement to push for ethics and neither do you", and to correct people like James Portnow and others spreading misinformation and labelling him as a GG leader. It's disgusting.
Hell, that's worthy of bringing up on its own. TB could be one of the few people you could actually call a games journalist, and not just some talking head on a gaming news site parroting companies' PR spiels.
oh god now keemstar is actually going to report it
Never had any real relation to his videos, but I knew he was a big name in the community. But THIS big? I had no idea, it's amazing to see. I wish I had experienced more of his content while he was alive and well. It's a sad day for the community, and all my condolences to his family and friends foremost, but also his fans.
Most of those people are probably NeoGAF/ResetEra or GamerGhazi regulars that have been repeatedly told they should hate his guts by mods that ban dissenting opinions. I doubt the other "anti" hotspots produced many people who were obsessed like that because they didn't put in the time or the effort to encourage that kind of lasting obsession. A lot of anti-SJWs already disliked the guy years before they were even radicalized so I wouldn't call the two groups equivalent.
The ways I see it is that if both sides hate you about equally, you've done a good job staying neutral.
The media knew exactly what they were doing. The entire point of smearing gamergate was to deflect the consumer oriented criticisms gamergate raised, and because TB was making the same criticisms they needed to include him in the group they were smearing.
I only hope he got to spend as much time with his family as possible.
On the co-optional podcast this week Jesse was talking about TotalBiscuit being back on next week. Bummer. It won't be the same without him on it, but I hope they continue with it.
I can't imagine a youtube without totalbiscuit in it. He was an amazing man, a fantastic content creator, and filled up a lot of otherwise lonely hours in a lot of lives with his voice. I want to give the mailbox series another listen now.
I may have not been crying on the outside but I have been on the inside. TotalBiscuit was and still is an absolute legend for everything that he's contributed to gaming commentary, reviews, the community, and everything else. Rest in peace bro. Your journey in life will always be remembered.
This is the first time some one dying has actually shocked me. Can't believe he's gone.
I always have problems sleeping on the nights of events like this. My mind just can't stop racing. Thinking of an internet without the cynical brit? A Youtube without Totalbiscuit? It just isn't fair. PC Gaming isn't going to be the same for a long time.
I never really watched Totalbiscuit's videos, but just seeing just how many people are getting affected by this hits hard. He meant a lot to people, and seeing him go out like this is a real loss.
