• Bethesda teasing a new Fallout?

Honestly I want that if only for the fact that it would make a New Vegas remake in 2020 a vague possibility.
So is it ever gonna actually start?
The gameplay was fine at the time though. It's the writing that was horrible. You were either a walking god or the devil, practically no replayability other than "save everyone" or "kill everyone".
please be a bait and switch. I don't want another fallout after the bleh that was the 4th major entry.
https://twitter.com/ErikToddDellums/status/1001479797233606656 Also it's not Obsidian https://twitter.com/Obsidian/status/1001495817184661504
IIRC Erik TD also was doing tweets about FO4 before it was announced, and he wasn't in it.
I'm ok with that. everyone who did New Vegas either left or got laid off. #Notmyobsidian.
Arkane Fallout spinoff pls
but at the same time, pete hines really likes avelone, so it's probably likely that he'd try to get avelone on another fallout, or maybe even an elder scrolls game
nah people might cry but they will buy it Did we forgot about horse armor that started DLC model?
It's Fallout 3: Special Edition. https://i.imgur.com/xcVWo7r.jpg
I'm just going to be up front and say to not expect a good Fallout ever again. With the way Bethesda pressed FO4 through the streamline noodle maker to create a vapid, 5cent ramen cup of a game. Whatever that was there from the original Tabletop inspired game is dead and the changes they made to a broader audience who had never played the previous games, who for some reason can't stomach playing the previous games, have completely destroyed the impact and importance on many events that have happened in the Franchise's history. Fallout is dead.
Josh Sawyer played a bigger role in the making of New Vegas than what Avallone. Not only did Sawyer direct the game and write a bunch of music for it but he is also responsible for a lot of the stuff in the cancelled Interplay Fallout 3, most of which made it back into New Vegas in some form or other. Yes, Avallone wrote a bunch of stuff for New Vegas and it's pretty sad that he is gone from Obsidian but he isn't the mastermind behind New Vegas that people tend to portray him as.
I wouldn't put it past them at this point to just remake their older games even though Fallout 3 is basically just 4 but with shit gameplay, they keep remaking their games and people just keep buying them, even if it was a 64 Bit version of Fallout 3, which it probably would be, it still wouldn't be worth it.
He did direct all of the New Vegas DLC though and that was one of the highlights of that game so...
As opposed to another port or remaster?
People take big shits on fallout 3 but i quite like it. It had more narrative impact than fallout 4 for me that's for fucking sure.
it's as if lessons can't be learnt and changes can't be reverted to make things better again. they've already acknowledged the fact that maybe having a voiced protagonist wasn't such a good idea in the end i guarantee you fallout 4 would be almost 100% more tolerable if it had better writing - which it actually did in far harbor. streamlining game mechanics isn't always a bad thing. gameplay-wise, fallout 4 was pretty fun. where it really failed is with the writing.
It failed on a lot of different levels. Gameplay was improved over FO3, and NV and in very meaningful ways. However, the RPG elements of the game felt tacked on, ham fisted, simplistic, and out of place very quickly in my opinion. Yeah, it allowed for a "carte blanche" approach to the game, with which such a long game is an appreciated approach because who really wants to play Fo4 multiple times on multiple different playthroughs. But that has it's drawbacks as the feeling of being a multi-tool in a game, can often feel less appealing than being a specifically designed gameplay "style" for lack of a better word. It's not like they can't learn from their mistakes, but they haven't made things any more complicated since Morrowind. Every game since Morrowind has been "How can we reduce the systems and streamline the design?" and that's not by neccessity a bad thing, but I do think, in the context of TES or Fallout games, it does hurt the quality of the projects.
I consider Josh Sawyer to be the more important creative force at Obsidian personally. I'm sure with him at the helm they could make a great fallout game still.
Fallout 4's gameplay was not 'fun'. The shooting mechanics were finally updated to be inline with industry standards. That's not worthy of praise or a medal, that's worthy of a 'Congratulations, you tried'. But that's just one part of it, the dungeons were crappily designed Skyrim circles with zero story telling and usually made now internal sense. You collected loot and garbage, to then later take part in a simplified and quite honestly unfulfilling settlement system. The gameplay loop for FO4 is terrible. Yes, the gunplay and combat is more fun, but the quests, writing, RPG mechanics, world building, world interactivity were lined up in front of a firing squad. Oh and the weapon customization system had zero downsides except for recoil half the time, it wasn't like ammo types and modifications in New Vegas that complimented certain builds and had downsides for others.
If it is Fallout 3: Special Edition, which seems likely at this point, they would need to put a lot more work in to make it look not like complete garbage. I believe Skyrim SE still used the same textures and models and just updated the lighting/rendering, but Fallout 3 came out 10 years ago and looks like greenish-brown mud. It's been a while, but I don't remember anyone saying that Fallout 3 looked good even when it came out in 2008.
Bethesda has a smaller team for making DLC I believe, if only the writers there could write for the main game.
Aaaaand they're offline. Good reveal boys, lets go home.
SAVED It's back
The thing about Bethesda's Rpgs these days, is that they are designed more and more for the couch-dudes with their sideways baseball-caps, gangster-rap music and suburban-housewife moms who willingly refill their sippycups. People who like their rpgs to be firm and consequential only make up for so much of the market. So we have to wear the rest of the audience like a chain around our ankles.
Did they run out of bandwidth or something? Most unstable bitch on the site right now
endless loading on this end
Other than Chris Avellone do you have a source for this?
